"'The Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva ranks the U.S. number one in both the total number of civilian firearms and in per capita ownership of small firearms,' alternet.org reports, 'beating out recent war zones like Yemen, Serbia and Iraq. In fact, we may even have more guns in the U.S. than we have people: The rate of private gun ownership in the U.S. was tabulated at 101.05 firearms per 100 individuals in one study. According to a recent report on CNN, Americans own as many as one-third of the guns in the entire world. Research also shows that while the number of households with guns has declined, current gun owners are stockpiling more guns. ...' As Ronald Reagan used to say, there you go again . . ." ...

"For years, the opinion polls on gun control have been trending in favor of gun rights. People have been turning away from the idea that gun control is the quick fix to all of America’s woes, and toward the idea that guns might actually be helping instead of hurting. In the wake of the Newtown shooting, those numbers dipped dramatically. No surprise there. But just as dramatic has been the quick correction back to the pre-Newtown status quo, and a recent Pew poll shows some other interesting trends . . ." ...

"According to the NRA, there are an estimated 23,000 gun-control laws on the books across America, ranging from mandatory ownership of a gun (Kennesaw, Ga.) to restrictions so onerous as to preclude or even prohibit any firearm ownership (Chicago, Washington). Therefore, it becomes necessary to look at what, exactly, are common sense or reasonable gun control laws." ...

Submitter's Note: To me, a "reasonable" gun law is one which limits punishment for each violation to no less than 30 years, no more than 50 years in prison for any government official or employee who uses or proposes to use the color of law or authority to in any way restrict an individual's ability to manufacture, purchase, own, sell, carry or transport arms of any type.
