Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have put forth legislation that would tighten Pennsylvania's gun laws. Three state representatives, two Democrats and a Republican, wrote House Bill 1400, which was introduced earlier in May. The bill would require background checks for all firearm sales with the exception of certain gun transfers. “This is not about stepping on anyone’s Second Amendment right, this is strictly about common sense,” said Rep. Jamie Santora, R-Delaware, during a press conference.

In an interview from the Spokane County Jail Saturday, Nicholas McRae explained why he ran from police after they tried to pull him over, and why he was so heavily armed. "I thought I might have been able to get away and get rid of the gun," said McRae speaking exclusively to KHQ. McRae says he got the AK-47 off the streets right here in Spokane and police say he was pointing it out of the window of his Chrysler 300. That's when the police performed a PIT maneuver to disable McRae's car. It took several officers to take McRae into custody. According to police he said he wanted to "clean up the streets" but McRae is denying that he said that. |

In an effort to commemorate “National Gun Violence Awareness Day,” Kim Kardashian inadvertently made the nation aware of something else: she enjoys armed security while evidently advocating for stricter gun control laws that affect average citizens. “After what happened to me in Paris, I know how important it is to be safe and to have armed security,” she said in an essay quoted by Elle.com. “All of my security team is armed, but they also support stricter gun control laws and believe that we should restrict access to firearms for people with mental illness, anyone previously convicted of a misdemeanor, those who have been subject to a temporary restraining order and those at a higher risk of committing gun violence.”

Q. Does the Bible have anything to say about our Second Amendment rights, which we’re hearing so much about in the current political climate? Christine Stawarz, Prince George, Va.
A. The Second Amendment was drafted by James Madison in 1789. It and the other nine amendments, forming what we call the Bill of Rights, were ratified and added to our Constitution in 1791. They are understood to state the inherent rights of every citizen. |

A bill making it legal for most people to carry concealed handguns without a permit took a crucial step closer to becoming law Wednesday. Felzkowski said school districts and private organizations could still prohibit firearms on their property and within their buildings. Craig and Felzkowski told the committee before a packed hearing expected to last hours that the legislation strengthens Wisconsin residents' constitutional right to keep firearms especially for self-defense. "I didn't like the fact that years ago we didn't have concealed carry".

Michigan residents could soon be able to carry concealed pistols without a license.
House bills look to remove the need for a concealed pistol permit. Manton Republican state Rep. Michele Hoitenga says she sees too many law-abiding citizens getting in trouble by not having their license.
Tom Lambert is president of Michigan Open Carry Inc. He says the legislation doesn't change any existing laws and only defines where people could conceal carry without a permit.
Blaine Koops is executive director for the Michigan Sheriff's Association. He opposes the legislation because he has concerns about public and officer safety. He says he is willing to work with lawmakers on changes.

Ike Singleton lives in Joliet, but on Saturday he made the 30-mile trek to south suburban Dolton with two shotguns. He left with $200. “It wasn’t really for the money, I just wanted them out,” Singleton said. The 68-year-old was tired of seeing the shotguns sitting in his room at home, and was worried his grandchildren might get ahold of them. They belonged to his father, and maybe his grandfather before that.

There was never a time when I didn’t love guns. As tools of force projection, it was impossible to miss the fact that they provided a kind of punctuation that guaranteed you were heard. This I knew at the age of 4. Courtesy of George Reeves, the guy who played Superman on a TV show I watched religiously. Reeves as Superman was immune to the charm of guns, but he was SUPERman.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is expected to sign a bill making it tougher to prosecute people who claim they commit violence in self-defense, creating an opportunity for wrongdoers to unfairly take advantage of “stand your ground” defense laws. The bill would set a high hurdle for prosecutors, making them prove a negative that the assailant wasn’t standing his ground. In the tumble-down effect that Republican-controlled states have on each other, there’s little doubt that similar legislation will surface in Missouri. |

Peace Officers at SUNY Adirondack will be armed with stun guns following a unanimous vote of the campus Board of Trustees late last month. The trustees were meeting in open session, but went into executive session to discuss personnel issues. An issue such as whether or not to arm campus officers would not normally be covered under the state’s open meeting laws. The resolution was made during open session, after the executive session ended and the vote was unanimous. Initially, the board had considered arming officers with guns.

When he was 14, Michael Gastley had a friend who kept the parts of his shotgun in a box. His friend had taken apart the gun for maintenance, and couldn’t seem to put it back together. “I asked him what he wanted for it, and he told me if I could get it to work I could have it,” he said. That was the first shotgun Gastley of Somerset fixed, and afterward started fixing guns as a hobby. |

May 2017 shattered the gun purchase background check records set under Barack Obama during May 2015 and 2016. Breitbart News reported that May 2015 set what was then an all-time record for background checks for the month of May and began a 19-month streak in which each month surpassed background check records. In other words, May 2015 witnessed more background checks than any May in history, then June 2015 witnessed more background checks than any June, and more in July than any July, and so on. The streak continued through November 2016. |

As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight. And it is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. — Justice William O. Douglas, US Supreme Court (1939-75) |
