When it comes to the debate over gun control, the pushback I often hear from Second Amendment advocates is that there is no problem to fix, no loopholes to be filled, only clueless anti-gun zealots to be dealt with. That includes me, apparently. Well, there are problems and loopholes and that does not make me anti-gun. |

I was heartened by Kevin Lee’s June 26 Point of View “Selfishness over safety” and for the June 26 Sunday Forum focus on “The NRA and gun control.” Puzzling is the fact that the courts of the land have forgotten the hierarchy of inalienable rights laid out in the preamble of our Constitution. First and foremost comes the citizens’ right to “life;” only then come our civil “liberties.” |

Any Pennsylvanian willing to spend several hundred dollars on a handgun, rifle or shotgun also needs to put down $5 for a background check. Depending on your viewpoint, that’s either too much money for a constitutional right, or a modest cost to ensure public safety. “I feel a dollar is too much,” said Keith Savage, manager of Braverman Arms in Wilkinsburg. “You’re making people pay for a guaranteed right.” |

Socialist politicians want to disarm honest civilians. That political position is an easy sell to unarmed America. Unarmed America lives in fear and can’t imagine defending themselves.
Armed America knows better. Armed America knows that terrorists can be killed.
Now you know too. There is no reason to live in fear. |

Aviation police officers in Chicago are sitting targets for potential terrorists because they don’t carry guns and are told to run and hide in the event of an attack, the union representing the officers said Thursday. The State Fairgrounds were packed with people for the gun show on Saturday. Despite the national attention on gun laws, crowds still flocked to the event in Raleigh. Many of the men and women who strolled through the aisles at Saturday's gun show enjoy target shooting. Others like to hunt, and some have guns for protection. One thing they have in common is awareness of calls for more gun control measures after the Orlando nightclub shootings.

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter signed SB 1389 into law in March, and on July 1, it officially became legal to carry concealed firearms without a permit in Idaho—but during at a July 1 rally on the Capitol Mall, Idaho Second Amendment Alliance President Greg Pruett said there's more work to be done. Pruett told the crowd of 75-100 people the next step is lobbying lawmakers to remove the residency requirement from the permitless—or constitutional—carry law and strengthen Idaho's "castle doctrine," the law which defines homicide as justifiable if it is, among other things, "committed in defense of habitation or property." |

For months, the San Francisco Democrat has been telling anyone who will listen that there’s “not a dime’s worth of difference” between House Republicans and their presidential standard bearer. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
...If a man lies under oath or procures the lie of another under oath, if he perjures himself or suborns perjury, he is guilty under the statute law. Under the higher law, under the great law of morality and righteousness, he is precisely as guilty if, instead of lying in a court, he lies in a newspaper or on the stump; and in all probability, the evil effects of his conduct are infinitely more widespread and more pernicious. — Teddy Roosevelt - May 12, 1900 |
