"The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee today passed out of committee, S. 2566, the Lugar-Obama Act. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL) to expand the cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons." ...

"... The Lugar-Obama bill will build on this success by helping other nations find and eliminate conventional weapons that have been used against our own soldiers in Iraq and sought by terrorists all over the world,' said Obama."

"'We are convinced that the United States can and should do more to eliminate conventional weapons stockpiles ...' Lugar said." ...

"A fight at a popular Central Ohio Mexican restaurant turned into a double homicide over the weekend where two men were shot and killed following a fight. Two others, including an owner of the facility, were injured in the shooting. According to published reports police don't know what started the fight."

"The Ohio Legislature needs to resolve this fatal flaw in Ohio's concealed carry law."

... "The United Nations has been promoting world-wide civilian disarmament since the 1990s. Their professed goals are encapsulated in the reference above: guns kill people, therefore the people should not have access to guns. If all guns were restricted from civilian access, would this halt the international arms trade, thus eliminating criminal access and reducing crime as well? Most importantly, is it really true that civilian firearms are the biggest threat to our global safety and security?"

"Deciding their government could not protect them, the Brazilian people recently rejected the proposal to ban civilian firearms in their country:" ...

"Mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared war on the illegal gun trade that has most recently caused so much grief in New York City. Handgun murders -- even on Staten Island -- have increased slightly over last year, but any upward trend, no matter how small, is reason for if not alarm, at least an increase in counter measures."

"Mr. Bloomberg has been joined by an impressive number of other mayors, who are also concerned about the movement of illegal weapons across state lines and the carnage that has resulted."

"This campaign is a good thing, especially in light of recent news reports concerning the innovative -- but no less deadly -- weapons that have begun to turn up on our city's streets." ...

"Mississippi's new 'Deadly Force' law took effect over the weekend, protecting your right to defend your property. But before you shoot without thinking twice, you need to know when the law doesn't apply."

"Mississippians have a new license to kill. If someone is breaking and entering your home, car or office, you don't have to hesitate before using deadly force. 'You can take action to defend yourself, and the law isn't going to second guess you after the fact,' says Sen. Charlie Ross."

"A new state law that allows Hoosiers to seek a lifetime permit to carry a handgun -- rather than reapplying every four years -- could mean more work for local law enforcement to ensure that future criminals don't slip through the cracks."

"But the legislation, which took effect Saturday, is being touted as a time-saver for Indiana citizens who can now choose between the two options."

"'It's going to be a lot faster with a more complete, thorough check,' said Dick Fidler, who owns Lafayette's Flat Creek Range, a shooting range and gun retailer. 'It's good, it's convenient. But I think they also need to monitor and see 'What's going on with this person?' Maybe run checks at random to make sure nothing comes up.'" ...
