Residents in Oak Park awake to gunfire and look outside to see a police officer shooting a deer at night.
One man says a shot nearly hit him. He has hired a lawyer and there is an internal investigation into the officer.
"Who in the hell shoots at a deer in front of houses," the man said.
An Oak Park man woke up early Wednesday morning thinking his house was getting shot up.
"It came right above my head when I was sleeping," he said.
The bullet hole in his wall is right above his headboard of his bedroom inside his residence off Ridgedale Street.
He would soon learn - the bullet came from an Oak Park Police Officer called to his street to euthanize an injured deer. |

The National Rifle Association on Thursday endorsed President Trump’s reelection bid, saying that he had “delivered” on his promise to protect Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
"On behalf of America’s 5 million NRA members, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is proud to endorse your reelection as president of the United States of America,” the NRA’s political action committee said in a letter to Trump. “You have done more than any president to protect the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The NRA stands behind you and your administration.”

The nation’s largest gun rights group has endorsed Trump every year he’s run for president.
In the 2020 race, gun rights are emerging as a cornerstone issue as gun sales hit record highs and liberal states move to restrict access to guns.
What’s more, with Democrat Joe Biden leading Trump in every poll, gun advocates are growing worried that Biden may win and reimpose gun bans he championed in the past.
And, in its endorsement letter, the NRA noted that Trump has appointed pro-Second Amendment judges, another issue that is surging in importance. |

I am a Democrat and a United States Navy veteran who was trained on rifles and pistols while in the service. I believe that comparing an AR-15 with a “weapon of war” is an unfair comparison. I never carried an AR-15 in the Navy, I carried an M4A1 which was select fire for semi-automatic and full-automatic use. I also never went to war with that rifle, and most people wouldn’t; it was strictly for defense of the ship and law enforcement use as a member of the Ship’s Reaction Force and In-Port Security Forces.

Barakat said she was told by the range's manager that it was “a safety issue." She said they left when it became clear they weren't going to let them shoot. |

While Thomas and Associate Justice Samuel Alito rarely disappoint conservatives, Gorsuch did that twice in recent weeks. Earlier in the term, Kavanaugh voted with Roberts and the four liberal justices in two cases affecting gun rights and the environment.
In the Second Amendment case, the court issued an unsigned opinion declaring a New York City restriction on transporting guns moot after it was rescinded. Kavanaugh agreed with the decision, while Gorsuch, Thomas and Alito dissented. |

A group called Black Guns Matter is teaching Black Americans how to handle and use firearms in the wake of protests and increased racial tensions.
According to Business Insider, Maj Toure, the founder of the group, has been advocating for Black Americans to take up arms for self-defense.
“I believe that more Black people would be alive if they were armed,” Toure told Business Insider Weekly. “So when I hear ‘unarmed Black man,’ I’m sad, because there should be no such thing.” |

Marissa McCall Dodson, public policy director for the Southern Center for Human Rights, said the citizen’s arrest law could be repealed while maintaining the ability of shopkeepers to detain shoplifting suspects, according to Capitol Beat. Homeowners would still be protected by the legal right to self-defense, she said.
But without citizen’s arrest, Georgians wouldn’t have a right to detain someone breaking into their home or otherwise committing a crime against them. They would have a right to use deadly force against them.
If citizen’s arrest is repealed, “you incentivize a homeowner to kill someone rather than detain them under the citizen’s arrest law,” Porter said, according to Capitol Beat.

It is little surprise that, during these difficult and uncertain times, many Americans who never before considered the prospect of gun ownership are coming to appreciate their Second Amendment rights. Even in “normal” times, Americans often rely on their firearms to protect themselves and others.
According to a 2013 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost every major study on the issue has found that Americans use their firearms in self-defense between 500,000 and 3 million times a year. There’s good reason to believe that most of these defensive gun uses never are reported to police, much less make the local or national news. |

A Hamburg Township man was sentenced to one year probation Tuesday after previously pleading to possession of a weapon in a weapon-free school zone.
Police said Kurtis Heathcott, 25, accidentally shot himself in the parking lot at Howell's Three Fires Elementary School on Jan. 17.
Heathcott was waiting in his vehicle to pick up his child at the elementary school when he accidentally fired one round while adjusting his handgun, Michigan State Police said. The bullet struck him in the leg. He was alone in his vehicle at the time, police said.
He did not have a concealed pistol license at the time of the incident, Livingston County Prosecutor William Vailliencourt said. |
