Call the irony police! Father Michael Pfleger, the radical left-wing priest, friend of Jeremiah Wright, and mainstay of the hard-left community in Chicago that bequeathed the political rise of Barack Obama to America, has a hypocrisy problem. Father Pfleger, you see, is a violent anti-gun advocate. When I use the term "violent," I mean it. In 2007, he was rebuked by his bishop (who happened to be a cardinal – Cardinal George of the Chicago Archdiocese) for publicly threatening to "snuff out" a gun store-owner. That's right: bring "peace" by snuffing out opponents. The peace of the dead, I guess. |

Several people have anonymously expressed concerns with an event that took place Friday, May 25, the last day of school, at East Elementary School in Athens. Principal Andrea Bobo walked the school hallways spraying kids and teachers with water guns in what she has said was a yearly end-of-school-year gag.
“On the last day of school I did squirt water at students and staff members,” Bobo wrote in an email Tuesday. “This is something I’ve done as a building principal on the last day of school for several years and was always a greatly anticipated event.” |

America has become habituated to stories of teenagers too young to purchase a firearm who commit mass shootings with guns belonging to family members. Recent gun violence in Santa Fe, Tex., and Noblesville, Ind., are only the latest in a long line of attacks committed by teens with other people’s weapons. One common suggestion after mass shootings is that the best way to prevent such incidents would be to lock guns and ammunition away when not in use, so the weapons stay out of the hands of the wrong people. |

California has a firearm suicide problem. Nearly 1,600 residents killed themselves with guns in 2016, and the gun suicide rate is rising at both the state and national levels. Suicide is the most common type of gun violence in the U.S. — on average more than 60 deaths a day, more than were killed in Las Vegas, the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Six out of ten gun deaths are suicides, and firearms account for about half of all suicides. |
