... "Because the work paid for by the Joyce Foundation followed the establishment media rule that guns are a blight on society, however, nobody made a peep about the obvious conflict of interest. Of course, the establishment media never follows the same rules in how they treat both sides of the gun issue."

"Half a year after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), the Obama administration is set to release a series of reforms to the current gun law, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Thursday."
"The reforms, which are being crafted by the Department of Justice, come after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Second Amendment debate. But in a nod to the difficulties of getting legislation through a Republican-run House of Representatives, only executive orders or administrative actions -- and not an actual bill -- are expected to be handed to Congress." ... -------

"Friday marks six months since the Tucson shooting which severely injured Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and the White House is now hinting it's prepared to add its own voice to the gun control dialogue that tragedy reignited.
"'As you know, the President directed the Attorney General to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common-sense measures that would improve Americans' safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights,' White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Thursday." ... -------

... "Guns won the revolution. Guns won the West. Guns also assassinated four U.S. presidents. Just a gun rights advocates have data to back up their claim that armed Americans make the country safer, gun control advocates have data that they make the country more dangerous." ... -------
Submitter's Note: The problem with the antis' "data" is, they lie! Click on the link in the article and the first "datum" you'll see is "5 children were killed every day in gun related accidents and suicides committed with a firearm, from 1994-1998". Yet to get that number you have to include "children" up to age nineteen!. And if you look at the data from, say this century (2001-2007), even with the same ludicrous age limit the average drops to 2.65 per day. |

I find it interesting that while many of these same people wear seatbelts all the time, understanding that they can't know exactly when they might be involved in a collision, they aren't planning to apply this same strategy when it comes to carrying their concealed firearm. "'Why would ATF walk guns to Honduras?' asks a reader. That's easy."
"First, and this is important to understand: the Tampa operation proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that 'Project Gunwalker' was a national strategy, not a Phoenix aberration. The 'major media' has been slow to understand this. They have ignored the fact that the Houston Field Division had to have played a supervisory role in known straw buying incidents in Dallas and Columbus NM as they are in their area of operations, not Phoenix's. Original reporting on this subject from Texas has been pitiful."

As recently as 2004, MSNBC sent reporters to the streets to be sure up and coming generations had not forgotten what Nixon had done. "... The House Judiciary Committee acted on the [Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act] today, voting on party lines to send it to the floor for full consideration by the House. But an amendment offered by Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) to exempt claims based 'on the Constitution' from the tougher sanctions won unanimous approval. The amendment would ensure that civil rights claims, such as those brought to protect religious liberty under the First Amendment, gun rights under the Second Amendment, or equal protection claims under the 14th Amendment, can pursued without fear of tougher sanctions. In my earlier posts, I expressed concern over LARA's impact on litigation brought by social conservatives, so the amendment should ameliorate those concerns." ... |

"The federal judiciary is slowly coming to the realization that the Second Amendment actually means the public can have guns. Thats not sitting well with local politicians in Chicago and Washington who are determined to keep the public disarmed. ... "The plaintiffs here challenge the City Council's treatment of firing ranges. The Ordinance mandates one hour of range training as a prerequisite to lawful gun ownership ... yet at the same time prohibits all firing ranges in the city ... The plaintiffs contend that the Second Amendment protects the right to maintain proficiency in firearm useincluding the right to practice marks-manship at a rangeand the City's total ban on firing ranges is unconstitutional. They add that the Ordinance severely burdens the core Second Amendment right to possess firearms for self-defense because it conditions possession on range training but simultaneously forbids range training everywhere in the city. ..." ... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)] |
