New York Gov. Kathy Hochul last week signed legislation that supposedly complies with the Supreme Court's recent ruling against her state's restrictions on carrying guns in public. In New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, decided on June 23, the Court said New York's "proper cause" requirement for carry permits violated the Second Amendment. New York's law, the majority noted, gave local officials broad discretion to reject applications, transforming "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" into a privilege for the few. |

The multi-purpose tactical bullet (MPT) is almost always associated with America's Rifle: the AR-15. If you own one of these guns, it’s probably one of your most fired weapons and for good reason – it’s fun to shoot. Unloading a magazine at empty cans and bottles in the backyard or trying to beat your last score at the shooting range is a spectacular feeling when using one of these guns.
The MPT does just what the name implies. Its use is very broad and can be a “go to” ammo for just about anything, from plinking to hunting to stopping a horde of zombies.

Taurus made the shotgun pistol famous in 2006 when it introduced the Judge, a revolver chambered in .45 Long Colt and .410-bore. The .410 handgun enjoyed a brief surge in popularity and other gun manufactures quickly followed suit, introducing their own “hand cannons.” But the platform wasn’t a new concept. Pistols were designed with shotgun barrels long before Taurus debuted the Judge. Guns such as the Civil War-era Lemat, Ithaca’s Auto & Burglar, and the Leinad Cobray Derringer are just a few of the many wheelguns and break-actions that were designed to fire shotshells (the Lemat used a .63-caliber grapeshot, not a conventional shotshell from a lower barrel). |

For more than 70 years, Sturm, Ruger & Company has been one of America’s leading and responsible manufacturers of reliable firearms, with 40 product lines and 800 variations of quality guns. I know firsthand that they make excellent revolvers and pistols because I own several, and without any doubt, they are extremely reliable and well-made guns. I own the original 2009 design of the Lightweight Compact Revolver, the LCR, in .38 Special +P with no external hammer. |

On June 23, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down New York’s discretionary carry licensing regime as a violation of the Second Amendment right to bear arms in the NRA-backed case NYSRPA v. Bruen. The law at issue was the modern version New York’s Sullivan Law, which was enacted in 1911. Named for notorious Tammany Hall political boss “Big” Tim Sullivan, the law imbued bribery and favoritism into the licensing process and empowered those with racial, ethnic, or other prejudice to prevent those they disfavor from exercising their Second Amendment rights. |

The United States Supreme Court has defended and restored the bear half of the right to keep and bear arms, in the recent Bruen decision. Much work remains to be done. It is clear that the people have a right to bear arms outside the home. One of the major purposes is for the defense of self and others.

The Biden Administration is serious about making it more difficult for responsible citizens to exercise their gun rights, which is hardly surprising from the most anti-Second Amendment president in history. What is less obvious is the effect President Biden’s other policy decisions have had, directly or indirectly, on making communities less safe. |

Among a pack of seven bills signed into law on Tuesday were measures banning certain guns, barring firearm ownership without training, as well as increased tracking and registration mandates.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy this week signed his self-described "Gun Safety 3.0" package, so named because it is his third attempt to have his gun control proposals marched through the state legislature despite the one-party rule in the Garden State. The bills include ammunition registration, microstamping, a ban on gun ownership unless one can prove their past firearms training, a bill that could end the firearms industry, outlawing .50 BMG firearms for most, and other measures.

A few months ago, I did something I don’t normally do and bought a gun that I had never even test-fired. I picked up an M12AK semi-auto AK-style shotgun from JTS Group at a pretty ridiculously low price just to see if I could get it to actually run reliably. It seemed like a fun project for the money, and I started with very low expectations.
