Ed.: Article is an interview with Robert Levy, one of the main people [with attorney Alan Gura] behind the Parker case.
While I believe the Constitution secures my right to own guns, as a practical matter, I don’t sense the need to do so. I live in a safe area, a relatively affluent area, and crime isn't a major issue where I live. I don’t have the same need for self-defense as the six plaintiffs in the Parker case. |

Fulfilling its duty to defend its laws, the District of Columbia has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review a federal appeals court decision striking down the district's gun-control ordinance, which bans the registration of handguns acquired after 1975 and effectively prevents citizens from legally keeping guns in their homes. The danger -- and one that extends beyond the sometimes mean streets of the nation's capital -- is that the high court will endorse not only the appeals court's decision but also its radical reinterpretation of the 2nd Amendment. That would threaten even reasonable gun-control laws. |

This change on the Arkansas books effects homeowners and their rights regarding self defense on their property including the use of deadly force.
Ed.: According to the article, you either have to retreat or you don't. The editors can't seem to make up their mind. ;-) |

Police are investigating the death of a man who went to his ex-wife's home early Monday morning and got into a fight with her current boyfriend, police said.
Police are awaiting autopsy results. There was no evidence that a weapon was used in the fight, Irving said, "other than fists, and maybe feet."
"This could be a self-defense-type situation," Irving said. "We just don’t know at this point." |

Earlier this month, Ron Holt stood in the crowded basement of a Chicago church and — in front of several television cameras — spilled his grief. “I stand here symbolically … for all the parents who lost children before me — all the parents who have lost children to senseless gun violence,” Holt said at a news conference with Mayor Richard Daley to encourage residents to turn in firearms for cash. “I get up every morning just like the other parents do, anguishing, wishing that my child was here,” Holt added. “I’ve asked God to give me the energy, the strength to turn my anger, my frustration, my grieving and my mourning into making this a national campaign.” |

Plymouth police were called to an abandoned factory after a report came in several people, dressed in camouflage carrying rifles went into the Bathey factory on Mill Street.
Once the officers showed up, they soon realized it was teenagers with toy guns.
Police said seven teens, ages 17 and 18, with realistic-looking weapons were playing war games inside the abandoned building.
All of the teens were ticketed for trespassing and their toy guns were confiscated.
Plymouth Police Chief Wayne Carroll told the paper parents need to be aware of the dangers when their children play with real-looking guns in public. |

If I didn't know better, I'd guess that a recent (unsigned) Toledo Blade editorial, entitled "NRA puppets", and another published in the (Hamilton) Journal-News ("Keeping gun data secret is criminal") were written by anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg himself. While it does appear that Bloomberg has requested that his friends in the media begin an editorial campaign lamenting his loss, it is more likely, at least in the case of the Blade, that the typically misleading editorial was penned by Blade editorial board member Dan Simpson, who just a few short months ago proposed a plan to disarm America's law-abiding gun owners. |

Discussion on a proposal for a target range and gun shop on Eight Mile Road has been postponed to give the City Council more time to take aim at the issue.
The council was scheduled to review a special use permit for the Action Impact Firearms Training Center at 25992 W. Eight Mile at its regular meeting Monday. Discussion was postponed, however, with council members in sharp disagreement about selling guns in Southfield.
"We have some things to discuss," said Councilman Sidney Lantz. "Some people object to the sale of guns in Southfield, and I'm leading the charge. If people want to buy guns, let them do it elsewhere." |

Arming Canadian officials at U.S. crossing points is an awkward solution to a simple problem
The Canadian border has been reinvented since the 9/11 attacks. Gone is the comforting myth of the longest undefended border. In its place has emerged the "secure border," supposedly strengthened against the intrusion of those who would threaten our national security: terrorists, drug and weapons smugglers, people smugglers, and criminals of all stripes. |

Recently, it is fear in response to the aforementioned events driving organizations such as the True Conservatives and Libertarians United at SFCC and the Facebook group "Allow Legal Guns on University Campuses" to demand the passing of a bill allowing students and teachers to carry concealed weapons on college campuses. ... Leaders of the groups advocating this right say that criminals target unarmed citizens and do not follow the gun laws mandated by states. This makes students particularly easy targets, left at the mercy of murderous individuals. Opponents of the current gun-free zone laws on campuses cite their inalienable liberties - their Second Amendment rights. |

CNN also managed to include a question about gun rights from what they would like the audience to believe was a typical supporter of Second Amendment rights to gun ownership -- an AK47-toting fanatic who resembled an average American National Rifle Association member about as much as Cindy Sheehan resembles an average Gold Star Mother.

In mid-August, we will be updating our Firearms, Weapons and Knives Policy to place more restrictions around gun-related items. Once these changes take effect, we will prohibit listings of any firearm part that is required for the firing of a gun. Please read the Firearms, Weapons and Knives Policy for more details on our current policy. As you may know, eBay does not allow the listing of any items which are regulated by individual states or the federal government; however, there are still a large number of firearm-related parts that are legal and are widely available in retail stores. These items have also historically been allowed on eBay.

The federal Occupational Safety Hazard Administration (OSHA) is, "updating the definition of explosives so it is consistent with the Department of Transportation (DOT) definition; incorporating the DOT/United Nations-based classification ..."
Who writes this stuff? I could've downloaded THE 300 from Netflix with a dial-up connection on a 9.6 modem in less time than it took to read that. OSHA uses more doublespeak than Bill Clinton at a Kenneth Starr deposition. Any government agency who uses that many words to say so little is obviously up to something. For those of you who may have lapsed into a coma, wake up, wipe the drool off your chin and pay attention because your gun rights are in jeopardy - again. |

A Fort Smith woman was fatally wounded Friday when her estranged husband’s grandmother shot her in what investigators say could be an act of self-defense.
Heather Mizell, 25, died at a local hospital from a gunshot wound she sustained Friday night sometime upon arriving at the Crawford County residence of her estranged husband’s grandmother, according to Chief Deputy Ron Brown with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
“We’re talking with the prosecutor,” Brown said. “I understand that they’re possibly looking at a motive of self-defense, but that has not been confirmed.” |
