Our law enforcement is under attack. Groups are using the recent shootings of civilians, which are still being investigated, as an excuse to disrespect and even brutally attack officers and deputies across the country.

A self-described “no compromise” gun lobbying group is adding its firepower to the Mary Thomas campaign for Congress. Gun Owners of America, which considers the NRA soft on gun rights and has 1.5-million members nationwide, endorsed Thomas for the Republican nomination for the 2nd Congressional District Tuesday at a Tallahassee gun store.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is rushing to regulate a new kind of hunting weapon that's a cross between a high-powered air rifle and a crossbow. The device is marketed by the Crosman Corp. as an "Airbow." The company's website says it uses compressed air to fire full-sized arrows with more speed and accuracy than a crossbow.

A Kentucky jailer says his deputies need more protection. Major Ron Swartz, at the Pulaski County Jail, says right now there are only five guns for all the deputies. Major Swartz wants deputies to be able to carry weapons during their time traveling to and from work.

A Muncie man who was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with Delaware County sheriff’s deputies was charged Tuesday with two counts of attempted murder. Gregory Bruce Grider Jr., 28, was hospitalized for seven weeks after the May 27 shootout, which took place in a Liberty Township mobile home owned by his grandmother. OnFriday, he was transferred to the Delaware County Jail, where he continued to be held without bond on Tuesday.

Hillary Clinton would take away Americans' gun rights even though she has been defended by gun-wielding security for 30 years, a top National Rifle Association official said Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention. "For 30 years, she hasn't taken a walk, a nap, or a bathroom break without a good guy with a gun there to protect her," said Chris Cox, the chairman of the NRA's Political Victory Fund, speaking in a primetime slot on the RNC stage.

Recent shootings involving high-powered weapons may be lending momentum to a bill that would allow Illinois cities and villages to enact bans on assault weapons.
State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) is pushing Senate Bill 2130, which would restore the ability of cities and villages to adopt ordinances similar to the Highland Park measure that survived a constitutional challenge last year.

Hillary Clinton will put enough liberals on the Supreme Court to dominate the legal system for forty years and dismantle the Second Amendment, the National Rifle Association warned here at the Republican Convention Tuesday night. Chris Cox, the NRA's top lobbyist, was one of the first of several convention speakers over two days to raise the direction of the Supreme Court in the presidential election and he warned that Clinton would give the liberals immediate control if elected because she would be able to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, gun control's biggest foe on the court.

While promoting his latest gun-toting action movie, Matt Damon took time to praise Australia for its gun-restrictive laws and unsuccessful buyback program — while also lamenting that America was not evolved enough to pass gun control measures. “You guys did it here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly,” Damon said to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Stolen guns are a major concern for law enforcement in Roanoke. Figures show the Star City is on pace to have the highest number of stolen firearms since 2012.
“Someone could get hurt, injured or killed with that firearm whether it be through an intentional criminal act or just negligence,” said Deputy Chief Monti Lee with the Roanoke City Police Department.

Most Utahns support allowing individuals to carry weapons on Utah's college campuses. A new UtahPolicy.com survey finds 56% of Utah voters say they either "strongly" or "somewhat" support allowing guns or rifles on the campuses of Utah's public colleges and universities. 39% say they're opposed, and 5% say they have no opinion on the matter.

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, wants the Centers for Disease Control to be able to study gun violence, and he's gathering data and information from around the state, including Southern Oregon, to make his case. One of his stops Tuesday was the Rogue Valley Family YMCA, where he held a forum attended by representatives from law enforcement, health and education in Jackson, Josephine and Douglas counties. Jackson County District Attorney Beth Heckert, county Medical Director Jim Shames and Rogue Community College President Cathy Kemper-Pelle were among those in attendance.

Following the recent mass shooting in Orlando, and the shootings in Minnesota and Dallas, the sharp political divisions over gun control within the U.S. are once again on display. In June, House Democrats even staged a sit-in to advocate for stronger laws. There is some evidence that more restrictions can reduce gun violence, but another recent shooting highlighted some limitations of regulation. British Member of Parliament Jo Cox was murdered with a "makeshift gun" despite the United Kingdom's restrictive gun-control laws.

One local police department is using a new tool to train police officers on the best way to react when danger is lurking around the corner. The Ravenswood Police department recently received a $22,000 interactive, video simulator.
