"The Second Amendment Foundation is delighted that the judge in a Maryland case that challenges the constitutionality of that state’s handgun permitting scheme is ready to lift a stay on his original order for the state to process carry permits without a citizen having to provide a 'good and substantial reason.'"

"U.S District Judge Benson Everett Legg will lift the stay on his original order in two weeks because, in his opinion, the stay 'is not warranted.'" ...

"The problem with all of the Second Amendment discussion is that very few people are willing to address this issue directly and accurately. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to protect the right to and ability to conduct an armed revol…ution. The Second Amendment was to protect the ability of the people to violently overthrow the government."

"Even if one agrees with the 'Militia limitation' on the Second Amendment, the Militias to which the Amendment refers were State Militias which would have been used to fight the federal government." ...

"Cars aren’t really made to take you to the mall or carry you to work. Sounds stupid, I know, but think about it…if the purpose of owning a car was defined by each trip, we’d have a multitude of potentialities, one for each time you sit down and buckle up. No, the true reason cars exist is that they are vehicles, a group of machines whose purpose is to convert some sort of energy into motive power. That’s the most basic, lowest common denominator we can wrap our brains around. ... Let’s look at how this application of fundamental purpose can be applied to why we own guns . . ." ...

"David and Daniel Grinnel were recently busted for illegal gun possession in their quiet Nassau County, New York subdivision. As wnyt.com tells the story, 'They’re under arrest on federal weapons charges. Police said they found 16 long guns in their home. Some of the weapons were modified to make them illegal, including sawed off barrels, fully automatic and collapsible stocks. Police also found nine handguns and high capacity ammunition magazines. They said neither Grinnells had a New York State pistol permit.' "In response to your editorial of July 25, the phrase 'well-regulated militia' does not refer to regulations of the firearms, it refers to having the militia being provisioned and trained to be ready to use their arms. It has a similar meaning to 'properly functioning militia.' It is not a clause to destroy the meaning of the amendment, it is a justification for the rest of it, '... the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.'" ...

"There are designs that transcend time. Like the 1911 handgun. Or the early Ford F-100. Or the P-51 Mustang. They’re designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional at the same time, which is why they tend to stick around. One such design is SIG SAUER’s P226, which has been a favorite of law enforcement, military and civilian shooters since 1984. SIG recently released the version used by the Navy SEALs for civilian sale, and one email later I had a box with my name on it on the way to my FFL . . ." ...

"In the world of competitive shooting, we all know the firearm in your hand is a critical choice, but without sure footing, what good is the most skilled shooter? I’m starting at the bottom, working my way up – in all aspects of life – but today I’m specifically talking about my Nike Special Field Boots, or SFB’s. While attending Crimson Trace’s Midnight 3-Gun Invitational, I did my obligatory pass at the vendor tables. Danner displayed some stellar boots as usual; Otis and Glock also enticed me to linger a bit longer, but this time Nike SFS ('Special Field Systems') had my full attention. "My Second Amendment right to own nuclear weapons. Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?[Nope.] And yet this is the argument used by the NRA to support anybody's access to any weapons. I am one of a few who could actually design and build his own nuclear bomb. Should I be allowed to do so?[Yep] Obviously not. Can you imagine the Aurora shooter with a nuclear bomb?[Yep; he almost certainly would have killed himself in the process of trying to build it, not to mention the few hundred million the materials would have cost.]" ...

"I’ll wager that 71 people who went to a midnight showing of 'The Dark Knight Rises' in Aurora, Colo., last week didn’t realize that they were doing more than just going to a movie -- they were giving the gun lobby another chance to defend our Second Amendment rights. Twelve of them paid the ultimate sacrifice, but at least the founding fathers’ concern for arming militias could be restated. How often do these great opportunities come around?" ...

... "But the sad fact is that American society can no longer handle the responsibility of private gun ownership. We've lost whatever internal gyroscopes enabled us to monitor ourselves and our conduct. We need stronger legal controls on gun ownership, including not only background checks but mental fitness exams and mandatory training. There should be at least as much required to own a gun as there is to obtain a driver's license. Instead, even people on the government's terrorist watch list are legally able to purchase firearms." ...

"President Obama touched the sensitive issue of guns here on Wednesday, pivoting off last week’s Colorado movie theater shootings to call for a 'consensus around violence reduction' in the country." ...

"'I – like most Americans – believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms,' Obama said. 'I think we recognize the traditions of gun ownership passed on from generation to generation, that hunting and shooting are part of a cherished national heritage.'"

"'But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers and not in the hands of crooks. They belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities,' he added." ...

"The arms trade treaty being hammered out by the United Nations is nearing completion, and the current draft shows it could lead to perpetual attacks on the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment and American foreign policy, critics say."

"The document, which critics say has been framed by countries hostile to U.S. interests, allows for future amendments to be approved by just two-thirds of states showing up at an amendment conference. That means it could be agreed to by the U.S., put into effect and then changed over Washington's objections. And even if the U.S. Senate refuses to ratify it, the deal could have a huge impact on the global arms trade, where the U.S. is the biggest player." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Those, who have the command of the arms in a country are masters of the state, and have it in their power to make what revolutions they please. [Thus,] there is no end to observations on the difference between the measures likely to be pursued by a minister backed by a standing army, and those of a court awed by the fear of an armed people. — Aristotle, as quoted by John Trenchard and Water Moyle, An Argument Shewing, That a Standing Army Is Inconsistent with a Free Government, and Absolutely Destructive to the Constitution of the English Monarchy [London, 1697].
