"The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit against Westchester County, New York and its handgun permit licensing officers, seeking a permanent injunction against enforcement of a state law that allows carry licenses to be denied because applicants cannot show 'good cause.'"

SAF is joined in the lawsuit by Alan Kachalsky and Christina Nikolov, both Westchester County residents whose permit applications were denied. Kachalsky's denial was because he could not 'demonstrate a need for self protection distinguishable from that of the general public.' Nikolov's was denied because she could not demonstrate that there was 'any type of threat to her own safety anywhere.' ..." ...

You like their leather bindings, their fancy endpapers, the way they speak to you of other times and places, the way they feel in your hand. You like the way they smell. Naturally, you’re aware that books are dangerous. Over the long, sad, gory course of history, they’ve resulted in the slaughter of millions. Books like Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Das Kapital, Mein Kampf, even the Bible. But you have too much intelligence to blame the books themselves. You know that books don’t kill people. People kill people."

"Five years ago, in the post-apocalyptic environment that was New Orleans following its devastation by Hurricane Katrina, the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation moved quickly to intervene when local police officials – acting under color of law, but without any warrants, probable cause or true authority under Louisiana statute – announced that in the chaos and anarchy, private citizens would be disarmed."

"Now, one of the uglier aspects of this disaster has become clear with the indictment of several police officers for the shooting of several unarmed citizens.

"In order for the Second Amendment to be truly preserved, it must have support of both of our major political parties. That's evidenced by the fact that in the most Democratic Conresss a generation, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has not only been preserved, but has been enhanced, and we owe much of that support from pro-gun Democrats, including Harry Reid."

"Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment, protecting the right to bear arms, applies to the states, too, not just the federal government. This decision is good news for Wisconsin, which has a long and proud tradition of hunting and gun ownership." ...

As Congress and the Supreme Court face questions in the future about the right to bear arms, I will keep working to defend citizens' rights in communities across America.
