Shotguns are the most versatile gun you can purchase. They come in various styles, barrel lengths, ammo options, and gauges. Choosing a shotgun gets confusing to new gun enthusiasts with so many options.
We're here to help make that decision easier when purchasing a 10 gauge vs 12 gauge. The 12 gauge shotgun is the most popular in the US. In contrast, the 10 gauge shotgun is popular within a small niche of hunters. Ultimately, the decision boils down to your plan to use it and your price range. |

As a perpetual student of this craft, I often consider what defensive pistol skills are, indeed, necessary, for the armed citizen to prevail in the face of most violent encounters. The reality remains that those of us who think about this stuff, teach it, write about it, and often train in it, are enthusiasts who quickly lose perspective on what the average concealed carrier thinks regarding the subject.

UPDATED – Seventy-eight years after thousands of Americans landed on the beaches at Normandy, or parachuted in darkness behind enemy lines to defend their country and its constitution, the Texas Tribune is reporting how some “self-declared gun enthusiasts” in Texas are “supporting congressional action to increase gun restrictions in response to the mass shooting in Uvalde.”

Late last week, the House Judiciary Committee rammed through an extreme package of gun control measures on a party-line vote. If this terrible legislation becomes law, tens of millions of law-abiding gun owners would be turned into felons and their lawfully-acquired property would be subject to confiscation by federal agents. Nancy Pelosi plans to bring this to the U.S. House floor for a vote this week. The bill, H.R. 7910, which was introduced and heard in committee in a matter of only three days, is a conglomeration of numerous other gun control bills.

Senator Joe Morrissey (D-16) announced that the first piece of legislation he will file for next year’s session will be an “assault weapons” ban bill, to ban many commonly-owned rifles, shotguns, and handguns that law-abiding citizens use for self-defense and sport. Back in 2020, anti-gun extremists already tried and failed to pass such a comprehensive ban when they held majorities in both chambers of the General Assembly. It was considered too extreme by some in that majority, and it was ultimately defeated by a bipartisan vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Joe Biden histrionically pleaded with Americans, "For God's sake, do something!" after the latest school shooting. Democrats are in power. Why don't they do something? They don't need to ask Republicans when they can get something done on their own, without the GOP's imprimatur.

As the House moves to vote on a far more controversial gun ban proposal than the Senate is considering, two voices on the outer edges of the issue clash over the heated politics at the debate's center. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) challenged gun control advocate David Hogg to meet to discuss “common sense solutions” to recent school shootings such as the February 2018 shooting at Hogg’s Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, that pushed him into gun advocacy.

The question seems to come to mind naturally, at least to me — “But why?” With the classic AR-style and design seeming to be the benchmark of a defensive rifle today, why try to gain market share with a design apparently at odds with what’s popular with shooters? I’ve spent about 45 years shooting AR-style rifles so my muscle memory is deeply rooted. I also have just a modest amount of experience shooting bullpup style rifles, so I think I might be just the right guy to review this new one from Springfield.

In the months preceding the planned D-Day landings in June 1944, Allied reconnaissance aircraft flew many missions over the Normandy coastline to map out German defensive positions. Of the various fortifications, one stood out to U.S. planners as an obstacle for the invasion. The Germans had established an artillery battery on top of the bluffs of Pointe du Hoc.

Legislators in New Jersey introduced a bill last month that would change the state’s regulations for hunting on private land. Assembly Bill 3732 calls for an expanded safety buffer that would prohibit hunters from nocking an arrow or carrying a loaded weapon within 450 feet of any occupied building in the state. A3732 would also require private landowners in the state to notify neighboring landowners before they could be allowed to hunt on their own land.
