Recent days have seen an uptick in self-defense shootings involving burglaries or home invasions, leading to the inescapable conclusion that gun-buying over the past 15 months is not working out so well for people who break into other peoples’ homes.
Down in Orlando, Fla., the police were called to a home in the Lake Como neighborhood to find a man identified as David Havens, 53, who allegedly broke into a home while a teenage girl was there alone. The homeowner arrived in time to confront the suspect and a shot was fired. The suspect was wounded but it was not life-threatening. According to a published report, the homeowner will not face criminal charges. |

The .22 Long was introduced in 1871, and was expected to be a natural progression from the .22 CB to the .22 Short and beyond. To improve the performance of the .22 Short, the case was lengthened and the powder charge boosted, while retaining the 29 grain bullet of the .22 Short. It is currently the second oldest surviving rimfire cartridge on the market.

Everything came down to this shot. The felon was flanked on either side by hostages and there would only be the briefest of windows to make a single critical trigger pull. I knew the range down to the tenth of a yard and I was confident. The only problem was the wind. It was whipping with a vengeance, a physical force like an invisible hand — calm one moment then raging the next. Of course, trouble never comes calling on a calm, 72º day. |

Professional “fact checkers” at the Washington Post and elsewhere aren’t notable for their pro-gun bias. In the past, for example, these propagandists have condemned as incorrect claims that Hillary Clinton doesn’t believe in the right to keep a gun at home for self-defense, and that Joe Biden supports gun confiscation, while using the same framework of politically desirable reality to uphold bogus gun control talking points – for instance, Biden’s statements that no background checks are required for firearm purchases at gun shows, that gun manufacturers are the only entities “exempt from being sued,” and that the Clinton assault weapon ban law was effective.

Many Second Amendment supporters make one big strategic mistake: They fail to understand just how creative our enemies are. Whether it was big city mayors trying to use civil litigation to bludgeon gun manufacturers out of existence, Andrew Cuomo using financial regulations to cripple pro-Second Amendment activism, or even the increasing dehumanization that anti-Second Amendment extremists engage in, it seems we’re always caught by surprise and having to react to their latest scheme.

On June 7th, ATF published a new notice of proposed rulemaking on its website entitled Factoring Criteria for Firearms with Attached “Stabilizing Braces”. The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on June 10th, 2021, giving interested parties until September 8th, 2021 to file comments. The rule seems aimed at making nearly all configurations of firearms equipped with stabilizing braces subject to the taxation and registration requirements of the National Firearms Act. |

Although there is no shortage of semi-auto shotguns on the market these days, the new VRF14 from Rock Island is a bit different from the competition.
Shipping without a buttstock and fitted with a 14-inch barrel, the Rock Island VRF14 is not technically a shotgun but is sold as a 12-gauge "firearm" in much the same class as the Mossberg Shockwave series and Remington's discontinued TAC-14 and V3 TAC-13. |
