"Not to be outdone by the Los Angeles Police Department (that routinely disposes of humans in the same fashion), our officers ran into a tense situation with 6 cows belonging to Albert Silva of Santa Maria, which - to put it mildly - didn't respond to officers' demands. Hence, they were executed, or as we say "taken down"."

"The New Mexico Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled the state's concealed-handgun law unconstitutional."

--The part which they took exception to, was the clause allowing cities and counties to locally prohibit concealed carry. No biggie. It's legal to carry in your car; it's legal to carry unloaded; and if you flout the law it's only a petty misdemenor.

"Los Angeles ... has had 25 children killed and a rate of 2.7 per 100,000. Philadelphia and Phoenix had rates of 1.7. The rates for the other other cities were 1.5 for Chicago, 1.1 for San Diego, 0.7 for Dallas, and 0.6 for San Antonio, Texas"

"Key numbers are flat-out wrong. Data that should have been carefully collected and made reproducible for verification were neither, and when spot-checked against original documents, prove incorrect. The book's credibility is fatally undermined. Should you feel embarrassed? Why? Garry Wills, who reviewed Michael Bellesiles's "Arming America" for the Times book section on September 10, 2000, doesn't seem at all embarrassed. He simply declines to comment."

"Rendell responded that "The NRA ads are like the Casey ads. They don't tell the truth. There is nothing that I want to do to take a gun away from a hunter or a law-abiding citizen." Gun-control organizations campaigning for Rendell said that he only wanted "sensible" gun laws."

"Yet, because I have talked with Rendell during less guarded moments, when he was not focused on winning votes for governor, I know that Casey and DeWeese were telling the truth about Rendell's views on guns."

"The agricultural lands surrounding Buckland are where combines often outnumber cars and where kids feel safe riding their bikes down country roads. "the program was based on the oft-repeated fallacy that guns, and not criminals, commit crimes ... the law-abiding citizens who sold their guns were under the mistaken assumption that they would profit from the sale."

"they paid for their small profit in two ways. At some level they were taxed for the program. But even worse, they found themselves with slightly less freedom than before: the program represented one more lurch forward in big government’s bid for control."

"Congress can take a step toward safety by closing the gun-show loophole on gun purchases."

"People may now buy guns at gun shows without being subjected to a background check. The 1994 Brady Law required licensed gun sellers to conduct such checks, but it made no similar requirement for unlicensed sellers at gun shows. The loophole has always been a threat to safety, but the war on terrorism should certainly heighten attention to the law's shortcomings." -- Opinion of The Tennessean

"If you've been following the news, you've probably heard about the scandal of Emory professor Michael Bellesiles and his book, "Arming America." In 2000, Mr. Bellesiles's tome caused a firestorm, purporting as it did to show that few early Americans actually owned guns--thus calling into question whether the Second Amendment was designed to protect individual gun rights."

To direct your attention and as a reminder to encourage my fellow Americans to take a pause each day to address prayerfully (if applicable) and to take some sort of action to influence the mechanics of a situation that demands attention...

"Even if Britain, the US and the other western powers had no prior involvement in this conflict, our moral duty to help develop an effective international response would be unquestionable. But we are up to our necks in it. The subcontinent's dispute is our dispute, and to turn away from it could constitute the greatest collective dereliction since the failure of both the German people and the allied powers to intervene in the Holocaust." -- George Monbiot

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. — JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821)
