~They admit they are incrementally trying to disarm the American public. They also are really upset that our representative has basically told them to shove it. See the video. |

~~Make that title "Armed Robber killed in criminal act". Or ... We must be good victims, if your part of the RAT squad.
Newsday: A Wyandanch man was the robber who was fatally shot by the attendant of a Mobil gas station in North Bellmore during a Monday afternoon holdup, Nassau police said yesterday. |

A gun-smuggling operation in Miami, Fla., is being used to illustrate the global small-arms trafficking problem as the U.N. Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons gets underway in New York...
"We really need wider accords with countries that manufacture the guns, to try to get more control over the legal sale of weapons," said Colonel Alberto Ruiz, director of the DIJIN, Colombia's judicial police force. "Because most illegal arms begin as legal arms." |

On July 11th, the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence will present its 2001 Abraham Lincoln Award to Cook County State's Attorney Dick Devine.
The ISRA has seen little over the past 5 years to indicate that Dick Devine is serious about curtailing criminal gun use. On the other hand, Devine has been quick to use both his political clout, and the resources of the State's Attorney's office to back efforts at taking guns away from law abiding citizens. |

The Justice Department is about to reverse the opinion, formulated 30 years ago under Richard Nixon, that individuals do not have a right to keep and bear arms. The new opinion will state that individuals DO have such a right.
Although this news is a victory for gun owners, it may be a transient one if the next Attorney General can simply offer another "opinion".
KABA NOTE: Send notes of thanks to Ashcroft and Bush. Even though it is EXPECTED, it is still good to show thanks when our officials stick to their oaths to uphold the Constitution, as well as outrage when they don't. |

J.D. Tuccille: "While most Americans take the Fourth of July for granted, the founders of the United States would likely be more than a little troubled by the complacency with which the date is treated. They suffered from no illusions that the nation they created enjoyed anything resembling guaranteed longevity, or that its liberty was self-sustaining." |

"When it comes to symbolizing freedom and the spirit of '76, I do think there's a better American flag. With all due respect to the stars and stripes, I prefer the yellow "Gadsden" flag with the coiled rattlesnake.
The meaning of Old Glory can get mixed up with the rights and wrongs of the perpetually new-and-improved government. The meaning of "Don't Tread on Me" is unmistakable.
There's also an interesting history behind this flag..." |

This is pretty funny. Another example of "trained professionals" in action.
The best part is where the Police Chief, "defended the officers saying they had a right to defend themselves" - from each other!
On a serious note, only the fact that they managed not to hurt anyone, despite twenty shots, keeps this from being tragic. |

Three recent armed robberies in Howard County (MD), all linked to a pair of masked men, reflect a "higher incidence of firearms being used" in robberies this year, police said.
~~All I can say is DUH! If you take away the guns from the law abiding citizens, only the criminals will have them. |

This is a tragic story, but it brings to light how well trigger locks work on handguns when teens get around them. Not to mention that they stole the gun from a neighbor. |

"But with his freedom came a twist straight out of Kafka: not only did he get no compensation, but the state then sued him for the child support it paid while he was in prison."
Well, I'm sure he was guilty of *something*...
KABA NOTE: Our hope is he can get a lawyer to take this case and win. |
