Public policies matter. There is a real cost when public officials get it wrong. Sometimes the price is paid with our children’s blood. Politicians say that young lives matter. Talk is cheap, particularly a politician’s promise. The Bridgeport, Connecticut School Board stopped paying for armed school safety officers.
Political correctness leaves our children at risk. Sadly, politics kills. |

Republican voters in a new congressional district north of Charlotte had a wealth of choices in last month’s primary: 17 candidates, including four legislators and several other familiar names from past races.
Voters, instead, picked one of the greenest of them. Gun store owner Ted Budd is in his first race for elected office.
Budd’s lack of political experience seemed to work the same magic it has for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. The conservative Club for Growth Action invested $500,000 in TV spots that helped Budd beat his closest rival by a nearly 2-1 margin. |

Ohio’s open-carry law tends to be pretty good. But the police union in Cleveland wanted it suspended for the Republican Party’s convention. However, Ohio Governor John Kasich, who has a checkered past on Second Amendment issues (notably by support for the semi-auto ban that Bill Clinton pushed through in 1994), made the right call this time. In a statement, Kasich, said, “Ohio governors do not have the power to arbitrarily suspend federal and state constitutional rights or state laws as suggested.”

Most notable was the 2015 legislative session, when lawmakers — including Patrick and Abbott — enthusiastically approved the open carry of handguns by licensed Texans despite opposition by many of the state's law enforcement officials.
As the 2017 legislative session approaches, law enforcement groups say they'll be asking lawmakers to consider revising the open carry law, as well as looking at restoring funding for programs that help police do their jobs.
...
The Texas Republican Party's platform may foreshadow a new open carry fight next year. The state's dominant party urges passage of “constitutional carry” legislation, which would remove many restrictions on accessing and keeping firearms. |

An Ohio man who was refused a gun purchase was told by Second Amendment groups to be patient and see what happens with the stagnant appeals process or to hire a lawyer.
He went with the latter.
Gregory Ledet tried to purchase a firearm through a licensed dealer on Feb. 27 and his National Instant Criminal Background Check System check – also known as NICS and performed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation – came back denied. After a week of effort to find out why he was turned down, the FBI informed Ledet that he was a prohibited firearms possessor. |

Not a single European citizen with whom I discussed current events – college students, hotel clerks, bus drivers, university professors and people in pubs – demonstrated the slightest bit of annoyance at being denied the "freedom" of instantaneous access to high-powered firearms. Rather, to a person, they expressed wonder at our enslavement to and acquiescence of a violent gun culture that claims tens of thousands of innocent lives each year. |

The quintessential American semi-automatic handgun, the 1911, was designed by John Moses Browning and has served U.S. military/law-enforcement personnel and civilians for more than a century, and it’s still going strong. As a rockstar of the service-pistol world, the 1911’s popularity is also apparent by numerous manufacturers that produce their own versions of iconic “Old Slabsides.” Available in several calibers and configurations—from stock versions to highly customized works of art—only your imagination (and budget) need dictate the type you want to buy. In its century-plus of service, virtually every conceivable redesign, modification or tweak has probably been developed or attempted. |

The Second Amendment Foundation today condemned attempts by the agenda-driven media, led by CBS, to provide cover for Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton’s war on gun rights by trying to debunk Republican Donald Trump’s statement Thursday night that Clinton “wants to essentially abolish the Second Amendment.”
“CBS News and others argue that Trump’s allegation is not true, and that ‘Clinton has spoken up for Second Amendment rights on several occasions,’” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “They are being disingenuous at best, and they know it. |

Gun control has been a divisive topic in American discourse lately, and as Elam discussed the pros and cons of gun control she offered the opinion that guns are not needed, even for self defense.
“So, about gun control. It’s a hot topic nowadays. The pros of gun control are less guns mean a safer world, ” said Elam. “Gun control laws are correlated to lower rates of violence. Guns are not needed to defend against government. The key to protecting our society is information, and guns are not needed, even for self defense.” |

Logan Keeling knew exactly what he wanted for his 18th birthday.
The Hanover native purchased his first rifle, a Diamondback DB-15, on his special day as a gift to himself. The AR-15-style gun, he feels, is a sport and competition rifle, and can also be used for self-defense. He feels strongly about his right to own one.
But, following several recent mass shootings involving gunmen using AR-15-style weapons, some people have challenged the need for civilians, like Keeling, to own this style of rifle. |

Mobile Police Department said three armed robbers, Deidra White, 24, Donald Denson, 19 and Eddie Hardy, 19, broke into an apartment in an apparent armed robbery attempt. The tenant heard the home intruders and grabbed his firearm for self defense. After a confrontation and a shootout in the apartment, the intruders fled on foot.
But not without a little parting gift for their efforts.
Hardy, who suffered a gunshot wound courtesy of the armed (and obviously better trained) tenant, was driven to a local hospital by his partners in crime where police say he died from his injuries. |

A 35-year-old homeowner from Hyvinkaa, Finland, was sentenced to four years and two months in prison for fighting off three intruders who attempted a home invasion in April.
The homeowner must also pay the intruders, who got shorter prison sentences, $23,000 in damages, notes RT.
The intruders -- two men and one woman -- reportedly entered the man's house with baseball bats and a gun, but the homeowner made it to his kitchen and grabbed a knife and fight off the criminals.
According to Helsinki news, the homeowner was convicted of "excessive self-defense and attempted manslaughter" after a nearly four-month court case. |

Callaway, who grew up around guns and is president of the school’s Students for the Second Amendment club, first sensed the campus-wide opposition to her hobby when the group applied for an extracurricular grant for ammunition. They were denied, then appealed and eventually received a $500 stipend. The victory was short-lived, however, as outraged students successfully pressed school officials to explicitly prohibit ammo funding going forward.
“The majority of our student body does not support our group,” Callaway told FoxNews.com, adding that classmates perceive members of the club as “crazy gun kids” who intend to “shoot up the school.” |

Massachusetts gun dealers sold more than 2,000 military-style rifles Wednesday — nearly one-quarter of the total sold last year — after Attorney General Maura Healey moved to bar semiautomatic rifles that have been altered slightly to evade the state’s assault weapons ban.
The 2,251 assault rifles snapped up in a gun-buying frenzy represented a remarkable uptick from the 132 sold Tuesday and the 51 sold Monday, before Healey announced her ban. The numbers were first reported by Commonwealth Magazine.
By Thursday, sales had slowed but were still above normal: 143 assault weapons were sold statewide, despite Healey’s edict, according to the state Firearms Records Bureau. |

California Governor Jerry Brown signed a law which would require individuals to apply for a state-issued firearm registration number where they made their own weapons with parts they have purchased or found. Assembly Bill 857 will allow the state to keep track of weapons that individuals make on their own, furthering California's strict stance on gun-control. Over the past month, Brown has signed into law a variety of restrictions on guns, including a ban on semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines and background checks for individuals purchasing ammunition. |

Open carry in Cleveland Ohio at the Republican National Convention has been hyped by those that want to disarm the population. A scam petition was created to open carry inside the convention floor. It was run by a “progressive” to create problems for Second Amendment supporters. It did not last for long or fool many. The Quicken Loans location is a private concern.
Then the head of the Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Association published a hysterical rant about how the Constitution need not apply. He wanted the citizenry disarmed. |
