Legal ownership of weapons is creating tensions between police officers and communities, President Obama said to buttress his call for tighter gun laws. "Part of what's creating tensions between communities and the police is the fact that police are having a really difficult time in communities where they know guns are everywhere," Obama said during a NATO press conference in Warsaw, Poland. "They have a right to come home, and now they have very little margin for error in terms of making decisions. So if you care about the safety of our police officers, then you can't set aside the gun issue and pretend that that's irrelevant."

The gunman who killed five police officers at a protest march had practiced military-style drills in his yard and trained at a private self-defense school that teaches special tactics, including "shooting on the move," a maneuver in which an attacker fires and changes position before firing again. Micah Johnson, an Army veteran, received instruction at the Academy of Combative Warrior Arts in the Dallas suburb of Richardson about two years ago, said the school's founder and chief instructor, Justin J. Everman. |

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance called on community members to write to the Buhl City Council this weekend to change part of city code. The part they are trying to get changed is Title Four, Chapter Three article B which says that it is unlawful for anyone to discharge a weapon in city limits. It does have the exception for law enforcement if it is part of their line of duty. The ISAA says that it should have an exception for self defense of any citizen.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said Sunday that open carry gun laws made it difficult for police to tell, in the aftermath of the shooting that killed five police officers Thursday night, who was a suspect and who wasn't. "That is one of the real issues with the gun right issues that we face, that in the middle of a firefight, it's hard to pick out the good guys and the bad guys," he said on CBS' "Face the Nation." "...The common sense would tell you you don't know where the gunfire is coming from, there were individuals that ran across the gunfire ... so it sure took our eye off the ball for a moment."

In the wake of the Orlando massacre, the concealed carry on campus gun debate has been reignited, with the main point of contention being whether or not students and faculty who are licensed gun holders should be able to take their concealed weapons on the Florida State campus. Students occupy both sides of the argument, offering reasoning and rebuttals for whether or not the provision to keep concealed weapons off post-secondary institutions should be nullified or remain as the current state of law.

Gov. Jerry Brown and the Democratic Legislature have a unique plan to enhance public safety in California. They have reduced the state prison population from close to 150,000 in 2010 to 113,000 now by downgrading what crimes put an offender in prison. Now they are pushing a ballot measure that would enable repeat serious and violent offenders to qualify for early release — to further reduce the state prison population. No worries, though, because they also are passing laws that make it harder or costlier for everyone to buy guns and ammunition. |

Not long ago, the National Rifle Association ranked the two men running for Ohio’s U.S. Senate seat an A and A plus. Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican, got the A. Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat, got the A plus. But much has changed. While Portman remains opposed to measures limiting access to guns, Strickland says the spate of mass shootings in recent years proves change is needed.
