My suggestion is a new constitutional amendment to clean up language in the Second Amendment so that no future Supreme Court can take away an individual’s right to bear arms. In exchange, the gun lobby and its legislative army would have to make specific concessions to allow reasonable gun control measures by state and federal government, the operative word being “reasonable.” Those measures would be determined in advance, with every interest group having a seat at the table.

Two Ontonagon families filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan claiming that the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services violates the second amendment in their prohibition on the bearing of firearms for qualified Michigan residents who wish to be foster or adoptive parents. William and Jill Johnson and Brian and Naomi Mason specifically name Nick Lyon, director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in the suit. |

Thankfully, there are many people in this country who actually treasure the Second Amendment and all that it stands for. But it’s always sad to see judges attempt to limit this right. These rulings typically come from judges who rule on ideology rather than following the U.S. Supreme Court’s Heller decision. So, whenever a court gets it right in striking down unfair decisions from lower courts or overly broad restrictions passed in certain cities regarding the Second Amendment, it is always worth applauding.
On Tuesday, a federal appeals court struck down the District of Columbia’s restrictions on carrying concealed weapons, ruling that the right to bear arms outside the home is at the core of the Second Amendment’s protections. |

As security conditions in Mexico continue to spiral out of control, the country has seen the rise of average citizens taking arms against the drug cartels that are responsible for most of the violence in the country.
Initially Mexico only had a handful of groups, but since 2013, that figure skyrocketed to more than 183 in 14 states. The main hotspots for self-defense organizations are Guerrero and Michoacan, two states rocked by extreme cartel violence, executions, and kidnappings. However, recent developments indicate self-defense groups are starting to establish themselves in the wealthy State of Mexico. |

John Stene, the man accused of fatally shooting Travis Carothers on June 17, will not face homicide charges as the district attorney said Stene was acting in self-defense.
When Stene recounted what happened that night, District Attorney Dan Rubinstein said that it mostly matched the evidence discovered. According to Stene, Carothers approached him while Stene was inside of a vehicle and pointed a gun at Stene. Carothers was committing an aggravated robbery at the time. |

Walking into a gun range in Kansas is a bit like walking into an underground community meeting. The people in charge have a strict regard for the rules, the regulars seem to all know each other’s names, and each member has a unique reason for joining. This club meeting features display cases filled with handguns and rifles and areas to shoot those weapons.
Kansas has been an epicenter of debate around guns, but there has been little conversation around why someone might choose to own a firearm. |

Jared LaMarche, of Windsor Arms Co., appeared at the Green Mountain Boys machine gun shoot with a Vepr-12 shotgun that they turned into a machine gun.
As a Class 3 dealer, Windsor Arms, of Windsor, Vermont, modified its Vepr-12 to fire at around 800 rounds per minute. It was a big crowd-pleaser at the machine gun shoot in Eden, Vermont, on July 14-15. The gun had enough recoil to practically knock first-time shooters off their feet, but always left them with a big smile across their face.
According to LaMarche, the Vepr-12 is the best Kalashnikov-style shotgun on the market. Produced by Molot-Oruzhie Ltd in Russia, it’s a multipurpose semi-automatic detachable-magazine shotgun. |

The story in the Quad-City Times about firing a mortar to start the Quad-City Times Bix 7 road race makes my heart hanker with envy. This year, the 7-mile race will start with a blast fired from a self-propelled howitzer cannon mounted on the rear of a Humvee. Wow, how can I get one?
My gun advocate friends claim that the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms, is unconditional. It’s already become perfectly all right to hunt game with an assault rifle so the next logical step is to utilize the howitzer. |

Chicago Guns Matter founder Rhonda Ezell says citizens have same right as Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to enjoy protection via firearms. Ezell founded Chicago Guns Matter amid her ongoing fight for a change in city ordinances to allow more shooting ranges in more places for better accessibility.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, 49-year-old Ezell has suffered from serious health problems throughout her years and the 50-mile drive to the nearest shooting range is physically draining for her. To remedy the situation, she joined with the Illinois State Rifle Association in a lawsuit aimed at eliminating Chicago’s strangle hold on new shooting range construction. |

So President Donald Trump’s banned transgenders from serving in the U.S. military, and now, the left’s gone nuts.
The question is: Why?
Transgenderism is a mental disorder. And we know the left is all about curbing the Second Amendment access to those with mental disorders. Right? So Democrats should be cheering, not wailing. They’re getting their way.
Ed.: No. Don't put this bigotry on gun owners or gun rights. This is exactly why gun owners oppose the removal of gun rights from the mentally ill, unless they are demonstrably dangerous and given due process. We support the right of all law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms. |

City Council Member Garry Bredefeld has gone from God to guns. He was behind the move to put "In God We Trust" on the wall at City Hall. He now wants to let city employees who have permits to carry concealed weapons, CCW's, to be allowed to carry guns at work.
"I just think it's very important for people to exercise their right if they have a CCW permit and they've gone through all their training. They should be able to exercise the rights of that permit. Because people who have CCW permits are lawful, responsible citizens." |

Visitors to Fort Ticonderoga can get a plethora of information at their fingertips with the site’s new smartphone app.
Fort Curator of Collections Matthew Keagle said the first module of the app covers the fort’s extensive artillery assortment.
“You can’t escape a visit to Fort Ticonderoga without seeing the artillery collection,” he said. “It is an iconic part of being here.”
When Stephen Pell was reconstructing the fort in the early 20th century, the British Royal Navy shipped the first cannons to Ticonderoga, ones that had been used in the Napoleonic Wars. |

Jim Downing prefers to call himself a craftsman, not an artist.
But his intricately hand-carved renderings on Colts, Rugers, Winchesters and other fine guns have earned him clients from across the globe — from Europe all the way to Australia.
Especially in the world of cowboy action shooting, mention Springfield, Missouri, and many participants in the Western-themed sport will instantly know the name: Jim Downing, Gun Engraver.
It's been an unusual path to his workbench at Cherokee Firearms in Springfield, where Downing typically engraves one to two guns a week, all by hand. |

Fewer people are buying guns in Virginia.
The Daily Press reports gun sellers have conducted 10 percent fewer background checks so far in 2017 compared to the same time period last year.
Experts say the decline follows a Republican being elected to the White House opposed to a Democrat. Johns Hopkins public health professor Cassandra Crifasi said fears have fallen over whether gun regulations will increase. |

A tactical flashlight can be used for self-defense. How so? Well, it can produce 1000 lumens of brightness that can very well blind someone temporarily. Hence, if you are in a threatening and dangerous situation, you can flash the tactical flashlight on the perpetrator and blind them temporarily while you run away to a safer place. Many tactical flashlights even boast of bezel edges that can be expertly used to break windows and fight back. |

There was a time when the black community and concealed carry did not mix. There were two main reasons behind this. The first reason was more than a century of Democrat-sponsored legislation aimed at keeping blacks unarmed. These efforts began before the Civil War, continued through the Reconstruction era and marked 20th-century attempts to control blacks through Jim Crow laws and other schemes. The second reason the black community and concealed carry did not mix was the fact that guns were chiefly viewed as a means by which criminals plied their trade in inner cities around the country. |

Sitting in a classroom above a gun range, a woman hesitantly says she isn’t sure she could ever shoot and kill someone, even to protect herself. Couldn’t she just aim for their leg and try to maim them?
Her instructor says self-defense is not about killing someone, but is instead about eliminating a threat.
If the gun gets taken away by a bad guy, the instructor says, ``I promise you they’re not going to be having any sympathy or going through the thought process you are.’’
Gently she adds that if the student isn’t comfortable with the lethal potential of the gun, buying one might not be for her. |

Lee County Supervisors are looking at making county-owned buildings safer for employees and the public, which may include banning guns from county-owned buildings – even for those who have conceal-carry permits.
The Courtroom Security Committee has been working on a proposed ordinance, which was reviewed recently by supervisors. The main concern was weapons in the buildings, specifically the courthouses. Firearms already are prohibited in courtrooms.
According to Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber, there already are laws in effect banning guns in certain locations, even when someone possesses a conceal carry permit. |

Media group TCPalm acquired the heavily-redacted document as part of a Freedom of Information Act Request. The news outlet said Thursday it took 10 months and pressure from a USA Today Network attorney before the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives fulfilled the request.
The report uncovered nothing unusual or negligent at the Shooting Center, the Port St. Lucie gun store where Omar Mateen bought a handgun and a rifle on two different occasions about 10 days before the shooting, according to TCPalm.
“He did his due diligence,” ATF spokeswoman Clara Himel told the news outlet of the gun store’s owner, Ed Henson. |

The Center For American Progress ranks Florida third in the country with the most stolen guns.
Thieves got a hold of more than 80,000 guns between 2012 and 2015.
In many cases, weapons that are stolen after thieves smash gun shop walls end up being used in violent crimes.
"You're not going to be able to control the chaos factor of the criminal," Joe Baker said.
Baker manages Reig's gun shop. Every night, each pistol, rifle and shotgun is locked up in safes. |
