"The National Rifle Association, on the other hand, likes Bill Pryor. In fact, it likes Bill Pryor a lot. The group has given Pryor its highest award for defense of the Second Amendment, an award which he very graciously accepted. The NRA congratulates Pryor for his 'prominent role in fighting frivolous and predatory municipal lawsuits against the firearms industry', and also lauds him for his work to preempt or repeal local gun control ordinances. Gunowners of America endorses Pryor, too. In fact, it calls on its members to support Pryor by saying his confirmation is in danger because 'Bill Pryor is way too pro-gun' for some in the Senate When taking the Second Amendment into consideration, Bill Pryor gets my support."

"A suicide hijacking warning led the government to ask airlines to watch out for certain foreigners just days after it asked for cuts in the air marshal program that was boosted after the Sept. 11 attacks."

"Lawmakers from both parties said they would block any effort to reduce funding for air marshals."

No, it is foolish to disarm law-abiding, well-trained, peaceable citizens who already have concealed carry permits and treat them like criminals at the gate.

"Do you hear that cracking noise? That's the government-school monopoly dam about to burst."

"Up until now, the teachers unions have plugged the holes in the dike using threats and money to make sure lawmakers, especially Democrats, oppose school-choice vouchers. U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, however, has just joined a growing number of Democratic elected officials who not only refuse to strengthen the dam but want to tear it down."

"And therein lies one problem for conservatives nationwide who would like to see George W. Bush reelected. So hobbled is Gov. Davis that, were he to remain in office, his political infirmity could make it difficult, or at least extremely expensive, for the 2004 Democratic presidential candidate to win California's 54 electoral votes. But if voters boot Gov. Davis, they could conceivably replace him with another, more popular Democrat—particularly if the GOP vote is split among too many candidates."

"When a peace officer encounters a person during the normal traffic stop, the officer does not know what type of person they are coming in contact with. If the person is a legally armed citizen, they should work with the officer to lower any threat level that could occur. This area has not been a problem to date, but with more legally armed citizens coming into contact with more peace officers when the citizen travels outside of their home state, what is beneficial to both parties needs to be addressed and examples demonstrated so that both sides understand the procedures that will make a safe meeting for both the officer and the citizen."

"But the benefits do not stop at the government. Private industry, which is collecting most of the information that is planned to go into TIA, would be able to offer all sorts of new helpful services. For example, the logical extension of the Mach-3 cam is to check to see if you also need Grecian Formula hair dye - a box could leap into your shopping basket if you do."

"Okay, first of all, the actual study is fractionally less outright stoopid than the summary released to the media. Still, the summary is what 99 percent of the media will read and it contains what the authors presumably want the public to know about their work. Here's the first problem: When asked that this might be seen as a 'partisan exercise,' Dr. Jack Glaser explained that they studied conservatism simply because there have been a great deal of studies on conservatives but not on liberals. Now, putting aside the fact that the authors included in their research numerous speeches by conservatives and judicial opinions by conservatives and the last time I checked there was no shortage of liberal speeches and liberal judicial opinions, I take them at their word that there have been few psychological studies of liberalism and many of conservatism."

The school board is surprised to learn their "Zero Tolerance" gun policy doesn't apply to CCW permit holders

-------
"Curtiss Greer brought a gun to a Springfield School Board meeting Monday night - a flagrant breach of the district's strict, no-guns-allowed policy."

"But according to the school district's attorney, enforcing that policy would have violated Greer's legal right to carry a concealed handgun."

"Greer, a retired mobile home park manager and self-appointed government watchdog, has been badgering the school district for more than a year to revise its weapons policy, which he said does not comply with state law."

"Turns out he's right, Merwin Logan, the district's legal counsel, told the board on Monday."

"No state or federal law prohibits storing and selling guns in the same house as a Syracuse day-care center. And state and federal inspectors find no reason to believe any children are in danger. But the proximity of the guns to the children is unsettling."

"The Second Amendment is the only part of the Bill of Rights that has a introductory clause defining its purpose. Because a militia is 'necessary to the security of a free state,' the amendment says, 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' Some legal scholars interpret the first clause of the Second Amendment as giving the people the right to bear arms only as part of a 'well regulated militia.' To these scholars, such a militia would be today’s National Guard, which is the modern-day successor to the minutemen of the colonial period. Other scholars emphasize that a militia, at the time of the adoption of the Bill of Rights, consisted of 'the body of the people,' as affirmed in several of the state resolutions proposing that a bill of rights be added to the Constitution."

"Current law restricts certain 'assault weapons' that have specific military features and specific models such as the AK47 series, but there is no general restriction on the sale of armor-piercing, .50-caliber BMG military sniper rifles. AB 50 would ban the sale of .50-caliber BMG sniper rifles and .50-caliber BMG ammunition. People who currently own .50-caliber BMG sniper rifles would be required to register them and could not transfer them to anyone without a special DOJ-issued license."

".50 BMG sniper rifles were created to destroy concrete bunkers and armored vehicles in theaters of war. They have been used effectively by militaries around the world for long range sniping against individual humans from distances up to two miles."
