Born from a violent revolution, the U.S. constitution ensures that gun ownership is a fundamental right. Today, there are more than 7.5 million gun stores in the United States, and 29.1% of American adults own at least one firearm of some kind. While the second amendment grants U.S. citizens the right to own guns, federal laws also restrict certain people from buying firearms. |

Seacoast gun clubs are reporting a spike in memberships, while club officials say calls for gun control and high-profile shootings motivate some new applicants. Most clubs offer safety classes and members have access to shooting ranges for target practice, sighting hunting rifles, camaraderie and to try other members' guns. Tim Copeland, president of the Exeter Sportsman's Club, said recent requests for membership at his club have more than doubled. |

Only in America can a Socialist politician feel sure that his lies will go unquestioned by the news media. Our President finds it easy to lie, but difficult to reach an obvious truth. Too many Americans believe these lies, both from the President and our media. Those lies are getting Americans killed.
Here are eight years of examples. The American news media will never call President Obama a liar, but I will. I’ve shown you that he is. |

If you were thinking you’ve seen the Warne name in “First Gear” before, you’d be correct: We’ve been fans for a long time. We use and recommend them in a way that can only be described as profligate—chiefly because they work. The ever-helpful folks at Brownells, however, have put a new variant in our hands. With several departures from what’s de rigueur in upscale rings, we were glad to oblige with a careful look.

A new poll shows that Americans generally support tougher gun laws, but behind that support are deep divisions based on political party, geography, race and gender. The support for tighter gun laws also has clear limits. Americans broadly oppose a mandatory gun buyback program, do not want to ban handguns and do not believe gun manufacturers should be held liable when their products are later used in a crime.

Within hours of the recent ambush killings of five Dallas police officers — and again 10 days later, when three Baton Rouge officers were killed — messages of respect and support for law enforcement coursed through the nation's social media, filled the airwaves and prompted countless press releases. As politicians nationwide rushed to reiterate their support for police, Texas elected officials figured prominently in the calls for a greater societal embrace of officers and more protections for first responders who perform some of the toughest jobs.

I’m the mayor of a small Midwestern city and I’m at my wit’s end about guns. My first job is to help keep my city safe, but two recent events showed me the limits of what I can do.
Item 1: On a beautiful day this summer, our public swimming pool was full of kids taking lessons and their families enjoying the sun. A man arrived and walked around the pool, with a handgun visible on his hip. He was not a law enforcement officer in uniform. Just a parent, it seemed, unknown to most there, walking around the pool, packing a pistol. No one had any idea if it was loaded or not. You can imagine the stress and worry this led to, with the memories of Orlando (and San Bernardino and Charleston and Newtown and on and on) fresh in people’s minds

Thomas Bock cannot remember when there wasn’t a gun range at his family’s Twin Sisters Road property. He said there were always groups of shooters coming up to the club to fire rifles and handguns. He also has a surveyor’s map that shows that a Twin Sisters Gun Club has existed at the site since as early as 1951, and he believes that it may go back to 1947.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
No kingdom can be secured otherwise than by arming the people. The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave. He, who has nothing, and who himself belongs to another, must be defended by him, whose property he is, and needs no arms. But he, who thinks he is his own master, and has what he can call his own, ought to have arms to defend himself, and what he possesses; else he lives precariously, and at discretion. — James Burgh, Political Disquisitions: Or, an Enquiry into Public Errors, Defects, and Abuses [London, 1774-1775]. |
