"KCRA Television reports that concealed carry permits are up dramatically in Sacramento, California. According to reporter Danielle Leigh, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office has approved more concealed carry permits this year than in the history of the department. While neither she nor the spokesman for the Sheriff's Office mention it, this is directly attributable to the agreement reached by the Second Amendment Foundation and the CalGuns Foundation with the Sheriff's Department where 'self-defense' is now recognized as showing 'good cause'." ... |

... "5- NICS Background Checks Expensive, But At Least They're Flawed"
"The lamestream media told you:"
"Nothing."
"The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:"
"Ph.D. researcher John Lott, author of More Guns Less Crime, http://www.gunlaws.com/books4.htm has examined NICS and found that it is not what it's cracked up to be. Based on his report:"
"'NICS accidentally flags many law-abiding people, stopping those who simply have the same name as a prohibited individual from buying a gun. A similar problem occurred five times for the late Senator Ted Kennedy when he was placed on a no-fly list. An initial denial does not mean an individual is actually disqualified from owning a gun.'" ... |

"It's been a while since TTAG attempted to dispel fears about the U.N. Small Arms Treaty. As we've said on numerous occasions ... the U.N. Small Arms Treaty is about regulating inter-governmental sales of small arms; to get the rest of the world to sign up to the same controls that the United States uses currently ... It's a shame the U.N. is about as transparent a granite wall; the lack of a draft accord has allowed the GG-RAN (Gun Grabbing Red Alert Network) to run wild with rumors of U.N. storm troopers showing up at American gun owners' doors to prize weapons from their [soon-to-be] cold, dead hands. A Forbes article entitled U.N. Agreement Should Have All Gun Owners Up in Arms has reignited these rumors . . . |

"It may not come as surprising news to many of you that the United Nations doesn’t approve of our Second Amendment. Not one bit. And they very much hope to do something about it with help from some powerful American friends. Under the guise of a proposed global “Small Arms Treaty” premised to fight “terrorism”, “insurgency” and “international crime syndicates” you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted – our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms." ... -------

"RF and I had big plans: we were each going to get a Marlin .357 Magnum lever-action carbine and trick it out in dramatically different ways. He was going to build a 21st-Century Cowboy Assault Rifle: 10 quick and handy rounds of manually operated California-legal thunder, all wrapped in a weatherproof polymer stock and sporting the latest in tactical lights, lasers and red-dot optics. As I opined before, John Wayne might have carried RF’s project gun into movie stardom if 'The Searchers' had been written by Tom Clancy and directed by Tony Scott . . ." ... |

"The average police officer’s firearm handling, safety and shooting skills are poor. Sadly, the news carries all the examples of this you’d ever want to read about. But you can almost understand it, given the infrequency with which the average cop has to use his weapon. Not that it’s an excuse. If you’re entrusted to protect the public and given a firearm as one of your tools for the job, you damned well ought to know how to use it as effectively and safely as possible. So when looking at the military, I would expect – as someone who’s never been there – that the extensive drills and training would result in a significantly more stringent culture of firearms safety. It turns out I’d be sorely mistaken…" ... |
