"'We cannot slip into a comfortable silence while horrific acts of gun violence become the new normal,' an e-mail from Organizing for Action (formerly Organizing for Obama) asserted. 'Add your name now to show your support for reform.'"

"The solicitation was part of a choreographed blood dance in the wake of an evil loser murdering unarmed Bible study participants at a black church in Charleston, S.C. Naturally, pointing out that the killings occurred in a place where guns were not 'allowed' resulted in angry condemnation. It’s not like those calling for 'a national conversation on guns' mean for you to do anything but listen—and then obey." ...

"Yesterday’s revelation by the Los Angeles Times that the Obama administration is 'pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs' is raising alarms among Second Amendment activists."

"Combined with another stunning Saturday report by the New York Post that, 'The government is prying into our most personal information at the most local levels, all for the purpose of 'racial and economic justice',' it sends a signal that some may see as worrisome and others may suggest is sinister. Whether either story gains traction remains to be seen as the week unfolds." ...

"Obama Just Had A Huge 'Accidental' Effect On Violent Crime & Murder the headline at madworldnews.com proclaims. There’s nothing much you don’t already know in the article: the President’s crusade against gun rights created a backlash that increased the number of gun sales and concealed carriers. The article includes stats and a Facebook post and caption that I shared on my personal timeline. (Yes, she asked my permission, and I gladly gave it. Anything to promote gun rights and concealed carry.) But did her pro-gun piece sway others? Well . . ." ...

Roaring silence from gun prohibitionists after another ‘gun-free zone’ fail

"While Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is getting lots of ink for statements made yesterday in the wake of the Chattanooga shooting that killed four Marines at a recruiting office clearly marked as a 'gun-free zone,' there seems to be a roaring silence from the gun prohibition movement about the failure of a sign to stop a barrage of bullets."

"Perhaps that’s because yesterday’s inability of a 'no guns' sign in a glass door to stop a killer is just the latest example of the 'zone of happy thoughts' stupidity. No matter where such signs are posted, they represent a monumental failure of the common sense that anti-gunners so often mention when they talk about eroding the right to keep and bear arms." ...

"I want to like the The New Yorker magazine. OK, sure, they fired Dan Baum. I have a real soft spot for the once and future Fudd, a TTAG contributor whose Gun Guys remains the seminal examination of modern American gun culture. Aside from ditching the Danster, the New Yorker still has some superb writers in their stable. Unfortunately, if you look past the elegant prose, the New Yorker is frequently revealed as a gussied-up purveyor of inelegantly-argued, ill-informed, left-leaning statist tripe. John Cassidy’s piece Lax Gun Laws Are Becoming a National-Security Issue is a perfect case in point . . ." ...

"After testing the GLOCK 20 I’m still auditioning candidates for my perfect truck pistol: a handgun I can use for concealed carry self-defense and hunting game. Before reviewing the latest contender – the STI Nitro 10 10mm 1911 – I want to address an issue raised by TTAG’s Armed Intelligentsia: why not a truck rifle and a handgun? As many readers pointed out, a rifle is almost always the better choice for taking game. But there are a lot of reasons to hunt with a pistol instead . . ." ...

"Given the fact that the ATF has $200 of my hard-earned scratch and my foot is anxiously tapping as I refresh nfatracker.com, it’s a safe bet to say I can be counted in the short barreled rifle (SBR) fanboy club. My dedication to it isn’t cultish like our boy Leghorn, but the same deity that brought him to the table, 300 BLK, has snagged me as well. Forming a trust, paying $200 to the .gov, and sitting on your hands for 30-180 days isn’t for the weak of constitution. Buying or building a SBR has got to be worth it. Right? And after a year or so of shooting 300 BLK chambered pistols and SBRs, I think the cartridge is worth the hassle. And the CMMG PDW Pistol is a great place to get started . . ." ...

"Ever since I published my first test of Lehigh Defense’s absurdly impressive 'Maximum Expansion' ammunition, people have wanted to see it tested in other calibers. Which I understand, but frankly, I haven’t been in that big of a rush to do so because — well, the .45 Colt version that I tested above is a unique and special situation. It’s an exceptionally over-long bullet, made possible because of the exceptionally long chambers in the .45/.410 shotshell revolvers. I didn’t test Maximum Expansion during my .380 Ammo Quest, because the manufacturer’s own specifications showed that it would only penetrate about 7″. But the 9mm… now that’s a different story . . ." ...

... "But if these Second Amendment-purists really think that guns make places safer, if they really think that guns are an important check on government and safeguard of liberty, then why do so many of them keep their workplace—the U.S. Capitol—free of firearms?"

"For almost two centuries and until very recently, ordinary citizens had free run of the Capitol. Ironically, as Congress has become less hospitable to gun safety laws, and as ... legislators have grown more strident in their desire to see citizens carry open and concealed weapons everywhere—in churches and schools, on college campuses, at bars and restaurants—the one venue that has grown more gun-free, more secure and more restrictive is the building they work in." ...

When two high school students kill other students in Columbine, when mere babes are slaughtered in an elementary school in Connecticut and when [redacted] is able to obtain the firepower to shoot wildly into a crowded, darkened movie theater, we are in the middle of a war we choose not to win."

"I have been rereading the Second Amendment. ... The amendment states that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. But the amendment is silent on what those arms are.
