... "The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has determined that the language of 18 U.S.C. § 925(d)(3) permits no exceptions that would allow frames, receivers or barrels for otherwise non-importable firearms to be imported into the United States. Accordingly, ATF will no longer approve ATF Form 6 applications for importation of any frames, receivers, or barrels for firearms that would be prohibited from importation if assembled. No exceptions to the statutory language, for example for 'repair or replacement' of existing firearms, will be allowed." ... -------

"Following the broadcast of its latest attack on American firearm laws and .50-caliber rifles by the CBS newsmagazine '60 Minutes,' the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today called on the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate the subject of that report, identified as Florin Krasniqi."
"In his report, CBS' Ed Bradley acknowledged that Krasniqi entered the United States illegally from Mexico 'in the trunk of a car' and that he is now a U.S. citizen and 'highly successful' businessman. Krasniqi admitted on camera that he has also smuggled firearms purchased in this country for use by Albanian guerilla fighters, an act that may be illegal under U.S. export laws." ... |

"Was the 2nd Amendment included in the Constitution to protect our right to hunt, our right to target shoot, or our right to defend ourselves from the local neighborhood hoodlums?"
"While those may be important benefits of the 'right of the people to keep and bear arms,' is that really why our founders declared it an unalienable right, and locked it in the Bill of Rights at the number two spot - right behind the freedoms of speech, assembly and religion?"
"The short answer is of course, no. The 2nd Amendment was intended to protect the states and the people from being forced to suffer through another 'long train of abuses' like the ones that led to the war against Britain - a purpose for which, unfortunately, the 2nd Amendment it is already dead." ... |

A toy gun you can buy in local dollar stores has Calgary City Police worried.
The toy looks very real, in fact it looks very similar to the Glock 27, the handgun carried by Calgary police officers.
The toy gun has all the features of a real Glock, including a removable clip, slide action and a realistic looking barrel.
Police are concerned about what might happen if people, especially an officer on a weapons call, can't tell the difference between the toy and the real thing.
Already city police have been called to investigate two teenage boys carrying guns, in that case it was the fake guns. |

Your July 5 editorial stated, "The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the nation's oldest civil rights organization …"
This is incorrect.
I don't know for sure what the oldest civil rights organization is, but the National Rifle Association was founded in 1871, far earlier than the NAACP'S 1908 founding. This makes the NRA the older of the two, and perhaps the oldest, period.
I realize that The Blade doesn't think the Second or Fifth amendments count as rights, but they are still in the Bill of Rights, and should be discussed as such.
