According to the leader of an Iowa Boy Scout troop, a series of unfortunate events ended with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer drawing his gun on one of the Scouts as the group attempted to cross into Alaska from Canada for a trip. The initial offense? One Boy Scout allegedly took a photograph of an officer. Speaking to Iowa TV station KCCI about the incident, Boy Scout Troop 111 Leader Jim Fox said a single photograph from one of the troop members prompted the Border Patrol to detain the entire group of travelers, which included scouts, troop leaders, and volunteers.

They came to the wrong house to do a B & E (break and enter) that night and they most certainly frightened and roughed up the wrong 80-year old man.
For one of the invader-robbers that night, a woman, it was indeed a fatal error in the victim selection process.
Tom Greer, an 80-year-old retiree arrived at his home in Long Beach Tuesday night to find a man and a woman in the middle of a late night break in, ransacking the place.
Greer told L.A.'s KNBC-TV as soon as he got inside both robbers tackled him, "Both of them jumped up on top of me," after they threw him to the ground he said. |

He would do anything to protect them, and such was the case Tuesday afternoon when police said a driver came speeding through the parking lot of the South Rutherford Walmart, almost hitting his 6-year-old son.
"I had my 1-year-old daughter on my neck and when I saw my son run by, I reached out and grabbed him and told her she needed to slow down," Hill said.
Those words must have struck a chord with the suspect.
"She leaned out and showed a handgun to me and said, ‘I will shoot you,'" Hill said. "I said, 'Go ahead and shoot me and if I live, I'll call the cops,' and she said, ‘I don't care, I have a gun carry permit.'" |

Indianapolis residents alone hold nearly 10 percent of the state’s conceal-carry permits. With the growing number of people with guns, there is also growing concern they might get into the hands of people who shouldn’t possess a weapon.
At the Indy Trading Post on the city's south side, the growing homicide rate continues to drive the sales of guns and ammunition. |

Playing poker with Lynne Veronda can be a little intimidating. It’s not her poker face, although she has practiced it. And she’s not necessarily a card sharp, but she is a sharpshooter.
Veronda, an instructor at San Rafael’s Bullseye Indoor Shooting Range, regularly competes in “poker tournaments” that play right into her skills with a gun. Competing in a poker tournament with Veronda at the range involves target shooting at a deck of cards to get a winning hand. It’s similar to a bar scene in a wild west movie, where two cowboys compete to shoot the ace dead center. |

The city of Philadelphia was hoping that publishing the names of people whose gun permits were denied or revoked would increase transparency — instead it led to a million-dollar lawsuit. The city settled the class-action lawsuit regarding the disclosure of allegedly confidential Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms (LTCF) information for $1.425 million with approximately 3,265 current or former LTCF applicants. |

The St. James School District approved an update to its board policy July 18 that would allow the school district, if it saw fit, to arm teachers as “school protection officers.”
“What the policy does, is it puts the decision in the school’s hands if they felt like it was necessary,” Assistant Superintendent Linda Pruett said. “As approved it allows the decision to remain in local control.”
The policy, number 1432, was one of several updates recommended by the district’s counsel Missouri Consultants for Education following the close of the legislative session. However, it was not one of the required policy changes among the list of updates. |

In point of fact, it would leave your laws stricter than mine. While someone in Kenton County is required to get a license to carry a concealed and deadly weapon, no such requirement exists in the federal laws Massie would leave us.
Why this sudden interest the District of Columbia? Because he can. Through an accident of history, D.C. is, by the Constitution, not a state. Massie cites Article 1, Section 8, clause 17, which grants Congress "exclusive jurisdiction" over the District. |

But, I simply can't figure out, for the life of me, what anyone would want with a silencer, I mean other than an assassination attempt. I guess there could be an argument made for staying as quiet as possible while hunting to avoid spooking other game nearby, but even that seems like a reach.
There are plenty of good arguments made by those who collect weapons of all kinds for why they need or want them. I still have a hard time being convinced an assault rifle is something any non-military personnel member needs for any reason, but tack on a silencer and I am going to assume you are training to be a covert agent. I can find no other good reason for sticking a muzzle on the end of any weapon, let alone an AK. |

Talk about a shotgun proposal; A man packing his hunting gun takes to the streets, to make a statement about the second amendment. With his shotgun on his back, and his girlfriend on his side, Colton Truitt says he's trying to send a message.
It's all about the second amendment, and he wants to make a point that open carry is legal in Nebraska, and the shotgun apparently conveys the message louder than the sign he crafted with a $1 Sharpie and 33 cent poster board. |

After dealing with some intense battles last year on Capitol Hill over gun control, the NRA has had a relatively quiet year politically. But that hasn't stopped the organization from spending some big bucks to curry political favor, both in Washington and among the general population.
The National Rifle Association Freedom Action Foundation, a special contributions fund for the NRA, launched a national voter registration campaign called "Trigger the Vote," with every-man Chuck Norris as "Honorary Chairman." |

In the 10th Congressional District, Jody Hice handily defeated his opponent and will face nominal opposition in November. Jody is a great friend of the Second Amendment, and thanks to the support of people like you, GOA was able to flood the airwaves and mailboxes with his pro-gun message.
Georgia’s 10th District had been represented by GOA Life Member Paul Broun, who was chairman of the U.S. House Second Amendment Task Force and a leading voice in protecting your gun rights. That’s why when Mr. Broun stepped down, it was imperative that we fill his seat with someone who would step in and fight just as vigorously for the right to keep and bear arms. |

In case you missed it, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) attacked your Gun Owners of America late last week.
In doing so, Maloney called for Capitol Hill law enforcement to investigate GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt for saying that the Second Amendment is “for restraining tyrannical tendencies in government … especially those in the liberal, tyrannical end of the spectrum.”
In turn, author David Codrea of the Gun Rights Examiner blasted Maloney for her ignorance of the Constitution and for spurning our founding documents. He even went so far as to say that if Maloney is going to investigate Pratt, then she’d better start investigating other gun owners, too. |

These private additions to the public turn-in are effective, no doubt, in getting more guns off the street, because they add to the resources that are available to those who want to get rid of guns for something of value, be it a grocery card or a number of twenty dollar bills.
You can help make the turn-in in your area more effective by standing on the curb with your “Cash for Guns” sign, or at a folding table, willing to offer more than the gift card for firearms that are more valuable. It would be best if numerous private parties were available, as more good guns could then be transferred into responsible hands. |

Massachusetts police chiefs have long had wide discretion in handing out licenses for handguns, but a provision in a gun control bill on Beacon Hill would expand that authority to include non-large capacity long guns as well. The change is widely supported by the law enforcement community, but the two chambers of the Legislature are at odds over it, with the House in support and the Senate opposed.
Police chiefs from across the state lined up on the stairs of the State House on Tuesday to rail against the Senate for stripping the provision from it’s version of the bill, with Boston Police Commissioner William Evans saying he was “really disappointed” with the body. |

Anti-gun activists in Ontario, Canada are looking to confiscate cars illegally carrying handguns. Liberal Party Member of Provincial Parliament Mike Colle proposed legislation yesterday to add firearms possession to the "anti stunt racing" provisions of the traffic code that allow vehicles to be confiscated on the word of an officer who says they were speeding.

One state that is poised to make bank off of anti-gun laws? Tennessee, the new home of Italian-based Beretta.
Beretta announced this week its decision to leave Maryland, where governor (and 2016 presidential hopeful) Martin O’Malley is leading an anti-gun crusade.
The Maryland House of Delegates was able to block some of the most pernicious anti-gun laws being pushed by O’Malley and others, but the company said ”the possibility that such restrictions might be reinstated in the future leaves us very worried about the wisdom of maintaining a firearm manufacturing factory in the state.” |
