A new survey among likely voters in 18 key battleground states found the number one reason for firearm ownership is for protection and that most are opposed to arbitrary gun bans. The survey results, released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation on Monday, found that more than half believe self-defense is the primary motivation for firearm ownership. Moreover, almost 60 percent said that a ban on semi-automatic rifles would have little effect on crime, with 51 percent opposing a ban on such firearms. Just under half said a restriction on magazine capacity would have no effect on crime.

The Second Amendment Foundation and Illinois State Rifle Association today filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking to force the Illinois State Police (ISP) to comply with the mandated 30-day requirement to issue a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card if the applicant meets all qualifications. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, on behalf of D’Andre Bradley, David D. Moore and Tara D. Moore, and Brett O. Shelton. They are represented by attorneys David G. Sigale of Wheaton, Ill., Gregory A. Bedell of Chicago, and Jacob Huebert of Phoenix, Ariz. The case is supported by the Goldwater Institute. The lawsuit is known as Bradley v. Kelly.

Pistol-caliber carbines is a firearm niche I’ve overlooked in the past. It always seemed to me if I could get the cartridge in a handgun there wasn’t much point to using it in a rifle. The only example I owned, long ago, was a Ruger .44 Magnum carbine. I liked its compact size and moderate weight. It was certainly more pleasant to shoot than my Ruger Super Blackhawk revolver but carbines for cartridges such as 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, .45 ACP didn’t interest me much. |

Two independent surveys released Tuesday show a majority of Americans think efforts to reduce police funding will result in a disaster producing more violent crime.
A new Rasmussen survey shows 66 percent of American adults “now oppose reducing the police budget in the community where they live to channel that money into more social services.” That percentage was up from the 59 percent revealed in early June polling, so it shows even more people have concluded that defunding police departments is a bad idea.

Deputies from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a stabbing at a residence in Mill Creek on Friday night. After further investigation, deputies learned that the incident may have occurred out of self defense. Johnston County Undersheriff Gary Dodd said deputies responded to the scene at around 10 p.m. and quickly secured the area. A female subject was reportedly detained in order to allow a safe approach for EMS and fire personnel to treat the individual that had been stabbed.

Look at us. Consider Los Angeles, Oakland, Boston, New York City, Trenton, and Baltimore. For good reason, each would call themselves a Democrat-controlled city. They have not had a Republican majority on their city councils in decades. Despite their words to the contrary, these cities are openly racist when it comes to fundamental human rights. The political left doesn’t want to talk about it, but it is strikingly easy to prove. Discover it for yourself if you have doubts. Try to get a permit to legally carry a firearm in those cities. The results in those cities are consistently shocking.

Benton County justices of the peace expect more than the usual number of public comments when they discuss a resolution supporting law enforcement and one supporting the Bill of Rights. The Quorum Court’s Committee of the Whole is expected to consider the two items tonight. The meeting will be at the Benton County Fairgrounds auditorium to accommodate the expected crowd and to maintain social distancing. |

For five years, I served my country honorably as a U.S. Marine, but as I transition back into civilian society, I find law and order at the mercy of the masses and my right to bear arms stalled due to insufficient government oversight and bureaucracy. Just like all citizens in Illinois, I have to ask the government for permission to buy or possess any kind of firearm by applying for a state license, known as a firearm owner’s identification (FOID) card. Illinois is one of only two states with this requirement. (The other is Massachusetts.) As if having to beg the state to exercise my constitutional right isn’t bad enough, Illinois isn’t following its own law and is failing to issue cards to people who qualify.
