The 9mm and 10mm are cartridges with only a millimeter of difference in bullet diameter, but very different histories. The 9mm, otherwise known as the 9mm Luger or 9x19mm Parabellum, is the single most popular semi-auto handgun cartridge in the world today. It was invented in 1901 and has been fielded in just about every military conflict and law enforcement application since that time. Modern bullet and firearm design has only strengthened its position as top dog.

At first glance, the keychains Gina Vamp sells from her Cheyenne-based business, G String Creations, look colorful and girly.

Don’t let the innocent design fool you, though. Armed with items like a cat ear–shaped brass knuckle and small knife, these chains are used for self-defense purposes.

The $45 keychains hold several objects: the knuckle; a knife disguised as a key; a mini flashlight; a safety whistle; a Kubotan, which is a pen-sized combat stick; a leather chain and a fluffy pompom. The pompom won’t keep people safe, Vamp said, but it does make for a cute decoration.

Notably, this is not the first time Roach — a decorated U.S. Coast Guard veteran — has dealt with a shooting in civilian life. In early August 2021, he and his staff came to work to find a bullet hole in the wall of his district office.

An investigation found it was the result of an accidentally loaded and errantly fired gun from a nearby women’s self-defense class, but Roach said the incident still left his staff “rattled.”.

“I would encourage anyone who wants a firearm to get professional training before using a weapon,” he said at the time.

Roach said Thursday that the shooting at his home has his staff “alarmed.” Some have expressed concerns about whether they’ll be safe at the office.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is calling out anti-gun Democrat Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland for portraying Hunter Biden as a “rich guy exercising his Second Amendment rights” as an explanation for Biden’s purchase of a handgun while allegedly failing to admit his drug use on the federal Form 4473 he filled out.

“I’m not sure whether to shake my head in disgust or just laugh out loud,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Raskin’s flippant dismissal of what would otherwise be a serious criminal act if anybody other than Hunter Biden were involved is either a new low in attempted sarcasm, or an exhibition of monumental stupidity.”

U.S. District Judge Beth Freeman ruled against the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) last Thursday. She found the California city’s requirement that gun owners pay a fee to a yet-to-be-determined anti-gun-violence charity group and obtain insurance is constitutional. She ruled the regulations stand up against the Supreme Court’s new history-based test for gun laws and did not infringe on residents’ rights.

“The City has demonstrated that the Insurance Requirement is consistent with the Nation’s historical traditions,” Judge Freeman wrote in NAGR v. San Jose.

The injured man was conscious and talking, Lt Larry Crowson told On Scene reporters.

“Officers were working the scene when a male came up, turned himself in to the officers and stated he shot the victim in self-defense,” Crowson said.

Police planned to look at surveillance video and talk with witnesses as of Wednesday night.

After further investigation, police will contact the District Attorney’s Office to determine whether any criminal charges would be pursued, Crowson said.

An email from Mayor Jacobs' policy advisor — Andrew Davis — to county commissioners on Wednesday references a new interpretation of TCA § 39-17-1359.

"According to TCA § 39-17-1359, the Mayor has changed our policy on firearms in the library. Previously, they were prohibited," he wrote. "We believe that TCA § 39-17-1359 mandates that handgun carry permit holders be allowed to carry in our libraries."

He said that decision required no action from county commissioners, but he wanted them to be informed in case they heard from constituents.

MD: Bruen ruling creates more problems than it solves

Recent decisions prove Bruen, the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 gun rights case, has created a world of problems, as illustrated by the case of 57 year-old Jessie Bullock of Mississippi, who served 17 years for killing a man in a bar fight. 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(1), enacted in 1938, creates a lifetime ban on the possession of guns or ammunition by anyone convicted of a crime that carries more than a one-year sentence.

Bullock was charged in 2018 with possession of a gun in his home. Mississippi U.S. District Court Judge Carlton Reeves reluctantly dismissed charges on the basis of Bruen. The reason? § 18 U.S.C. 922(g) was enacted in 1938, not 1791 or 1868, the years the Second and 14th Amendments were ratified.

A Bossier Parish jury has acquitted a man accused of killing a woman in a road rage incident almost two years ago.

The jury found Ramsey Akes, 24, not guilty in the October 2021 death of Cynthia Walker, 65.

The verdict was returned at 6 p.m. today after asking the judge for additional information during their deliberations. They wanted to see the autopsy report and the charge to the jury. Both were provided.

"We respect the jury's decision," District Attorney Schuyler Marvin said.

...

Akes' defense at trial was the murder was committed self-defense. However, Akes did not take the stand Wednesday.

Responding officers found a man with a gunshot wound in an SUV in the hotel's parking lot. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The man's wife was reportedly the person who called 911 saying she had shot her husband.

Dallas police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened at an apartment complex early Thursday morning.

Officers questioned her at the scene and confiscated a handgun.

Detectives are still investigating the case but said it appears to be one of self-defense. The man does have a history of domestic violence.

As someone who works in the firearms industry, I’ve witnessed the media’s twisted portrayal of gun-related incidents more often than I can count.

When it comes to firearms, misinformation can spread like wildfire. You’ve probably seen stories or blog posts that make you scratch your head and say, “Wait, that can’t be right!”

I got into writing because I was not too fond of the BS and decided to do something about it. In the fast-paced world we live in today, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of information or misinformation. With just a few taps on a screen, we can access a plethora of knowledge, opinions, and perspectives.

A law professor says Measure 114, which Oregon voters approved in the fall and is currently held up by legal challenges, will likely go to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Last week, a federal judge found that Measure 114, the gun safety measure Oregon voters approved in 2022, is constitutional.

The ballot measure bans the manufacture, purchase or sale of magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. And it requires that people take a safety course and pass a background check to get a permit before they can purchase firearms.

After an Illinois circuit court judge sided with the state that the Firearm Owners Identification card is constitutional, the plaintiff plans to appeal.

The FOID card was enacted in the 1960s and has gone through various reforms since. The ID issued by Illinois State Police for a $10 fee is required for Illinoisans to buy or possess firearms and ammunition. Illinois is one of four states that require a state-issued permit to buy or own a firearm and ammunition.

John Boch with the organization Guns Save Life filed the lawsuit challenging the FOID card in 2019. Boch argues the law violates the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms and that the fee is "exorbitant."

People who ascribe to the anti-gun rhetoric and agenda, and who belong to groups such as Moms Demand Action (MDA), Everytown for Gun Safety, and Giffords Courage to Fight Gun Violence, all proclaim that saving lives is at the core of their mission. We all can applaud and agree on that. Life is precious. And each of us can name at least one life we want to protect.

But protecting what we love sometimes requires that good people stand against predators and murderers with the very tools that MDA, Everytown, and Giffords vilify: guns. People who understand that reality dedicate their own time, money, and energy to training themselves and others to be safe and responsible gun owners.

The Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) has begun accepting applications and evaluating discharging individuals on their eligibility to receive a restoration of rights certificate in the State of Wyoming.

The WDOC is able to begin this process due to a change in Wyoming Statute §7-13-105 that went into effect July 1, 2023, which allows individuals that are convicted as a first time, non-violent felon, to have their right to vote, along with the rights lost as outlined in W.S. §6-10-106 to be restored. The rights restored under W.S. §7-13-105 include the ability to be an elector or juror or to hold any office of honor, trust or profit within this state or to use or knowingly possess any firearm.

Sweeping gun control legislation proposed in Massachusetts appears to be stuck in the State House while continuing to draw vocal opposition from Second Amendment advocates.

The controversial 142-page bill, House Docket 4420, was initially filed on June 26. So far, 30 state lawmakers have signed on as petitioners.

Provisions of the proposed legislation seek to crack down on various loopholes, like the one allowing assault rifles manufactured before the state's ban to be legally purchased.

First-of-its-Kind Lawsuit Tests Gun Makers’ Foreign Immunity

American gun manufacturers’ immunity from lawsuits by other countries for the criminal misuse of weapons on foreign soil hangs on whether the First Circuit allows a lawsuit brought by Mexico to move forward.

Mexico’s first-of-its-kind challenge against firearm giants—among them Smith & Wesson Brands Inc., Glock Inc., and Beretta USA Corp.—accuses the manufacturers of facilitating gun trafficking across the US border to drug cartels in Mexico.

That type of claim would typically be blocked under the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which shields US gun manufacturers from lawsuits over the criminal misuse of their products.

A lawsuit challenging Florida’s law banning rifle and shotgun purchases by adults 18 to 20 years of age is set to be heard by the full 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. On March 9, a three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit Court had upheld Florida’s under-21 gun purchase ban. But on July 16, the court vacated that decision and announced that it would take up the legal battle en banc, meaning the full court will soon hear arguments concerning the law.

The case, National Rifle Association v. Bondi, challenges the law that was hastily passed and then signed into law by then-Gov. Rick Scott following a tragic mass murder at a school in Parkland, Florida. The NRA filed the lawsuit shortly after the law was passed.
