Canik handguns have been imported by Century Arms for the last few years. These pistols have somewhat of a cult following and after handling the TP9SFx both at the 2017 SHOT Show and on my range I understand why. It seems the various Turkish firearms manufactures have tapped into something that many of the big name players need to follow; give the customer a good value for their hard earned dollars. |

Despite announcing that he will vote to confirm Christopher Wray to head the FBI, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) couldn’t resist the temptation to trot out his anti-gun talking points during this week’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Wray, described by the Washington Post as “a low-key former senior Justice Department official,” is President Donald Trump’s pick to replace fired former FBI head James Comey. The 50-year-old Wray maintained that demeanor during several hours of questioning. |

The gunman’s bullet that struck Representative Steve Scalise at a congressional baseball practice last month entered at his left hip, smashing bone and tearing into internal organs as it ripped through his body. At the hospital, doctors stopped the internal bleeding. At the White House, President Trump called for unity. And at the Capitol, congressional leaders offered the prayers of a nation. But then, Scalise’s Republican colleagues did something truly craven: They used the shooting to rally support for less restrictive gun laws. |

More guns are going through airport security than ever before — something security agents call a concerning trend that no one can seem to explain. Gun seizures at D.C. regional airports rose 34 percent from 2015 to 2016. In most cases, a passenger forgot to remove it from a carry on bag, but once a gun is on federal property, it can mean an arrest and an up to $11,000 in fines, Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein told The Baltimore Sun. |

Bob Fralick, president of the Clark County Sportsman’s Club, says skeet shooting is generally on the wane. But the club at has been tuning up target trajectories in three skeet fields reasoning that night-time shooting — skeet under the lights — might attract a summertime following. The wobble stand is a bit of a novelty, requiring that teammates take turns firing and loading their .12-, .20-, .28-gauge or .410 shotguns as 50 clay birds spray across the yawning field in front of them.

Families. You can’t live with them and you can’t live without them. We are in the middle of a family drama right now in the U.S.A., and have yet to see how that will turn out. We all hope for the best, I am sure, and in the meantime, I am reminded of a family drama that played out in a quite different, though equally dramatic fashion, in the 18th Century while this nation was being formed. |

Oh, I know it is the middle of July and the temperatures are scorching hot, but I also know dove season is less than 45 days away. I also know that just this past week after watching the debut summer episode of "Struttin Bucks" on the Pursuit Channel, I am definitely fired up for the 2017 deer season in the Natural State. If you have not had a chance to see the show featuring Brandon Hunt's harvest of the "Hurricane Buck," I highly suggest you check your listings (Pursuit Channel) and find out when it will air again to catch some of Hunt and Heath Graham's work. It is simply outstanding and will definitely have you fired up for the upcoming season! |

Inadequate tools can make the process of cleaning dirty guns much harder than it has to be. Using patch-wrapped tool tips or cotton swaps intended for personal hygiene to scrub at those hard to reach places can be awkward and inefficient. Often these impromptu tools fall apart half way through the cleaning or leave bits fibers and dross behind. The good news is the folks at Super Brush LLC have developed the Swab-its line of polyurethane foam swabs and applicators especially designed for gun cleaning, including a new Star Chamber swab for AR-15/M4 chambers. |

A year ago, Mark Hughes’ life was permanently changed when he attended a Black Lives Matter march in Dallas. He was legally carrying his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, which he decided to do to protest the fatal police shooting of Philando Castile, who was also legally carrying a firearm when he was killed because of it. “Does the Second Amendment not apply to us, to bear arms?” Hughes muses. |
