Frangible – the characteristic of breaking into tiny fragments – is a bullet that doesn't deform or expand like a hollow point, but instead shatters or disintegrates upon impact with the target. This target is anything harder than the bullet itself, which is usually made of composite materials that are pressed together with adhesives or formed under high pressure into a "solid" bullet shape. Frangible bullets are sometimes known as Advanced Energy Transfer rounds, or AETs, and the Glaser Safety Slug is by far the most recognizable name.

Officials say the 49-year-old lieutenant -- who was off-duty at the time -- entered the woman’s home and began shooting at the couple around 11:20 p.m. Sunday night, before fleeing the scene, NJ.com reported. The motive of the alleged attack is unclear.

"She ran out of that house, went to next-door neighbor banging on the door, yelling she had been shot," Thomas Verrone, a retired Passaic County Sheriff’s Officer who lives in the area, told the website. "But it was late at night so no one answered."

Submitter's note: File this under "only the police should have guns".

Gun rights supporters and advocates for the preservation of Constitutional rights in Washington state were on the verge of celebrating justice when the unthinkable happened. A superior court judge had emphatically and rightfully ruled that a document sighting potential changes to state law and used by the gun control lobby to gather signatures, was in blatant violation of the basic policy of the initiative process, and effectively blocked the entire measure from reaching the ballot.

Citing their “false sense of security,” the Second Amendment Foundation has launched an ambitious effort to end so-called “gun-free zones” with an advertising campaign for print and online publications.

“For more than two decades,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “the U.S. has perpetuated a false sense of security with gun-free zones. It’s time to end this dangerous folly. Nobody wants to be a sitting duck in a maniac’s shooting gallery.”

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said South Carolina deer hunters should start seeing deer tags for the 2019 season in their mailboxes soon, and there are significant changes to the antlerless tagging system that all hunters need to be aware of before taking to the field. New for this year are improvements to the Antlerless Deer Tag program. A new law was passed by the General Assembly, resulting in the elimination of the eight date specific anterless tags, replacing them with two anterless tags that may be used on any day beginning Sept. 15 in Game Zones 2, 3 and 4, and Oct. 1 in Game Zone 1.

Women from across the country, representing all 50 states, traveled to the nation’s capital last Monday to spend the week meeting with legislators to discuss firearms, self-defense, and cumbersome gun control laws. The initiative, known as The DC Project, is a nonpartisan, grassroots movement that organizes women to share with lawmakers why they choose to own and carry firearms. Ages ranged from 11 to 76, and included students, moms, competitive shooters, and victims of assault.

The magnitude of the mystery of “what women want” may never be fully unraveled, but we took a step toward that goal by examining what types of concealed carry guns we ladies choose most often. To discover the answers to this age-old (OK, maybe not quite that ancient) query, I consulted with one of my favorite firearms experts, Kaitlyn Lentz. You met her in the recent series titled “Girls Who Sell Guns – The Consultant: Kaitlyn Lentz.”

After many years of youthful machismo (and being broke), I think I can finally admit that the old shotty-in-the-corner-of-the-bedroom trick is probably not ideal. For one, my dog could knock over my beloved Mossberg with one swish of his beaver-like tail, and two, anyone, including my friends’ kids, could get their mitts on it in the time it takes to yell “Scram.” While I insist on keeping a shotgun ready to spring into action in the deepest of night, I’ve come to realize that the 99 percent of the time (or 100 percent to date) I’m not using it for self-defense, it should be stored safe from dust and unauthorized access.

There's a growing trend of Tennessee counties wanting to declare themselves as pro-gun second amendment sanctuaries, and Greene County may become the latest. County commissioners are considering a resolution Monday night. It stems from a state bill that didn't pass, but it would have allowed police to confiscate guns from residents flagged as dangerous by family or law enforcement.

The United States is gun country. About 40 percent of Americans live in a gun-owning household. The United States has 4.4 percent of the world’s population, but almost half — 42 percent — of civilian-owned guns. In the wake of the Supreme Court decision in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), and a massive public relations and lobbying campaign by the National Rifle Association, support for the Second Amendment right of Americans to bear arms has grown.

Plenty of folks have been packing snub guns like the Ruger SP101 and LCR, Smith & Wesson J-Frame and the Taurus 85 for years (including yours truly). However, over the last decade or so, a variety of affordably priced pocket-sized polymer framed .380 ACP and 9 mm pistols have been horning in on the sales of snub-nose 5-shot revolvers. During this same time period, some state legislatures have voted to crack down on semi-automatic handguns by limiting the ammunition capacity for carry pistols. As a result, defensive revolvers are enjoying increased sales in those states.
