Let’s start with a common set of facts before we argue about their significance. I want to put violence in perspective. 2019 is the last year where I could find complete data from both the US Department of Justice and the US Center for Disease Control. This is what I found.
-We are about a thousand times more likely to use a gun for self-defense than to be the innocent victim who is murdered in the criminal use of a firearm.
-We are about 8 thousand times more likely to use a gun in self-defense than for that gun to accidentally kill a child.

Effective July 1, Iowa no longer requires certain residents to have a permit to acquire or permit to carry to purchase handguns from federally licensed firearms dealers.
Instead, those who apply without permits need to undergo the National Instant Criminal Background Check System background check for each purchase. They must be at least 21 years old unless they possess a professional permit to carry a firearm while working in an occupation that requires it, according to the bill, HB756. |

For more than two centuries, the Second Amendment has protected this nation from threats foreign and domestic. The Founding Fathers understood that the right to keep and bear arms was the most practical method of defending one’s self, family and property against those who want to cause harm.
They included it as a result of personal experiences with oppression and wanted to ensure future generations were well prepared to defend against such threats. The Second Amendment exists today because of the British Army’s attempt to seize the colonists’ firearms and ammunition in Concord, Mass. on April 18, 1775. |

In 2019, Taurus International decided to set aside the company's more unusual offerings. Instead, the team focused their efforts on improving product quality, manufacturing consistency and continuing to offer reliable handgun options that meet their customers’ needs at affordable prices.
The company upgraded its compact polymer framed defensive 9 mm pistol offerings with the release of the G3 series. Since that time, the industry has seen a sharp rise in the demand for pistols that leave the factory with slides that are ready to accept micro red dot optics (MRDO). |

Fort Worth authorities have determined a road rage shooting that left a motorcyclist dead was an act of self-defense.
According to police, the confrontation occurred Friday after a near collision on the freeway, caused by the motorcyclist driving between lanes on the center of the white line. The driver of a sport utility vehicle changing lanes did not see the motorcyclist, prompting the latter to park in the road - blocking traffic - and walk toward the SUV driver with his gun drawn, KDFW reported. |

But the authors of an essay collection published by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law argue that expanding access to guns will undermine safety, stability and democracy in the U.S.
Titled “Protests, Insurrection and the Second Amendment,” the 13 essays “probe the complicated relationship between guns and race, policing, domestic violence, and republican government,” writes Brennan Center fellow Eric Ruben. |

Today, both Kansas and out-of-state law-abiding gun owners will be able to take advantage of pro-gun legislation that was passed into law during the Legislative Session, House Bill 2058.
Proposed by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, House Bill 2058 does the following:
Recognizes all out-of-state concealed carry permits, and allows those who have been licensed to carry a firearm for self-defense, to do so lawfully in Kansas. This legislation recognizes that visitors to Kansas should not be left defenseless simply by crossing a state line. |

Rimfire firearms have been a staple of any serious outdoorsman’s arsenal for well over 100 years. The simplicity, affordability, and lightweight nature of rimfire rifles makes them perfectly suited for small game hunting, pest control, fun plinking and in a pinch self-defense. Most of us probably shot a rimfire rifle as one of our first experiences with firearms and personally I can say that today Rimfire guns in general have been one of my constant favorites throughout the years. These are my top 5 rimfire survival rifles for any situation. Hopefully I’d never need it to come to that, but if it did, one of these would help me (or you) be prepared. |

Louisiana's Speaker of the House Clay Schexnayder talks about the probability of a legislative veto session and the specific laws vetoed by Governor Edwards they hope to overturn.
The veto session, which is scheduled to begin on July 20, would take a look at two Edwards' vetoes, the gun rights bill known as Constitutional Carry and a law mandating that athletes can only compete in sports consistent with their biological sex.
The Constitutional Carry bill, SB 118, “removes the requirement for law-abiding individuals to obtain a concealed handgun permit before being allowed to carry concealed, a handgun for self-defense." |

Five new gun laws took effect in Virginia Thursday, and while some describe them as a necessary step forward, others call it a government overreach.
Among the laws are measures that prohibit firearms on the state Capitol grounds and surrounding areas, lengthen the amount of time the FBI has to conduct a background check and prohibit domestic abusers from purchasing, possessing or transporting a firearm for three years after their date of conviction.
Advocates of pro-gun control and pro-second amendment have divisive reactions to the new law. |

Yesterday, the Legislature adjourned sine die from its 2021 legislative session. During this session, the House passed House Bill 2840, critical self-defense legislation to reduce arbitrary boundaries where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless. Unfortunately, the Senate failed to take action on HB 2840 before session ended.
Earlier this session, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 1382, to ensure that access to the Second Amendment remains protected from frivolous lawsuits and also remains protected during emergencies. Governor Doug Ducey signed SB 1382 into law on May 7th, 2021. |

The 1st of July marked the start of a handful of new laws in Tennessee.
One gaining nationwide attention is the Constitutional Carry or Permitless Carry law.
The bill no longer requires gun purchasers to take a course to open or conceal carry a handgun.
”It’s, I mean it is absolutely dangerous not to have at least a fundamental knowledge, I mean absolutely dangerous,” said Matt Estridge lead instructor at Tier One Tactical.
Estridge is versed in counterterrorism.
He along with his wife run Tier One Tactical offering a 90-minute course online for just $19.90. |

But what else do people need to know about this new law? And what are some of the frequently asked questions about the new law?
Experts want to remind people of the age requirement this new permitless carry law applies to.
Experts say it applies to most people 21 and older. It also applies to active military service or if a person is an honorably discharged veteran between the ages of 18 and 20.
John Sartain, an instructor at “On Target” shooting range in Murfreesboro, also talked about some other misconceptions about the new law in effect. |
