This story paints a picture of county and city governments as being "wronged" and valiantly defending their "right" to have local ordinances. Local law firms say they will file suits based upon property-rights arguments. Landlords think they are entitled to write firearm bans into their leases.

We wouldn't want anyone but the landed gentry to be able to defend themselves, would we?

"On July 1, 2003, three days before Pennsylvanians were to begin celebrating our Independence from tyrannical British rule, 13 members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives introduced a bill that would give law enforcement the authority to confiscate all handguns in private possession, unless they are approved by a newly created Handgun Standard Commission. The catch 22 is that no handgun currently manufactured today will be able to comply with the standards outlined in the legislation that this Commission must use to approve handgun sales. These standard(s) will require that the only handguns that will be permitted to be owned will be of the so-called personalized-smart guns design, and no existing handgun will be permitted to be modified."

We have to continue to take personal responsibility, even when life is uncomfortable. "Burbank began as two Spanish land grants that became a sheep ranch. Today it is an incorporated city of 100,000 with a total size of just more than 17 square miles. The studios, Griffith Park Zoo, and many other attractions and homes are located in the lovely downtown area, but on the northeast side of the city are the Verdugo Mountains, which rise up to 1,000 feet. Over seven miles long and three miles wide (at their widest), the Verdugos are part of the San Gabriel Mountains, and home to some 500 deer, as well as numerous rabbits, quail, and coyotes. Until this spring, these animals have been legal game for archers."

"Last fall, however, some hikers complained about seeing bowhunters in the Verdugos. Their concerns led the Burbank city council to forbid anyone 'but a peace officer or animal control officer' acting in the line of duty from shooting arrows in the city limits except at archery ranges, although there are none."

Weinsteins decision to follow a 12-member advisory jury panels recommendation to exonerate manufacturers and distributors of firearms in a case brought by the NAACP to a Brooklyn Federal courthouse.
