It’s tough to quantify the Ruger PC Charger as it defies ready characterization. The government just calls it a pistol. If it had a happy switch and a folding stock it would be a kick-butt submachine gun. If it had a thermonuclear power source and a hardened iridium chassis it could pass for something from the Terminator. However you choose to classify it, the PC Charger looks cool, runs well and sports scads of real-world utility.

It’s early April as I write this and everyone’s donning surgical masks and gloves, bottles of hand-sanitizer holstered, ready for fast-drawing the Coronavirus. We’re under lockdown, allowed to venture to the grocery store, pharmacy, or getting carryout. Liquor stores are open, perhaps to aid in further numbing our restricted brains? Businesses considered non-essential are closed, effectively crashing the economy. What hits hardest for me is the closure of my shooting range. What nincompoop decided ranges aren’t essential?

None of us want a life with only one gun. But the idea of having one gun that you can turn to—no matter the need—has been and remains appealing. It was that exact proposition that inspired Gunsite Academy founder Jeff Cooper’s concept of a general-purpose rifle known as the Scout Rifle. There can be lots of answers to the question of what the single best hunting, survival, and self-defense firearm might be. To some extent, the answer depends on your specific needs, geographic location, and what exactly you might be trying to survive, hunt, or protect yourself from. Here are 10 options priced from less than $500 and up to $2,000. At least one of them should answer that question for you no matter your circumstance.

Last week, Governor Ned Lamont called for the General Assembly to convene a special session beginning on July 21, 2020. The central focus is expanded absentee balloting, transparency and accountability for law enforcement, telehealth services, and prescription drug prices. While there have not been any indications that Gov. Lamont will use this session for a push towards gun control, your NRA will be actively monitoring the session. |

Gun sales continue to skyrocket in the DMV. In June, Virginia broke a monthly record, selling more than 80,000 guns. It is no shock to experts as to what caused the boom in gun purchases, but gun violence prevention experts believe it will lead to more violence down the line. “I’m not sure in history if we have had this many first-time gun buyers,” David Chipman, gun violence prevention group Giffords said.

With any semi-auto rifle or pistol, one of the primary causes of jams and feeding issues encountered is often attributed to bad, worn, or poor magazines. Not only will a properly cleaned and maintained magazine perform better and last longer, but it speaks to the mindset of the gun’s owner. Most importantly, it gives an opportunity to spot something starting to go wrong before it has a chance to go all the way wrong. When it comes to AR-15 mags, the two most commonly encountered are Magpul PMAGs and aluminum military-style mags. |

I sense a pattern beginning to emerge. It’s almost as if owner and CEO Dennis Reese walked into a Springfield Armory product strategy meeting at some point in 2018 and decreed, “I want you to make everything smaller!”—because much of the company’s design focus since right about that time has been on compactification. Heck, even the M1A’s most recent new model is the relatively abridged 16"-barreled Tanker. |

The Czech Republic continues to be at the forefront of the battle for gun rights in Europe. On July 13, the Czech government announced that it endorsed a plan to enshrine the right of individuals to use a firearm to defend themselves and others in the central European nation’s constitution. The move comes three years after another pro-gun constitutional amendment passed the Czech Chamber of Deputies (the lower house of the Czech Parliament) but failed to receive final approval. |

When the question of self-defense with a .38 Special comes up, the first thing we must acknowledge is that any gun is better than no gun. This is partly because no one wants to get shot with any gun, and partly because any gun can serve as a deterrent to violent action, even if it’s never fired. But of course, the question most folks want answered is if a .38 Special is enough gun to stop a violent attack should they actually have to use it.

#3 steel shot is the perfect substitution for situations where lead is prohibited or where you want less penetration. For home defense, the steel option offers slightly less penetration than the lead round, making it safer than larger ammo types like 00 buck.

New deer hunting regulations in Michigan will allow hunters in the Lower Peninsula to hunt antlerless deer more often and will also permit younger hunters to shoot deer with any number of points. The Natural Resources Commission approved the changes this past week. Hunters may take antlerless deer during archery, firearm, and muzzleloader seasons, and hunters may use any firearm during muzzleloading seasor. |
