"Law enforcers are at least as likely to be criminals as the rest of us, as every conservative and libertarian should know after the age of Clinton and Reno. Likewise after Amadou Diallo, Abner Louima and Waco, it boggles the mind that even Jonah Goldberg would defend police brutality and claim that it helps maintain the social order." --Daniel McCarthy |

CNSNews.com -- The UN Small Arms Conference will have to Continue Until Early Saturday Morning.
U.N. spokesman Fred Eckhard said the conference would continue in a closed-door session and that, "Only about eight of the roughly 86 paragraphs in the draft 'program of action' remain unresolved. These relate, among other things, to ownership of weapons and export controls."

Reuters -- Delegates welcomed the change in Washington's tune but generally agreed that the conference appeared to be headed for a final action plan that would be considerably weaker than many had hoped.
The United States was the most outspoken foe of any controls on civilian ownership or on government sales to non-state actors, they said. Washington has insisted that governments be allowed to sell arms, for example, to freedom fighters battling a genocidal regime. |

"When the FBI arrested a Russian programmer this week on charges of criminal copyright violations, the government unwittingly ignited a powder keg of outrage. Web pages immediately sprouted to demand the release of Dmitry Sklyarov, who was visiting the United States to describe his work at the Defcon hacker convention in Las Vegas..."
~Scary how these people will enforce any "law" they're told to enforce. The only difference between them and the Gestapo is that the FBI doesn't have the catchy uniforms. |

While Cincinnati police face a federal investigation over their use of beanbag projectiles, city officers soon will have a new, nonlethal weapon added to their crowd-control arsenal. Police will receive 17 pepper-ball air rifles, which fire a small round ball containing a powerful pepper powder. The balls quickly debilitate their targets upon impact by emitting powder that is breathed into the lungs and stings the eyes. |

"A determined effort on Capitol Hill seeks to outlaw using U.S. taxpayers’ money to implement any UN gun control ideas that violate U.S. law or the Constitution."
Rep. Bartlett (R-MD) charged that the United Nations would like "to impose registration, confiscation and destruction of firearms owned by citizens of the United States, who are otherwise legally allowed to own firearms. And Americans should not be lulled into complacency by any assurances to the contrary."
KABA NOTE: Actually, if you read the text of House Amendment 197 to H.R.2500, it says "By unanimous consent, the Bartlett amendment was withdrawn." |
