An image posted online Monday night apparently shows a Department of Veterans Affairs psychiatrist telling a veteran to commit suicide. The image was uploaded to Imgur and shows an anonymous veteran indicating support for gun rights on a Facebook comment thread. In response, Gregg Gorton, whose Facebook profile shows that he works at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center as a staff psychiatrist, said that the user should commit suicide. “[O]ff yourself, please,” Gorton said in response to the veteran. ... A VA spokesman confirmed with The Daily Caller News Foundation that Gorton is employed as a psychiatrist at the department and immediately chastised the comment.

The lawsuit was forwarded to the township's insurer. Township police Chief George Sippert declined to comment on the settlement and directed questions to attorney G. Gus Morris, who represented the officer and department in the case.

A Department of Veterans Affairs psychiatrist in Philadelphia says he regrets a Facebook post suggesting a gun rights supporter "off" himself. Dr. Gregg Gorton says the comment was meant to be sarcastic. But he says he'd like to take it back. Gorton says the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia is reviewing his job status. He says he's been a psychiatrist for 30 years and employed by the agency for 11 years.
SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: This nutcase has been spreading his poison for 30 years! Sounds like he's the one who should be confined. |

A Veterans Affairs psychiatrist walked back a comment he made on Facebook Tuesday in which he told a gun rights supporter to “off yourself.” Gregg Gorton’s Facebook page says he is both a professor of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and a staff psychiatrist at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he has worked for 11 years, WCAU-TV reported. Gorton was responding to another online user who posted a comment in favor of more people owning guns. The original Facebook status was also posted by an apparent gun rights supporter, the Military Times reported.

Body camera footage made headlines again this week after Officer Ray Tensing was indicited for murder after he allegedly shot a man in the head during a traffic stop. At a news conference, prosecutor Joseph Deters said the footage was "shocking" and cited it as a key component in the evidence that lead a grand jury to indict tensing. While Tensing's case shows how body cameras can shed light on an incident, experts say how the cameras will affect officers and police departments on a large scale remains largely unknown.

The family of a diamond dealer killed by a pair of crooked New York Police Department detectives — known as the Mafia Cops for moonlighting as hit men for the mob — has won a $5 million settlement in a wrongful-death lawsuit. Lawyers for the family of Israel Greenwald announced the settlement on Thursday in one of the most notorious police corruption cases in city history. The family sued the city in 2006 after Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa were arrested in Las Vegas, where they had retired, and convicted of murder and other crimes.

A Veterans Affairs psychiatrist allegedly told an online user to “off yourself” over a stance on gun control in a Facebook comment thread, according to an image shared online. A photo posted to Imgur on Monday night shows one user expressing a pro-gun stance in a Facebook comment thread. “I am all for gun control,” the user wrote. “If there is a gun in the room, I want to be in control of it.” Gregg Gorton, whose Facebook profile identifies him as a staff psychiatrist at the Philadelphia Veterans Medical Center, replied: “Off yourself, please.” The Veterans Affairs website does list Dr. Gorton as a mental and behavior health physician at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. First developed for and tested by law enforcement, Federal’s HST has earned top marks for performance in lab tests and real-world scenarios. Now Federal Premium Ammunition is offering HST ammo in .380 ACP.
The HST bullet is a hollow point that uses a cannelure to bind the copper jacket to the lead bullet core to prevent jacket separation and predictable expansion, unlike many other self-defense loads which use bonded jackets. The design of the bullet has been tuned and optimized for short-barreled handguns, which is common in the world of .380s. |

Americans are increasingly convinced that owning a gun makes them safer.
A new Rasmussen poll found that an overwhelming majority of Americans (68 percent) “feel safer in a neighborhood where guns are allowed.” And a series of polls by Gallup, the Pew Research Center, and ABC News and the Washington Post show similar results.
But it isn’t just what people say. They are clearly putting more stock in self-defense. Since 2007, the number of concealed-handgun permits has soared, from 4.6 million to 12.8 million. A new study by the Crime Prevention Research Center finds that a record 1.7 million permits have been issued in just the past year, a 15.4 percent increase. |

After receiving requests from owners of property along the Minnesota River and on the city’s north side, the Le Sueur City Council is considering allowing bow hunting in certain areas of the city.
The Le Sueur City Council recently approved a first reading of the proposed ordinance change. It says the city’s police chief will recommend areas where bow-and-arrow hunting will be permitted.
Only property owners and people they grant permission to will be allowed to hunt in the designated areas, the Le Sueur News-Herald recently reported. Police Chief Bruce Kelly said there are probably areas of the city that are over populated with wildlife. |

To a careful observer, the ongoing effort to subarm Americans is increasingly obvious. It’s a cooperative project involving government, private hoplophobic (gun-fearing) anti-rights groups, and a compliant poorly informed “news” media that has become a lapdog, not a watchdog.
The whole point of being armed is to be properly armed, to create the balance of power the Second Amendment intends and makes possible. Balance of power. You heard that phrase in school if you’re old enough. It used to be important. It still is. Subarming the public upsets this critical balance. |

The family of 24-year-old Jessica Ghawi, a victim in the 2012 movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado, is faced with more than $200,000 in legal costs after a federal judge ordered them to pay attorney’s fees for four ammunition dealers the family attempted to sue.
“They have taken our daughter, and now they want to take our worldly goods,” Lonnie Phillips told MSNBC’s Tamron Hall in a televised interview earlier this week. “I think that’s a little much.” |

“Colion Noir” belongs to the National Rifle Association (NRA) and owns several guns, including a sleek Glock 17 handgun and a customized AR-15 rifle. But as Noir frequently points out, he does not fit the stereotype of NRA members, or what he calls OFWG: “Old, fat White guys.”
At 29, he’s not old. Nor is he fat ‒ he’s slender and stylishly dressed with sneakers made by Prada. He’s also not White.
In the world of gun owners, Noir, an African-American, has become an Internet sensation and his popularity is growing. |

Liberal activists are highlighting former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's role in "Stand Your Ground" laws ahead of his speech at the National Urban League on Friday.
Stand Your Ground laws generally make it easier for people to claim self-defense after using deadly force. In 2005, when Bush was governor, Florida became one of the first states to adopt a Stand Your Ground provision. These laws now exist in 24 states. |

Since the introduction of firearms, there has been one goal for both shooters and manufacturers—achieving the maximum possible accuracy. After all, what is the point of propelling a projectile of any sort at a target that it is unlikely to hit? For hunting this was a particularly vital requirement; but, for several generations, accuracy was a concept that did not bother most military commanders in the slightest.

A revamped concealed weapons law took effect in Idaho earlier this month, but Blaine County law enforcement officials say they’re not expecting much of an effect from it.
The new law makes it legal to carry a concealed weapon outside city limits without a permit, along with allowing permits for people who have had disqualifying criminal convictions expunged or pardoned, or had judgments withheld. |
