Less than two weeks before Sunday’s mass shooting incident at the Gilroy, California Garlic Festival, the chief executive at one of the nation’s largest and most legally-active Second Amendment groups called for an end to so-called “gun-free zones”—which the festival grounds were—because they are “shooting galleries for maniacs.” |

On Saturday, 20 July 2019, Derrick Fells was trapping minnows on his 17-acre property in Tuscola, County, Michigan. Fells was carrying a pistol. He heard a hissing sound and thought it might be from a possum. Instead of a possum, there was a six-foot alligator sunning itself next to the Sucker Creek canal on his property. |

Most of the United States has seen a hot summer so far in 2019, and the added heat doesn't make it any easier to strap on a concealed-carry gun. However, there's an entire self-defense industry dedicated toward making it easier for today's defense-minded citizens to carry a gun for personal protection, and that includes coming up with products that beat the heat. Here are five must-have products that are sized and built right for summer carry, so you won't have to encumber yourself with a heavy cover garment or saddle up with a heavy self-defense pistol. |

On July 22, New Zealand’s Labour-led government announced a wide array of new gun control proposals. The move came amidst the island nation’s ongoing program to confiscate commonly-owned semi-automatic firearmsfrom law-abiding gun owners that will last through December 20. The government’s most recent attack on gun owners is likely to engender further civil disobedience to the firearm confiscation scheme. |

Talk about gun control has been non-stop in Virginia since the Virginia Beach municipal massacre took place on Friday June 1, 2019. Although the perpetrator of this atrocity went through the gun control hoops that all law-abiding gun owners must go through, this was not enough to stop him from committing the heinous act of killing 12 people. |

With this year’s revision and destruction of famously libertarian Swiss gun laws, the world has started to look closer at the gun culture of Europe. Under threat of Schengen Area exclusion, the EU, which Switzerland is not a part of, changed their gun laws in order to fall more in line with barebones Union restrictions. Swiss gun laws are now stricter, requiring further background checks and more extensive licensing paperwork. However, they are still lawless in comparison to countries like the United Kingdom or Australia. But this investigation by those on the more libertarian side of the gun rights argument leads to the rediscovery of compulsory gun ownership both in Switzerland and in the United States. |

The excellent award-winning Sig P365 that I reviewed here a little over a year ago has won a lot of awards. It is a well-respected, sub-compact concealed carry pistol with excellent features which Sig Sauer designed around a uniquely tapered 10-round magazine. Some of the 365 awards include “Handgun of the Year” for 2018 by Guns and Ammo, the NRA Golden Bullseye Award from Shooting Illustrated “Handgun of the Year,” and the “Top 10 Guns of 2018” by TFB. |

“Smart guns” are firearms with some type of electronic or mechanical locking system that prevents unauthorized users from discharging the firearm. The Armatix iP1 (pictured above) tested by NRA staff in 2014 wasn’t a particularly compelling firearm. Even beyond problems with its “smart” features, staff members struggled to get the pistol to fire an entire magazine without a stoppage. It also “featured” an incredibly heavy double-action trigger pull that led one staffer to wonder if the trigger pull itself was an attempt to make the gun impossible to fire. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I've realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it's much, much bigger than that. I've come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated. — Charlton Heston |
