While America’s 1st Freedom readers are well aware of the National Rifle Association’s all-important political advocacy that has saved the Second Amendment time and time again over the past several decades, many may not be as familiar with the tens of thousands of NRA-certified instructors spread out across America. |

Mention the words “Smith & Wesson revolver,” and most of us immediately think of a five- or six-shot wheelgun with a swing-out cylinder and an under-barrel lug. But just as there are people today who have never known a world without computers, there was a time when this now-ubiquitous revolver shape simply didn’t exist. In fact, until the beginning of the last century, most handgun loading and unloading was done one cartridge at a time via a relatively slow, flip-open gate method, or by a multiple-cartridge top-break system, whereby the barrel pivoted on a hinge to extract or reload a cylinder full of cartridges. |

I observed an advanced training course for armed defenders in school. Some of the problems these defenders wrestle with are beyond what most of us have to consider. On the other hand, some of their concerns are ones we face every day.
Everyone wonders what to do. Should we try and escape, should defend where we are, or should we advance?

When Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-MD) commented about the way so-called “MAGA Republicans” were pressing their investigation of Hunter Biden’s favorable treatment by the Justice Department in a June plea agreement, it was just the latest attempted smear of the opposing party and, by default, the millions of conservative citizens who believe this nation can be what Ronald Reagan called the “Shining City on a Hill.” |

Handgun cartridge naming is an aspect of firearm ownership that can be confusing to new shooters at first – and if you decide to get yourself a full-size Sig Sauer 1911 or Glock 21, you might note on the barrel that it says, “45 Auto.” Excited to get some ammo for your new sidearm, you peruse the gun store shelves and are dismayed to only find boxes labeled, “45 ACP.” |

The San Francisco County Board of Supervisors has backed down on a proposed ordinance that would make much of the city into a “gun-free zone” after the Second Amendment Foundation and California Rifle & Pistol Association promised legal action. The proposal was championed by Supervisor Catherine Stefani, who essentially tabled the motion indefinitely after bemoaning the 2023 Supreme Court Bruen decision, which is giving gun control proponents fits while jarring the San Francisco Police Department to start issuing carry permits. |

To some questions, the better answer is yet another question: “Why not?” To shooters, that’s usually an appropriate response to their reason for buying “x” firearm. However, many of us are overlooking a pretty popular design in the pistol caliber carbine, or PCC. |
