The night of the incident, Daye and two other colleagues were working on a car when three armed men entered the auto repair shop. In addition to Daye, another person on the scene had a license to wear and carry a concealed firearm.
One of the armed men approached Daye’s colleague at gunpoint, demanded his firearm then allegedly shot him.
Daye allegedly then took out his firearm, shot and killed two of the armed men and tried to leave but his vehicle was trapped in snow. The last armed man followed Daye outside and Daye allegedly shot him but he survived. Daye later took his injured colleague to the hospital. |

BOG Policy #GA-08 outlines where individuals who possess a current and valid concealed handgun license may carry their pistol or revolver on campus. It also outlines a list of exceptions including prohibiting weapons in residence hall rooms, at events of 1,000 people or more, at disciplinary hearings, and in areas where patient care or mental health counseling is provided.
The University will be fully compliant with the law by July 1. This includes placing signage on the doors of all spaces where concealed carry is prohibited and providing expanded FAQs on the Campus Carry website. |

Something very unusual happened in a Denver courtroom in June: Prosecutors dismissed a first-degree murder case after testimony had already started. For the first time during the trial, district attorneys realized a potential weapon had been in the victim's hand when the shooting happened.
In April 2023, the Denver District Attorney's Office filed a first-degree murder charge against a 23-year-old man. 9NEWS is not naming this defendant since he is no longer facing a criminal charge.
The case went to trial in June 2024, a little more than a year later. |

Hunter Biden's lawyer has vowed to appeal his conviction on gun charges, but the Supreme Court on Tuesday told another defendant challenging the same law as unconstitutional to have his case reviewed again by an appeals court.
Patrick Darnell Daniels Jr.’s case is part of a flood of Second Amendment challenges following a landmark Supreme Court decision in 2022. Daniels has challenged a federal law that bans gun possession for anyone who “is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance.” |

In an emotional interview, Heath’s wife, Joann Mitchell, told Fox Detroit affiliate WJBK that Thompson had been acting like a “madman” in recent weeks and had sent threatening texts about an hour before the deadly shooting.
“A stupid lock on the door isn’t gonna save you,” she read from texts she said he wrote, during her interview with the outlet. “I will bury you.”
Then, through tears, she said about her husband: “He wouldn’t do that. He’s a good man. He’s a good daddy.”
“And who comes in here knowing that there’s kids in here and trying to do that and threatens to kill everybody?” she added. “Like, who does that?” |

I spoke with Michael Johnson and he had nothing but the highest praise for the two detectives handling the case. He said they were the model of professionalism and dedication to the job. In this case, they were very willing to go the extra mile to help secure evidence and witness statements that would further their investigation to a just conclusion, which also ultimately served to exonerate Raoul.
“It doesn’t always happen like that,” Johnson told me. Sometimes detectives say “tell it to the judge.” But not here. In fact, he said it was as if the detectives recognized the evidence that suggested this was a defensive gun use and were happy to report it as such.

A man was shot at a QuikTrip gas station in Tulsa after he confronted his estranged wife with a firearm, according to the Tulsa Police Department. The incident took place near 11th and Sheridan around 7 p.m. on Monday night.
The confrontation began when the man approached his wife and her group of friends. Investigators reported that a friend of the wife, seeing the man armed, pulled a firearm and demanded that he step back and put his gun down. Instead of complying, the man pointed his gun at the friend, who then shot him twice in self-defense. |

Lawmakers approved the tax to fund a new Gun Violence Prevention and School Safety Fund aimed at supporting programs focused on prevention, education, research and more. But the gun-rights groups and individuals challenging the new tax said it violates the Constitution because it has no historically similar law and unfairly disfavors the Second Amendment as compared to other rights.

Gun owners in Louisiana can start enjoying additional freedoms on Independence Day, thanks to a new law allowing them to conceal carry without a permit.
The new law applies to all state residents who are at least 18 years old and do not have any restrictions preventing them from owning a gun due to previous felonies. Republican state Sen. Blake Miguez, who wrote the legislation for this law, explained that residents should be free to exercise their Second Amendment rights to protect themselves and their families and that criminals in the state should “fear the consequences of their actions.” |

New Orleans area lawmakers, including River Ridge Republican Sen. Kirk Talbot, whose family owns Lucky Dogs Inc., tried repeatedly to incorporate some exceptions in the new law for the French Quarter and other tourist-heavy areas, to no avail.
As a last resort, New Orleans officials came up with the idea of designating the Eighth District police station, located in the heart of the French Quarter on Royal Street, as a vocational-technical school for cops.
The new law prohibits concealed firearms within a 1,000-foot radius of schools. As applied to NOPD’s cop station-cum-vo-tech school, it would allow police to continue proactive confiscation of guns on large stretches of Bourbon, Royal and Chartres streets. |

A tragic incident at a Kentucky gun store led to the death of a beloved grandfather, Chad Wainscott, 50, after a customer negligently discharged a firearm. The Incident occurred on Saturday around 8:30 pm at Humphrey Double H Farms Enterprises Inc. in Carroll County.
According to Kentucky State Police, the customer was examining a firearm for sale and was manipulating it when a single round was discharged. Wainscott, who was inside the store at the time, was struck by the bullet. Despite efforts by other patrons and paramedics to save his life, Wainscott was pronounced dead at Carroll County Hospital. |

Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has said it won’t take cases challenging Illinois’ gun ban without final judgment from the appeals court, it’s back to the lower courts.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas declined to hear cases from Illinoisans suing over gun bans. The opposing sides of the debate see Tuesday’s outcome differently.

According to Newsweek, the Supreme Court declined to take up a case in Illinois reviewing whether their assault weapon ban is constitutional — but only because they want to wait and see how the lower courts resolve the issue. Thomas agreed with this — but made clear in his own writing that if he doesn't like how the court rules, he will push the court to review it.
He also left little doubt in his comments about how he would rule.
"The Seventh Circuit's decision illustrates why this Court must provide more guidance on which weapons the Second Amendment covers," wrote Thomas. |

Indiana Republican U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz has been charged with bringing a firearm through airport security, authorities said Monday.
Spartz, 45, was charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor under Virginia law, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said Monday.
A TSA spokesperson said officers detected an unloaded .380-caliber firearm in Spartz's carry-on during passenger security screening on Friday at Washington Dulles International Airport.
Her office said in a statement that Spartz mistakenly carried an unloaded handgun in the pocket of her suitcase while going through security on her way to a meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly in Europe. |

House Speaker Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) said his party’s supermajority has no appetite to take on any policy that limits firearms.
“Gun control laws simply just don't work, in my opinion,” Stephens said during a media gaggle last Tuesday. “Allowing the police to enforce the laws that are on the books is really the most important thing in keeping our community safe.”
But numerous GOP-backed gun bills didn’t see the floor either—including House Bill 51, a measure that would shield Ohioans from federal gun control policies by encouraging local law enforcement to not enforce any the state sees in violation of the Second Amendment. HB 51 hasn't moved in six months. |
