"A police officer's order to 'stop' must be obeyed on the street and can only be challenged in court, the state Supreme Court ruled Monday."
"Even an unconstitutional order cannot be challenged by running away, the justices ruled 5-2." "The decision affirmed Saleem Crawley's conviction on a charge of obstructing a public servant from performing his official duties by fleeing."
"In March 2002, Crawley fled after two Newark police officers, acting on a tip about a man with a gun, encountered him outside a bar. After receiving a dispatcher's description of the gunman, the officers determined that Crawley 'matched exactly.'"
"Crawley, who was caught after a foot chase, had no weapon but was later convicted for running away." |

"This amendment, as written by James Madison is made up of two couplets of two clauses The first couplet states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state ..." The second couplet states '...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.'"
"Why did Madison and the members of the First Congress choose these particular words? What did they hope to accomplish and just what 'right' were they trying to protect?"
"The best answer is that we just don't know for sure, because there is no record of the debate leading to the adoption of this or any other of the nine amendments, nor did the authors provide us with annotated copies to explain what they were intending." |

"Congress doesn't need to act to protect the self-defense rights of citizens. The Second Amendment already does and THAT is the ultimate and final solution. If the American people continue to allow Congress to pass more 'new' legislation regarding restrictions, conditions or threatening to withhold funds regarding the Second Amendment, the end result will be more of the same. More anti-gun laws and more unconstitutional meddling by the federal machine. If we don't go after the solution, the problem will only continue to be treated with more 'pro' Second Amendment bills that are absolutely unnecessary; see here. How can you possibly expect to limit federal encroachment if you keep asking Congress to pass more laws? Think about it." |

"Gun-owning parents who think their children don't know where firearms are kept or haven't handled the weapons without permission may be in for a disturbing surprise."
"A recent study involving 201 parents and an equal number of their children has found that 39 percent of kids knew the location of their parents' firearms, while 22 percent said they had handled the weapons, despite their parents' assertions to the contrary. Parents who had talked to their children about gun safety were just as likely to be misinformed about their children's actions as those who said they never had discussed the matter." |

"Most of us who live in Africa understand the need to control small arms, because we have witnessed first hand the wreckage that these weapons bring - in the Sudan, in the DRC, in Sierra Leone, in Angola - and in our own country. Nothing demonstrated this better than the recent killing of four police officers in Jeppestown."
"Despite this setback, there has been very positive forward movement. The conference heard that over the past five years, up to 70% of states have worked to strengthen their gun laws as one way of combating the illegal trade in arms."
"Gun control, then, is now widely recognised as a common-sense response to the illegal gun trade, and increasingly, it is becoming the norm." |

"Shooting has long had a difficult image in Britain. But that doesn't deter the hundreds of men, women and children who, every year, plan to spend their summer holidays on a huge rifle range, complete with chalets and caravans." ...
"Compared with other sports, shooting has a complex image, seen through strange prisms. The tightening of gun control laws after the Dunblane massacre carried out by Thomas Hamilton, a gun club member, has affected perception of the sport. And the British perception of America's gun culture also inevitably bleeds over." |
