... "Shut up Ridge. Talk about a rascal who needs to be thrown out. As far as I’m concerned 'Republicans' like you are bigger threats than any Democrat simply by your ability to subvert the party from the inside. The only people who will listen to you are party hacks über alles, the ignorant, and those who can be cowed. I can’t think of a single freedom-loving man or woman I know and respect who views a bloated statist career parasite like you as anything other than exactly that." ...

"With a homemade .22-caliber rifle he calls the Montana Buckaroo, Gary Marbut dreams of taking down the federal regulatory state."

"He's not planning to fire his gun. Instead, he wants to sell it, free from federal laws requiring him to record transactions, pay license fees and open his business to government inspectors." ...

"Mr. Marbut isn't basing his pro-gun effort on the Second Amendment, the one that talks about a right to bear arms, but on the 10th, which discusses the limits of federal power."

"There are people who believe that everything can be solved by negotiation. If there’s a conflict, there are two sides. If there are two sides, those sides can negotiate a settlement. One side gives up something. The other side gives up something. They reach a compromise. Conflict is defused or, hopefully, eliminated. Yes, well, Martin Luther King carried a revolver. There are times when 'compromise' is just another word for surrender, whereby you lose everything and gain nothing. Raise the debt limit and raise taxes? No. Hand over the wallet and get shot? No. Ah but—you don't want to shoot someone just in case they might shoot you. How do you know it's time to make a stand? The obvious answer is . . ." ...

"The daily horror of mass murder in Mexico hit the U.S. Congress last week in the form of scandal. Sadly, the scandal is not about the incredible loss of life in the drug wars. Instead, Republicans in Congress are busy targeting their least favorite member of the Obama cabinet, Attorney General Eric Holder."

"The order is to place greater restrictions on the sale of weapons in states near the U.S.-Mexican border, and impose tougher penalties for those who violate certain guns laws. It won’t apply, of course, to ATF and Justice Department gun sales to Mexican drug cartels. But this isn’t about that sloppy 'Project Gunrunner' program."

"Gov. John Lynch vetoed four bills Wednesday including one to expand a resident’s right to defend himself in public using deadly force (SB 88)."

"'SB 88 would unleash the potential for increasing deadly violence in our communities,' Lynch wrote in his veto message. 'It would allow the use of deadly force on street corners, in shopping malls, public parks and in retail stores. Drug dealers and other felons who brandish weapons will be further emboldened to use their weapons, while prosecution of those criminals will be made more difficult because of this bill’s expansion of the right to use deadly force.'" ...
-------

Submitter's Note: I would never accuse the Governor of lying so he must just be a complete flippin' moron! Deadly force is already allowed "on street corners, in shopping malls, public parks and in retail stores", SB 88 merely removes the "duty to retreat" before using deadly force. As for "[d]rug dealers and other felons who brandish weapons" they are prohibited persons (which would not change under SB 88) and thus mere possession is already a felony (and we'll leave for another day the argument about whether that is good or bad).

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. — Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.
