Page, Arizona police chief Wayne Wright was fired, and he believes it's a result of the fact that nearly everyone on his staff including police officers signed a petition to recall the Mayor.
A civic meeting after the firing was quite lively:
"Minutes earlier, McDaniels, Webber and a handful of other residents entered council chambers. McDaniels approached the council table and asked for information about the firing. Told by Slavens the item was not on the agenda and it could not be discussed, McDaniels said, "Are you afraid to talk to the citizens you work for?""
"McDaniels did not relent, and Slavens asked Lt. Chata Cabral to escort McDaniels out of the building. Just before leaving the room, McDaniels turned to the table and blurted, "Cowards." " |

"As America celebrates its first Independence Day since Sept. 11, a revolt is going on in left-wing city councils against the crackdown on terrorism. The revolt and the reaction to it raise fundamental questions about how much liberty Americans are willing to forgo to prevent further attacks."
"Though the public in general has supported the measures, the protests cast doubt on how patient and united Americans are in this time of war involving a real threat from a real enemy."
"The left has made most of the official noise about this issue. But NewsMax.com has also found division of opinion on the right." |

"But a little experiment like the one I performed this week is my own display of fervent patriotism."
"I drove to Doug's Shoot 'N Sports in Taylorsville. A gun store would not typically draw me. I do not own a gun. Charlton Heston is not my president and I am not insured by Smith & Wesson. But sure as shooting, I know one thing: I love the passion of gun owners and their absolute zeal in defending their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms." |

"Special Judge William Schmaedecke also lowered Philip D. McKenzie's bond from $100 million to $100,000. Mr. McKenzie was released Wednesday."
“A $100 million bond for a misdemeanor. We've got murderers in jail on much less bond,” Mr. McKenzie's attorney William Woods said before the arraignment. “This is absurd.”
"A pretrial conference in Mr. McKenzie's case was scheduled for Aug. 20." |

"Even on the Fourth of July, maybe especially on the Fourth of July, you don't expect a major political candidate's patriotism to be called into question."
"But that's definitely what seems to be going on in the race for Illinois governor with a pair of recent hits on Democratic nominee Rod Blagojevich."
"In the first instance, the intent is plain. In the second, it's a little more subtle, but you can judge for yourself."
"The initial volley came from the Illinois State Rifle Association, the local branch of the NRA."
"In a postcard mailed throughout the state last week, the gun owners group asks:"
"If this was July 4, 1776, which uniform would Rod Blagojevich wear? Minuteman ... or ... Redcoat?"
"Blagojevich denies that he is trying to take away the guns of law-abiding Americans..." -- revealing that he has the morals of a Clinton. Blagojevich has supported numerous gun BANS including outright handgun bans and bans of the .50 caliber rifle. |

This anti-individual right "study" is wroght with prohibitionist delusion, misread and misunderstood historical facts and more. One of its premises:
"The Second Amendment provides no protection for personal weapons use, including hunting, sporting, collecting, or even personal self-protection."
Amazingly, this shows up on TomPaine.com -- clearly, they picked the wrong domain name. And do note the linked articles, from beneath this one, where VPC's lying Tom Diaz's articles are promoted. |

LAHTI, Finland (AP) -- "Matthew Emmons of the United States came from behind and beat leader Espen Berg-Knutsen of Norway to win the world championship title in the rifle, prone position, from 50 meters Thursday."
"Berg-Knutsen led with 598 points out of 600 going into the final, but Emmons shot his last few rounds well, while Berg-Knutsen faded."
KABA NOTE: It's interesting to see NJ.com -- a New Jersey website -- promoting this victory. Chances are good that rifle champion could be arrested for possessing his gear in the state. |

"CIVIL liberties groups reacted with concern yesterday to government proposals requiring every UK resident to have a card proving their identity."
"They objected to the idea of ID cards in principle and voiced fears over infringement of privacy, warning that government officials would have access to vast amounts of information about individuals at the touch of a button."
"Entitlement cards, similar to those already issued to asylum seekers, would contain a computer chip capable of recording a photograph and fingerprints along with information on home addresses, date of birth, family members and serial numbers."

"The City Attorney's Office filed a weapons charge yesterday against the president of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, alleging that he brought a firearm onto school grounds."
"In a written statement to police, James Kelly admitted carrying a handgun when he attended an evening community meeting at Rainier Beach High School on May 29."
"Under state law, it is a misdemeanor to possess a firearm on school premises. If convicted, Kelly faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $5,000 fine. Kelly would also lose his concealed-weapons permit for three years."
According to CCRKBA, "Kelly, a leader in the African-American community, is a well-known advocate of extremist gun control measures, including this state's Gun Free School Zone law..." That statement came out as CCRKBA was pressing the city attorney's office to get off it's butt and deal with this elitist hypocrite. |

Not directly RKBA-related, but Big Brother continues to grow even on Independence Day, which shows how little this country thinks of liberty today.

"Grayson attorney Philip McKenzie called his arrest this week for carrying two concealed handguns into court a reason to file a civil rights lawsuit."
"Number one, I'm not guilty of any crime," McKenzie said following an arraignment Wednesday in Carter District Court. "And what has been done has been done politically, without a doubt."
"During the hearing, special judge William Schmaedecke reduced his bond from $100 million to $100,000 unsecured. McKenzie was released from custody after the hearing." [emphasis ours]
"McKenzie, 52, of Grayson was charged Monday with two counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon, both Class A misdemeanors, Sheriff Kevin McDavid said." |
