NEWINGTON -- Frustrated by heavy taxation, some residents here are ready to secede from the state of New Hampshire.
"The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind," reads the constitution.
Resident Guy Young said the state has used the constitution to oppress property-rich towns like Newington. "We found something we could use against them," he said. |

"We all know why so many law-abiding Americans own guns: Some buy them for protection against crime. Others collect them as objets d'art. Some love to hunt or target shoot. But two Ohio State University researchers argue there's another significant factor behind America's infatuation with firearms: Many Americans who own guns don't trust the federal government." -Report by Richard Morin |

Not gun related, but gun-grabber related: Feinstein says if the airline industry will not limit passengers' alcohol consumption, she will.
My favorite part is the airlines' response:"This particular proposal represents poor public policy that would unfairly and unilaterally penalize the hundreds of millions of law-abiding, cooperative passengers simply because of the disruptive and unruly and oftentimes illegal conduct of a few."
Read the article: it sounds EXACTLY like the gun debate. |

"The right of self-defense cannot be abridged. It cannot be restricted or prohibited."
"This right has been granted to every living thing by a higher authority than man."
"To us, their [criminals' guns] existence is unknown, their location unknown. They are impossible to confiscate. This is a situation that requires an iron stomach and a determination to obey only 'the law of survival,' not the dictates of small minds."

This article is called "Guns audit needed for safety." Ha ha ha! For safety of government troopers, maybe.
"In WA [West Australia], the police plan to compile an accurate database that will allow them to match guns with owners and track down thousands of automatic and semi-automatic weapons that were not handed in during the buy-back scheme. Gun owners will have to go to police stations with identification, gun licences and weapons for inspection." |

"GUNOWNERS in WA [West Auatralia] will have to carry photo licences under a police plan to crack down on people who buy ammunition illegally."
"The new plan, which comes into effect early next month, was formulated at the same time as police began a State-wide audit of the State's 85,000 gun owners and their 200,000 weapons."
"Sporting Shooters Association of Australia WA president Paul Peake said the gun lobby had no problem in principle with the change." -- what a "leader", eh? |

The Violence Policy Center (VPC) today released "Shot Full of Holes: Deconstructing John Ashcroft's Second Amendment at a Capitol Hill news conference."
The new 38-page VPC study exposes Attorney General John Ashcroft's recent letter on the Second Amendment to the National Rifle Association (NRA) as a shoddy piece of legal and historical research that completely fails to support its radical conclusion --that the Second Amendment protects an expansive individual right to keep and bear arms. |

The Smith & Wesson revolver was seized by Canadian authorities as its owner attempted to cross the border. The Canadians destroyed it as contraband. A routine case except for a couple of facts: The owner was a Seattle police officer and the gun belonged to the Seattle Police Department.

Crackdown on illegal weapons -- West Australian police have launched a firearms crackdown to flush out thousands of illegal weapons. The operation will concentrate on the State's 85,000 owners and their 200,000 weapons.
