Right now, manufacturers are selling guns as fast as they can make them, with many running their machines 24/7. While it may appear as if they are vanishing into thin air once they leave the factory, some lucky customers are actually finding what they want. Evidence indicates millions of these gun buyers are first-time owners.

North Carolina: Gov. Cooper Vetoes Bipartisan Second Amendment Preservation Act

On July 2nd, Governor Roy Cooper vetoed House Bill 652, the Second Amendment Preservation Act, despite it passing the General Assembly with bipartisan supermajorities. He erroneously claimed that the bill will allow guns in schools and threatens the safety of students and teachers. Instead, it only applies to churches that operate schools and simply allows parishioners to carry when the schools are not in session, if the church wishes to opt-in. Gov. Coopers veto shows that he cares little about personal safety or private property rights. HB 652 will now go back to the General Assembly, where they may consider a veto override.

Sometimes, a pro-Second Amendment lawmaker can introduce a piece of legislation where the idea makes sense, but the execution is a little off. What happens as a result is that a gain for the Second Amendment either does not happen, or it is not as big as it could be.

A large-capacity magazine meant any fixed or detachable magazine, box, drum, feed strip, or similar device capable of accepting, or that is designed to be readily converted to accept, more than fifteen rounds of ammunition.

Well, if there is one issue that transcends the blue state-red state divide, it's the protection of one's home and family. Ever since the coronavirus lockdowns, folks have been flocking to gun stores. It got another shot of adrenaline when the George Floyd riots erupted, and it was appallingly clear that the police could not protect law-abiding citizenry or local businesses. Minneapolis burned. New York City descended into mob rule for multiple nights, along with rampant looting, arson, and assault on police officers. In Seattle, armed leftists seized portions of the city. No wonder why June was a massive month for gun sales, 40 percent of which are estimated to be new gun owners.

The single-shot Springfield 1873 rifle was already obsolete when the Army issued it with a 33 barrel to the infantry and a 22 barrel to the cavalry. The .45-70-405 cartridge it used, however, had been exhaustively researched and was a marvelous new cartridge with superb performance. Unfortunately, it was housed in a troublesome, non-reloadable soft copper case until the Army switched to reloadable brass cases in 1882 and began manufacturing and issuing their own reloading kits in 1883.

It was Frederick Varss own experience with bipolar disorder and suicidal thoughts that first got him interested in the idea of letting people ban themselves from buying guns. To him, the idea of a voluntary do-not-sell list as a preemptive option for people worried about what they might do in darker moments of irrationality seemed like common sense. But would anyone use it?

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967.
