Here is the news the mainstream media never reports. Responsible gun owners defended themselves. Instructor Robyn Street brings us three new examples.

First story-  Are you armed at church late on a Sunday night? You hear someone outside your office.  A 26 year old man with a knife comes through your door.

Second story- You're a 17 year old girl living out in the country. The police are looking for a fleeing felon in your area.

Third story- Are you armed when you’re at home just after dawn?  You hear strange sounds coming from your garage.  You open your back door to see someone sitting in your car.

What can we learn from their experience? Text and podcast available at the link. (18:16)

Modoc County prosecutors have dismissed murder charges against an Alturas man.

Christopher Brown was arrested in May of this year for stabbing and killing James Houseman.

Witnesses say the incident happened when brown and houseman were arguing over a charcoal barbecue.

Modoc County District Attorney Jordan Funk said he felt he could not disprove Brown’s claims of self-defense.

Mesa County prosecutors will not file murder charges against the man who killed 36-year-old Travis Carothers last month, based on evidence that the shooter was acting in self-defense during an armed robbery attempt.

Citing an interview that shooting suspect John Daniel Stene, 27, gave law enforcement as well as physical evidence collected at the crime scene and through Carothers’ autopsy, Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein said prosecutors believe they wouldn’t be able to prove to a jury that Stene was not acting in self-defense when he fatally shot Carothers in the 2900 block of N. View Drive late at night on June 17.

Sitting in a classroom above a gun range, a woman hesitantly says she isn’t sure she could ever shoot and kill someone, even to protect herself. Couldn’t she just aim for their leg and try to maim them?

Her instructor says self-defense is not about killing someone, but is instead about eliminating a threat.

If the gun gets taken away by a bad guy, the instructor says, “I promise you they’re not going to be having any sympathy or going through the thought process you are.”

On Tuesday, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals struck down the District of Columbia’s law requiring applicants for a concealed carry permit to demonstrate a special need for self-protection “distinguishable from the general community.”

The Supreme Court previously struck down D.C.’s ban on possession of handguns in the landmark case D.C. v. Heller (2008), and a district court invalidated D.C.’s ban on carrying handguns in Palmer v. D.C. (2014).

The right to self-defense won a victory on Tuesday after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit struck down Washington D.C’s restrictions on issuing concealed carry permits.

In the majority decision, Judge Thomas Griffith wrote “At the Second Amendment's core lies the right of responsible citizens to carry firearms for personal self-defense beyond the home", and that "The good-reason law is necessarily a total ban on most D.C. residents’ right to carry a gun in the face of ordinary self-defense needs.”

Nine months ago, Ray Furr could predict who was going to come through the door at Superior Gun & Pawn in Hampton.

It likely was someone looking for a rifle or shotgun. Many of his customers were buying the guns they always wanted, worried laws may change after the 2016 presidential election.

Now, he said he is seeing new faces. The majority of his customers are first-time buyers, women and millennials — people who, according to polls, didn't vote for President Donald Trump.

Despite decades of the reports that smart guns are based on theoretical technology that does not work in reality, leftists have gravitated to the German manufactured Armatix IP1 as the smart gun of the future.

Problem #1: A hacker at a Colorado shooting range just showed how to completely sidestep the gun’s lock mechanism via the use of $15 of magnets.

Problem #2: The same hacker showed how to the lock the gun—when it is supposed to be in fire mode—so that the gun’s owner cannot use it in self-defense.

Police said a burglar wearing a woman’s wig and arched eyebrows broke through a window of a Lithonia, Georgia, home just after 2 a.m. Monday — and was confronted by the homeowner, who was armed.

“The homeowner gave him a warning,” DeKalb County Police Lt. Lonzy Robertson told WSB-TV. “The suspect continued to approach him at which time the homeowner fired one shot.”

In a 2-1 ruling, the District of Columbia Appeals Court ruled Tuesday that Washington DC’s restrictions on carrying guns are unconstitutional.

Black women are buying guns, getting trained on them, and being really open about it. Just this week, the Associated Press profiled three such women, all of them black, and proudly boasting of newly acquired guns.

Why is this an issue? Black women are far more likely to live in neighborhoods plagued by higher than normal crime, and they suffer abuse and even death at the hands of a spouse more often than any other ethnic group, yet the AP finds it puzzling that they are buying guns?

Setting up a Remington 870 shotgun for defense is easier than you may think. Keep in mind that this gun can also be used in 3-Gun competition in the Heavy Metal Division, where the only firearms allowed are 12-gauge pump shotguns, .308 rifles and .45 ACP handguns.

For the project shotgun, I selected the Scattergun Technologies ghost ring sights with tritium inserts, a sidesaddle shell carrier, Timney sear, Vang systems oversized safety button, Magpul buttstock with spacer system and raised cheekpiece and a Surefire 6V tactical forend light. I also selected a Trulock tactical breacher combination muzzle brake and stand-off, an extended magazine tube, Kick-Eez recoil pad and opted to Mag-na-port the barrel and add a Blackhawk! sling.

The U.S. Appeals Court handed a victory to gun rights advocates seeking to overturn the District of Columbia’s strict “may-issue” policy for issuing concealed carry permits.

The three-judge panel issued a permanent injunction Tuesday prohibiting city authorities from enforcing a “good reason” test as part of its gun licensing program, which has resulted in more permits declined than granted and has effectively barred most people from exercising Second Amendment rights outside their home.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey led five states in a motion for review of a decision made by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals holding that a pat down is permitted based solely upon a reasonable suspicion that an individual is armed.

The court’s decision will directly affect West Virginia gun owners and carriers, according to Morrisey.

“It is wrong to deem an individual dangerous solely because they are armed,” Morrisey said. “I respect the right of innocent gun owners to carry their weapon without the fear of being unreasonably searched.”

Mayor Catherine Pugh said Wednesday she still backs a bill that would harshen punishments for illegally possessing a firearm, despite changes made to the legislation by the City Council.

Pugh, who introduced the bill along with City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young and Police Commissioner Kevin Davis last week, said she "looks forward to the bill's ultimate passage."

The Second Amendment belongs to every American. The freedom secured by the Second Amendment cannot be put asunder by any conceivable element of discrimination—not by color, race, age, sex, sexual orientation, language, religion, political ideology or national origin.

This is the simple, direct message of the National Rifle Association to all Americans. I’m proud of our minority outreach efforts to date, but more work needs to be done. A central focus of my NRA presidency is to help the NRA be more inclusive than it’s ever been.

It’s an encouraging sign of progress that when it comes to the issue of firearms in America, the pro-freedom viewpoint establishes the terms of the debate.

You’d be hard-pressed these days to find a gun control advocate who would admit to wanting to repeal the Second Amendment and ban private gun ownership. Yet gun control proponents have the same goals as they always have.

At best, they look to Australia and Europe as their guide. Gun ownership might still be possible for a dedicated or privileged few, but only at the discretion of a designated official—and even then subject to such intrusive, expensive and burdensome bureaucracy so as to scare off all but the most dogged or well-heeled.

Florida will pay $1.1 million in legal fees to attorneys who challenged a controversial state law that sought to prevent doctors from asking patients about guns, a group representing opponents said Monday.

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence announced the legal-fees agreement more than five months after a federal appeals court sided with doctors and medical groups in striking down key parts of the 2011 law --- which became known as the “docs vs. glocks” law. The state did not appeal the Feb. 16 decision by the full 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

A new proposal could make it possible for Fresno City workers to carry concealed weapons in the workplace. Right now, employees are not allowed to carry them, even if they have a concealed carry permit.

Councilmembers are set to vote Thursday, August 3, on whether or not to pass this proposal.

Councilman Garry Bredefeld said it's about allowing Concealed Carry Weapon Permit Holders the right to exercise the Second Amendment. He believes it would help keep the community safe.

It was standing room only as more than 50 people crowded into the Princeton Town Hall Annex on July 19 for a planning board discussion on “possible restrictions on assault-type firearms.”

Planning Board Chairman John Mirick said the issue came to the board as a result of the concerns of two residents regarding noise and safety due to the sound of automatic gun fire in their neighborhood.

Princeton residents Brian Cristman and Phoebe Moore of Bigelow Road were concerned after hearing gunfire close to their homes.

There’s a battle brewing in the state of Arkansas over the right to bear arms while having a medical marijuana card. The duel between state law versus the federal law of the land is not new, Illinois has also issued warnings in the past. The issue at hand is that cannabis remains federally illegal and people who want to buy guns are being told by the Arkansas Department of Health that they can either have the card, or the ability to buy a gun.

This warning isn’t sitting well with some gun enthusiasts.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967.
