... "Anti-gun cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Washington DC have demonstrated over and over again that your safety is irrelevant when compared to their political ideology. They continue to pass laws that furthers their agenda which includes a total disarmament of the people. And while pushing for the passage of such laws, they claim that their intent is to protect you from the very thugs that they allow to operate as a result of their failed ideology. In fact, they need criminals to shift the attention away from the fact that the laws are actually designed to protect politicians from law-abiding citizens." ... |

... "A few weeks ago I wrote that I thought it odd people hunted with handguns, which led me to meander to thoughts about gun control. I didn't call for a ban on weapons, but pointed out that the National Rifle Association in Arizona has successfully defeated efforts limiting the sale of rapid fire ammunition magazines and bills requiring child-safety locks. I suggested a lack of regulations, along with the proliferation of guns in the United States, might lead to more gun accidents and violent crime."
"Proving the NRA becomes apoplectic whenever even minor gun regulations are mentioned, the EXPLORER received a number of e-mails from out-of-state gun owners who'd heard of the column from Catalina Foothills readers. The column also was posted on a gun rights site (www.keepandbear-arms.com) and my name, journalistic ability, lack of decent haircut and intelligence were bandied about in an associated chat room." ... -------

"A ten-year review of national gun laws reveals that public access to federal shooting ranges has been preserved. A little-known law states that any rifle range built at least partially by federal money may be used by the military and the public. This covers, for example, the Sandra Day O'Connor courthouse range in Phoenix."
"Other features of the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) were abandoned, such as free .22 and .30 caliber ammunition for the public and youth groups. The rewrite of these laws are included in the completely updated 5th edition of 'Gun Laws of America,' to be released this month. Details are posted at gunlaws.com." ... |

"We know that US borders are porous, that major targets are largely undefended, and that the multicolor threat alert scheme known affectionately as 'the rainbow of doom' is a national joke. Anybody who has been paying attention probably suspects that if we rely on orders from above to protect us, we'll be in terrible shape. But in a networked era, we have increasing opportunities to help ourselves. This is the real source of homeland security: not authoritarian schemes of surveillance and punishment, but multichannel networks of advice, information, and mutual aid." -------

The governor is holding a ceremony today to sign a bill allowing judges to take guns from those accused of domestic violence. Supporters say the legislation will help protect victims of abuse. It allows judges to require that those named in permanent restraining orders surrender their guns.
Exceptions are made for those who have to carry guns for work, such as police officers and military personnel. But they can only carry the weapons while on duty.
Similar legislation has been proposed for years, but has failed to get through the General Assembly. This year, the bill included several compromises that helped win broader support. |
