"Scores of criminal defendants around the nation have asked federal courts to dismiss gun charges against them based on the Justice Department's recently revised position on the scope of the Second Amendment."

"The new position, that the Constitution broadly protects the rights of individuals to own guns, replaced the view, endorsed by the great majority of courts, that the amendment protects a collective right of the states to maintain militias."

"While the challenges have been rejected by trial court judges, based largely on appeals court precedent, supporters and opponents of broad antigun laws say the arguments have forced the Justice Department to take contradictory stances."

"For the first time in my life as a public figure, I am afraid to write or say those things most pressing on my mind."

"It’s hard to imagine that as an American and a lover of freedom, sitting here in the wake of Independence day, I am actually terrified at some level to put words and thoughts into print for fear of where it might lead."

"The Bush administration which I eagerly supported and gladly welcomed as a sign of political refreshment after 8 years of lies and scandals during the Clinton years is now beginning to look more and more like a threat to our nation and all that we believe in."

"Recognizing a need to protect the interests of America’s outdoor sportsmen, a bipartisan group of U.S. Congressmen created the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) in 1989. In order to create a link between the CSC and outdoor sportsmen, the sporting industry, and conservation organizations, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) was founded shortly after the creation of the CSC. The CSF has now unveiled an online survey, HunterAccess.com, to gather input from sportsmen on access to federal public lands."

"The victim, who did not know Magirl, decided to fight her attacker. She wrestled the handgun away from him and fired it three times, hitting him twice in the upper torso, Saenz said."

"Magirl died at the scene. The woman suffered minor injuries."

Note: Contrary to what Sarah Brady & VPC would have you believe, victim takes gun from thug!

KABA NOTE: DO pay close attention to this quote, taken directly from this news story:

When we last reported, 13 Senators had signed their names to S. 2268—introduced by U.S. Senators Larry Craig (R-Id.) and Zell Miller (D-Ga.)—but thanks to the encouragement of NRA members and the pro-gun community, a total of 22 Senators have now signed on."

While the bill fails to make all of the changes needed to roll back oppressive anti-gun legislation imposed by the legislature in 1998, it includes several important alterations, including provisions standardizing the size of firearm carry licenses and identification cards, and it would allow citizens with motor vehicle offenses and non-violent misdemeanors to own guns."

"QUEENSLAND gun owners will be able to surrender illegal weapons without prosecution under an amnesty to start later this year."

"It will be only the second gun amnesty since 1996-97 when 130,000 weapons were handed in to Queensland authorities in the wake of tough new national gun laws following the Port Arthur massacre."

"The amnesty will require new laws to be passed in state parliament and is expected to run for three months."

"Premier Peter Beattie said today the amnesty provided a unique opportunity for affected firearm owners to do the right thing."

QUESTION: What would 'the right thing' consist of if these firearms owners are patriots?

"The gun culture of places such as Jamaica being transferred to the UK has also led to calls for changes in the law which could clamp down on replica guns and result in stiffer sentences for possessing firearms."

CONSIDER... This report also includes a picture of a large quantity of heroin -- THIRTY TONS! -- that was confiscated by the authorities. "Deena Gilbey's husband, Paul, described as a true hero because he helped evacuate his co-workers and stayed behind to rescue others, was a currency broker with EuroBrokers on the 84th floor of the World Trade Center's south tower."

Tomorrow, will it be "Man mangled beyond recognition and nearly decapitated"?

If you missed yesterday's KABA Newslinks and thus missed out on this gruesome tale of horror, here is the sum total of this "man hurt" "injury" as reported in both yesterday and today's report:

"A shooter was struck in the arm by a brass bullet casing when his weapon misfired..."

Another report in today's Newslinks gives a different description, which suggests more injury -- but if this is all this news reporter had to go on, why is this a headline issue?

ORIGINAL TITLE: POLICE MILK FLOAT IS A 'LAUGHING STOCK'

"In the days of stun-guns, helicopters and high-tech gadgetry, London police say they are being humiliated by the milkfloat they have been given to tackle criminals."

"Officers who patrol Kew Gardens yesterday claimed their electric buggy, which can reach speeds of 10mph, has made them a 'laughing stock'."

"Police complained that even children and OAPs have been pointing and jeering at them as they take to their beat."

"The £14,000 four-seater van is painted green with two blue lights. But members of the Royal Botanic Gardens Constabulary say it is an embarrassment."

"Fox network executives aren't going to make any apologies for the level of violence in their new undercover police series 'Fastlane'."

"It's something we have to be cautious about," Fox Entertainment president Gail Berman said yesterday at the Television Critics Association press tour. "But you have to remember we asked the creators to put together for us a new 21st century police drama. And I believe we need to press the envelope in a lot of different areas in order to succeed."

"Aside from a fair amount of gunplay and bloodshed, there is a scene where a man punches a woman in the face several times, which one reporter suggested was gratuitous."

"A brief cease-fire also was called after one participant was injured when an MG-42 round exploded outside its chamber. The brass shell lodged deep in the biceps of Jim Wilkinson, came to the expo from Connecticut."

"I've been shot before, when I was younger. It's no big deal," Wilkinson said as he walked to the ambulance with a smile.

"It's equivalent to a smashed thumb," Sturk said. "People like to blow it all out of proportion 'cause it happened with a gun."

Some idiot down in Florida allegedly "shot up a Riviera Beach apartment complex Saturday with an AK-47 assault rifle."

Or, as this report describes the rifle: "a weapon so powerful its bullets can punch through concrete."

A single shot .22 short can punch through concrete, too -- a sixteenth-of-an-inch thick slab is no match for that much incredibly lethal and alarming dangerous firepower. And just imagine how many of those Concrete Assault Weapons we own.

Now that the secret is out, no concrete will ever be safe again.

With all of the talk about giving 8 or 9 million illegal Mexican "immigrants" citizenship -- while legal immigrants go through the legal citizenship process like, well, legal immigrants -- perhaps it's a good idea to start looking at some of who we're talking about more closely.

It's been reported -- here and elsewhere -- that many, many illegal Mexican "immigrants" are felons in their own third world country. Here's a snapshot of one of our future "citizens" if some legislators have their way. Read between the lines and relate what situations like this will do to the right to keep and bear arms if allowed to fester. ...

"Superior Police have 'no clue' what the alleged drug dealer’s name is, but they arrested him and booked him into the Pinal County Jail last week on a long list of felony charges."

"According to police, on Saturday, July 6, a witness reported that a Hispanic man who was driving a blue Ford Crown Victoria pointed a gun at a man and a boy who were walking down Stone Avenue."

"The car was located at a residence in the 500 block of Ray Road. The suspect, a Mexican national from Sinaloa, attempted to flee through a rear door, but was caught and subdued by an officer stationed outside."

"An ARMED robber shoved a handgun into the faces of two staff in a raid on a late-night convenience store."

"Witnesses then reported hearing a gunshot as the raider fled the store after stealing cash from the tills."

Said the unarmed peasant-victim the reporter calls a "Security Guard":

"He just seemed to run into the shop from nowhere. It was just me and a female shop assistant working - we were terrified. He leant over the counter, shoving the gun to our faces, forcing us against the wall. He asked for the money from the tills. We just did what he said."

Didn't anti-rights communist Hollyweird actor Alec Baldwin tell us he was going to live in the UK if Bush won the Presidency? Maybe he can protect these serfs.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There are other things so clearly out of the power of Congress, that the bare recital of them is sufficient, I mean the "...rights of bearing arms for defence, or for killing game..." These things seem to have been inserted among their objections, merely to induce the ignorant to believe that Congress would have a power over such objects and to infer from their being refused a place in the Constitution, their intention to exercise that power to the oppression of the people. —ALEXANDER WHITE (1787)
