"Rarely do opposing sides on gun control see eye to eye on any aspect of it, but on this they agree: The 1994 ban on assault weapons didn't save America from the Columbine massacre or the D.C. snipers."
"Common ground ends there, though, with the result that came Sept. 13, the ban born of such horrific incidents as the Long Island Rail Road rampage may fade into extinction, a casualty of election-year politics." |

"Guns are used for different purposes in each area and each state. It is my opinion that instead of trying to ban guns altogether, the governments should take some time and put some thought into some restrictive policy toward the attainment of firearms. It would be impossible for the government to confiscate all the guns in the United States. Half of the country wouldn't stand for it." ...
"Today, guns that fire hundreds of rounds per second aren't very practical for public use, and if any guns should be outlawed for general use, those should be the ones." ...
"There is a child accidentally killed by a gun every four seconds, so what that says to me is that it is way too easy to get a gun." ...

"While Bush and his staffers have pledged multiple times to sign the bill into law if passed, GOP lawmakers are vowing that it will not be allowed on the House or Senate floor, thus protecting Bush from losing the support of the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA)." ...
"Speaking at a July 4 gun rights rally at Mace Sporting Goods in Mebane, Libertarian presidential candidate Michael Badnarik aimed a few short words at not just Feinstein, but Republicans, as well."
"That Feinstein would use parliamentary procedure to slip in yet another attempt to deprive us of one of our most fundamental individual rights is not surprising. The even scarier issue is that Bush has already promised, in advance, to sign such a bill."
"Clearly, when an issue as major as the Assault Weapons Ban is supported by Feinstein, Schumer, Bush and Warner, it is yet another indication that both of the major parties are, in fact, the same." |

"An intriguing phenomenon is at work right now in Canada and the United States, where political liberals are demonstrating a remarkable willingness to turn their backs on what once seemed an unshakable principle, simply in the interest of winning re-election and assuring their political survival."
"It appears these politicians have suddenly realized what a pity it would be for them to have to find real jobs, so in Canada and here in the states, they've decided that it is the smart thing to be against gun control."
"North of the border, Canadian Liberals, according to Reuters, are scrambling to avoid defeat in the June 28 election so Prime Minister Paul Martin is promising to modify that nation's gun registration law. His Liberal colleagues have discovered, the news agency said, that gun registration is a 'vote loser.' Martin told a Canadian newspaper he is willing to consider abolishing criminal penalties for citizens who refuse to register their firearms. How long that promise will hold water is anyone's guess."
"After all, if a Liberal is willing to turn his back on a principle, just how hard is it for a Liberal to break a promise?" |

Why is it that whenever the Firearms Control Act is under discussion, the most important sections, promoting nothing less than human rights abuses, are ignored?
Under-21s will not be able to defend their families.
One needs to prove "need" for a firearm to persuade the authorities to issue you with a licence. How on earth does one do this?
Searches and seizures may take place without a warrant, not only by the police, but by "a person authorised by the National Commissioner".
When charged with an offence, in terms of this law, you will be presumed guilty until proven innocent.
