The ATF has been cooking up revised regulations pertaining to who can possess firearms, based on the ailments they have and what medications they are taking to treat such ailments. These proposed regulatory changes center on neurological and psychological ailments gun owners and potential future gun owners may suffer from. The medications include Prozac, SSRIs and other medications. The ATF is responsible for the mishandling of the Ruby Ridge and Waco fiascos. If ATF gets their way, with no public input and no congressional oversight, our Second Amendment rights will be further eroded. The only way to reverse this atrocity is to elect a pro-gun candidate in the 2024 presidential election. |

An unexpected visit to a man’s apartment quickly became deadly after a stabbing turned into a self-defense shooting, according to San Antonio police.
The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Pinn Road.
Police said a 24-year-old man heard a knock on his apartment door. When he answered it, a 67-year-old man, who he has had issues with in the past, stabbed him in the chest.
In an act of self-defense, officers said the man who was stabbed pulled a pistol and fired multiple rounds, striking the 67-year-old. |

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said at a news conference on Wednesday that she respects the panel's opinion that these were fundamental errors.
“We’re going to look at (the case) in terms of whether we should proceed to a higher level, or whether we should re-prosecute it, or if we have enough evidence to," Mitchell said.
The appellate panel found that references to Melendez not answering the detective were brief, but his self-defense claim depended mostly on his credibility. |

If one researches the history that reflects the origin or roots of our nation’s abominable descent into mass shootings — and murderous sprees against school children and other innocent victims — one will find that the gun industry was in a downward spiral as hunting and demand for sporting rifles had plummeted, as did profits. Into the breach stepped the powerful National Rifle Association, which methodically funded what is fairly described as pseudo-scholarship to re-invent the Second Amendment as conferring a personal right to possess firearms as opposed to a right tethered to a well regulated militia. |

There is a new spot in Unicoi to buy firearms and accessories.
Big Ivy Guns, located at 100 Rocky Bottom Drive, held a ribbon cutting on Monday, July 17, though the store held a soft opening on June 21.
Big Ivy Guns has two other retail locations and a shooting range located in North Carolina, but T.J. Rice, director of operations for Big Ivy Guns, said they wanted to bring their business to Unicoi because of the community.
“We pride ourselves on being a small family business and wanted to bring that to Unicoi,” Rice said. |

It wasn’t until 2008 that the Supreme Court for the first time struck down a gun control law, ruling the 2nd Amendment protected the “right of law-abiding, responsible citizens” to keep a handgun at home for self-defense.
Last year, the court went a step further and said an “ordinary law-abiding citizen” also has a right to a state permit to carry a concealed weapon in public for self-defense.
Now the justices face a new frontier: Do gun rights extend to dangerous people and dangerous weapons? |

The above rule only applies to the use of physical force. A person may not use deadly physical force—the type of force that can result in a serious physical injury or death—unless this person has a reasonable suspicion that deadly physical force is being used or is about to be used on himself, herself or a third person. However, even under this circumstance, the law imposes on a person a “duty to retreat” before this person can resort to using deadly physical force if they can retreat with complete safety. |

A new, much more difficult level of shooting proficiency is now required for subjects in New Jersey who wish to keep or obtain their state-issued permission slips to Carry a Handgun.
The new requirements demand timed firing from concealed holsters. Kneeling position shooting and accurately shooting at 25 yards are also incorporated into the course. It is hard to envision citizen self-defense scenarios justifying the use of deadly force at 25 yards! Add to that, there are no exceptions for physically handicapped people. The new requirements are basically the same requirements utilized for retired police officers to get their New Jersey RPO handgun carry card.

McLaughlin is known as an outspoken conservative but he exhibited a strong independent streak after the Robb Elementary massacre, in which an 18-year-old gunman armed with a military-grade rifle killed 19 children and two teachers on May 24, 2022.
A gun owner and staunch defender of the Second Amendment, McLaughlin nevertheless came out in support of raising the minimum age to purchase assault-style weapons from 18 to 21.

"If Glock believes the milliseconds needed to disengage a manual safety is not acceptable, then Glock knows its end users will not store these weapons locked up and unloaded," their complaint states.
Glock did not respond to a request for comment. The company has not yet filed a response to the Bunces' suit.
A manual safety device could "absolutely" help prevent gun deaths among children, said Greg Lickenbrock, senior firearms analyst for Everytown for Gun Safety.
"Anything that can either disable the gun or slow it down from being used is, to me, extremely beneficial," he said. |

This year marks the 125th anniversary of the .38 Spl. From the beginning of Prohibition until nearly the close of the 20th century, it was one of the most popular cartridges for law enforcement. When I was hired as a police officer in 1992, I was issued a .357 Mag. revolver, but during training we shot a lot of .38 Spl. ammo that recoiled a helluva lot less. Sheriff Jim Wilson has told me stories of his former Police Chief prohibiting the use of .357 Mag. ammo in their revolvers; .38 Spl. +P was the hottest load they could carry. With many modern shooters, the .38 Spl. does not have the clout it once had, but some of the special .38 Spl. loads of today make the cartridge better than it’s ever been. |

With many prominent government officials exhibiting a flagrant indifference to violent crime, it’s getting harder for anti-gun politicians to pretend that their gun control schemes are anything other than a means to harass law-abiding gun owners. Recent incidents from anti-gun jurisdictions St. Louis and the District of Columbia further illustrate this point.
In early July, the St. Louis NBC affiliate published text messages from Mayor Tishaura Jones obtained under the state’s Sunshine Law. In a text conversation with her father, Jones expressed doubts about the efficacy of gun control laws. |

The men and women who risked their lives to defend our country shouldn’t have to risk losing their constitutional rights when they access life-saving mental health treatment.
But for years, government bureaucrats have abused the unconstitutional “fiduciary rule” to arbitrarily report veterans to the NICS background check database.
As a result, more than 250,000 veterans have been deprived of their Second Amendment rights and can no longer access or possess a firearm – all without having committed any crime, without the constitutional due process necessary for the deprivation of a right, and sometimes without knowing or consenting to it. |

The letter further makes clear that Congress, not freight companies, is responsible for enacting Second Amendment-related policies.
“Over the past year, several domestic shipping companies have chosen to prohibit the shipment of firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition. These decisions violate the Second Amendment and discriminate against law-abiding Americans’ right to keep and bear arms,” Crapo’s office insisted.
“[DHL/XPO Logistics/Saia’s] policy is an affront to the Second Amendment and discriminates against the millions of law-abiding citizens, including many of our constituents, who utilize and value their constitutional right to keep and bear arms,” the senators wrote. |

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel joined a coalition of 21 attorneys general filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit supporting the state of Minnesota’s ban on individuals under the age of 21 carrying firearms in public.
“Minnesota’s age restriction on carrying in public is a common-sense firearm safety law,” said Nessel. “It stands to reason that anyone who is too young to legally purchase alcohol should also be restricted from publicly toting around a firearm. I gladly join my colleagues in supporting Minnesota’s reasonable legislation to help protect the public from the harmful effects of gun violence.” |

Kathryn Jacobs is closely following a U.S. Supreme Court case about domestic violence and gun rights that originated in Arlington.
A potential ruling could increase her number of clients.
Jacobs leads SafeHaven, the only state-designated domestic violence center in Tarrant County. She fears that a possible outcome of the case will threaten the safety of domestic abuse victims.
Several officials and advocates in Tarrant County are waiting for the Supreme Court to hear United States v. Rahimi. The case questions the constitutionality of a federal law prohibiting the possession of firearms by persons subject to domestic violence protective orders. |

Starting Aug. 7, people who are under the age of 21 will not be able to buy any firearms in the state of Colorado.
Federal law already restricts anyone under 21 from buying handguns, but the new law restricts the purchase of any firearm in Colorado to people who are 21 or over.
The law makes purchasing a gun when you’re under 21 years old punishable by up to one year in jail or a $1,000 fine. Anyone who sells or transfers a firearm to someone under 21 could be punished with up to 18 months in jail or a $5,000 fine. |

Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) and FPC Action Foundation (FPCAF) announced the filing of an important brief with the United States Supreme Court in the case of Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, in which FPC and FPCAF ask the Supreme Court to overrule the deference doctrine the Court established in Chevron U.S.A., Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc.
Chevron deference, as it has come to be known, requires a court to defer to an executive branch agency’s interpretation of federal law, even if that interpretation is not the best interpretation of the law. This doctrine has allowed federal executive branch agencies, such as the ATF, to run wild, unchecked by either Congress or the courts. |

We've been telling you Issue 1 is about many issues, including protecting gun rights. And here's proof.
Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb admitted that if Issue 1 fails and Ohio's constitution continues to be easy to amend, they could use a constitutional ballot initiative to come after your guns.
Here's his exact quote from a recent news conference:
We can use our real political power to change the culture of guns in this state. It starts by voting no on Issue 1, by the way, to make sure we can maybe put a ballot measure on our state constitution to have common-sense gun reform. |
