... “'It is lamentable that the government seems to argue that the fabricated story of Shipley’s firearm killing a Mexican military officer was a fair inference from the evidence,' the brief explained. 'Again, after the jury verdict and before sentencing, the United States conceded that these representations were fabricated.'"

"Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel is at it yet again. In spite of having some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, after gun violence in his fair city peaked last weekend he’s calling for… wait for it… increased gun controls. 'Having effective gun control is essential to providing safety around the city,' Emanuel said (apparently without irony) at a press conference. Claiming that Chicago’s gun laws need to be different than those elsewhere in Illinois, Emanuel said that 'gun control is essential.' To fix the problem, he’s calling for . . ." ... |

"Back in March, National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea observed that the Illinois 'justice' system was still not acquitting people charged with violating a law that had been ruled unconstitutional. The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals had months previously ruled that Illinois' outright ban of defensive firearm carry violated the Second and Fourteenth Amendments, and was thus not legitimate law--but people were nevertheless being prosecuted for its violation."
"Now, two days after a law has been passed and put into effect providing for the issuance of concealed carry licenses, the Illinois State Police advise on their website that those found carrying a firearm without a permit will still be arrested and charged. ..." ... |

... "Whereas my husband justified the acquisition of a private arsenal on the perceived need for protection, there is a mountain of evidence suggesting that the presence of guns in the home does not make anybody safer. On the contrary, the Harvard Injury Control Center finds that higher rates of gun ownership correlate directly with higher rates of homicide, suicide and unintentional shootings. Keeping a firearm in the home increases the risk of homicide by a factor of three." ... |

"Yep, you read that right. Congresswoman Jackie Speier from the great state of California has introduced legislation into the U.S. House of Representatives that would make it illegal to sell a firearm that is capable of being fired by a five year old child when the gun is 'ready to fire.' Nevermind that every single gun ever designed meets that requirement, Jackie thinks we need to ban those guns…for the children. Naturally. Also on her legislative agenda is a bill that would redefine 'armor piercing' bullets to include teflon bullets and be based on armor-piercing capacity instead of metallurgical content. ..." ... |

"The numbers tell the story. They’re hidden deep in the finance report by Detroit’s Emergency Manager ... Kevyn Orr ..." ...
"... Orr documents a police department that is increasingly failing; he doesn’t have 2012 or 13 murder numbers, but he notes that a 2012 police call took a half hour, and by 2013 it was near-as-dammit to a full hour. That’s for a priority one call. In some precincts, it was close to two hours. (Not coincidentally, a reporter does have 2012 figures, and murder was up (408) and population down (695,000)."

Defense saying that is true but no one can say without any reasonable doubt that one story is the absolutely correct one. Defense is letting their expert witness, ex LEO turned PI ramble on and now he is being questioned on all aspects of the trail. He has never been before a jury as a PI expert witness and is giving narratives instead of yes and no answers. O'Mara, the defense attorney should have quit while he was ahead. "In reviewing the media and comments of people I run into, it seems that the issue of why would someone carry a gun in a place that is not deemed unsafe. I think it fair to say that non gun owners feel that where they live and travel to are safe places that do not require a gun. They have a mindset that a gun is only for going to dangerous places. If not, they too would carry a gun. Seems kind of given. Who, when afforded the opportunity to carry a defensive weapon, would decline it if they thought that their life was going to be in danger? So now we are seeing the age-old argument about if someone is carrying a gun in a 'safe' area, they must be out looking for trouble ..." ... |
