On Monday, CRPA attorneys appeared in San Diego US District Court at the request of District Court Judge Benitez to answer questions about the appropriate next steps in CRPA’s Rhode v. Bonta lawsuit challenging ammunition sales restriction laws that were put in effect by Gavin Newsom’s Prop 63. CRPA already got a win in this case when the Court properly applied the reasoning in the Supreme Court’s 2008 Heller decision and granted CRPA’s request for an injunction blocking enforcement of the ammo sales restrictions several years ago.

It’s a tragic reality: Many of America’s mass shooters are young adults. According to the Violence Project, from 1966 to the present, the median age of perpetrators of shootings at K-12 schools is 18. And The New York Times reports that six of the country’s nine deadliest mass shootings between 2018 and June 2022 were carried out by people younger than 21.

At a recent writer’s event at The Site in Mount Carroll, IL, we had a chance to talk with Mike Humphries, Media Relations Manager for Springfield Armory, about the new Echelon pistol. Designed as a full-size, completely ambidextrous 9 mm handgun with a unique optics-mounting system, the new Echelon has been garnering a good deal of attention since its release last week, and we wanted to take a closer look. |

A Delaware-based Second Amendment group lashed out at organizers of the Delaware State Fair over rules prohibiting lawful gun owners from carrying their weapons on fairgrounds. “The Delaware State Fair is now officially anti-gun,” an email blast recently sent to members of the Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association (DSSA) proclaims. The notice sounds off against a policy that prohibits patrons, vendors, exhibitors, volunteers and employees from carrying firearms at the fair from July 20-29, 2023.

Arkansas Second Amendment activists and county sheriffs called on a legislative panel Monday to create a task force to provide guidance to firearms instructors and citizens regarding state gun law. Gary Epperson, president of Gun Owners of Arkansas, told lawmakers that qualifications for becoming a firearms instructor who can teach the course for a concealed-carry permit vary and said subpar training could be used against the state in lawsuits. He also expressed concern about a lack of accountability in the state’s firearms permitting program run by Arkansas State Police.

Despite a statewide permitless handgun carry law being in effect for more than a year, South Bend officials say that the number of shootings in the city has gone down compared to previous years.
HEA 1296, passed on July 1, 2022, removed the requirement to have a permit to carry a handgun in the state of Indiana. The proposed law had city leaders up in arms before it was passed.

Mark Berdolet, a long-time concealed firearm permit holder in Oklahoma, found his application for renewal rejected due to his medical marijuana card. Berdolet, who uses medical marijuana to manage neuropathy side-effects, was surprised by this outcome, particularly given the state’s Second Amendment sanctuary status, established by Senate Bill 631 in 2021. This law promises to protect gun ownership rights for all law-abiding citizens.

SIG debuted the closed emitter Romeo M17 – which, as its name would imply, is built from the ground up as a near "bomb-proof" red dot for the military's M17 and M18 Modular Handgun System pistols – earlier this year. Constructed of forged 7075 aluminum with a beryllium copper flexure arm (more on that in a minute) the Romeo M17 has an extremely low deck height so that armorers can reuse standard iron sights, has 15 illumination settings (including three for use with Gen 3+ night vision), beats drop and submersion tests, and, importantly, has an integral loaded chamber gas deflector shield that keeps the MHS from gassing up the lens after 10-15 rounds.

Few rounds are as iconic as the .45-70, which has withstood the test of time. Would you believe me if I told you there was another time-tested option with less kick?
The .38-55 Winchester is that option, but can it hang with its big-bore counterpart? |

The 45 ACP is one of the best personal defense cartridges; however, using a hollow point bullet decreases the chance of over-penetration and increases the stopping power of this already powerful round.
That brings to question what are the best 45 hollow points? |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution. [Bliss vs. Commonwealth, 12 Ky. (2 Litt.) 90, at 92, and 93, 13 Am. Dec. 251 (1822) |
