"The Second Amendment Foundation has named Andrew Gottlieb as its new director of Outreach and Development, representing the second generation of family activism in promoting and defending the right to keep and bear arms."

"Gottlieb is the son of SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb and Julianne Versnell Gottlieb. A recent graduate of Arizona State University, he has been living in Phoenix, where he served as a Ronald Reagan Fellow intern at the famous Goldwater Institute. He has also represented SAF at the Conservative Political Action Conference, and he has previously interned at the SAF headquarters." ...

... "Way to go, Mister President: Instead of using your voice as America’s leader to present our nation in the best possible light, tell nations around the world that they’re all So Much Better Than We Are. Look at the warped behavior of one disturbed young man, and use your bully pulpit to criticize the majority of American citizens who obey the laws, and the majority of gun owners who never fire a weapon unlawfully."

"Critics of the President’s policy are justifiably concerned that if he were successful in forcing people to give up their guns, it would be law-abiding citizens who would lose the protections guaranteed them by the Second Amendment. ..." ...

"What is the purpose of the Second Amendment?"

"It is ironic that some people seem to think the reason for the Second Amendment is to support our government in time of need. It is the exact opposite."

"Thomas Jefferson, well known for his influence on the U.S. Constitution, has said, 'The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government' (Thomas Jefferson Papers, page 334)." ...

"A gun rights activist was openly carrying a handgun outside the St. Louis Zoo earlier this month in protest of the zoo’s policy banning firearms when he was suddenly accosted by a stranger. The man, who goes by Rich Johnson on YouTube, repeatedly berated the pro-gun advocate and called him names while warning him that his 'open carry s***t' would soon come to an end."

"In the face of what some YouTube commenters described as 'harassment,' the open carry activist calmly responded to the man’s verbal attacks and tried to explain his view on the Second Amendment and open carry — not that it helped the men find common ground." ...

"Whataburger has waded into the gun rights debate this month, by announcing that its restaurant locations will continue to prohibit the open carrying of firearms."

"In a letter, the company's CEO, attempts to reassure gun owners that their right to carry a concealed weapon will remain intact. "Background checks for gun sales spiked 11% in June compared to last year, making it the busiest June ever, according to the FBI's background check data."

"Last month the FBI conducted nearly 1.53 million background checks, which are required for all in-store purchases, but not for sales at gun shows or between individuals. That's the highest volume of checks in June since 1999, when the FBI started keeping track."

"Gun background checks have climbed annually since 2003 with the exception of just three years, one of which was 2014, indicating a clear jump in gun sales." ...

"The victims of racial hatred in South Carolina were buried while the national debate over gun violence continued. And their grieving relatives are left to wonder why our society can’t end this madness. Sadly, our society is pathologically fascinated with guns and indifferent to the NRA’s ability to dictate national gun policy because of its control over Congress."

"The NRA and their congressional sycophants are just as responsible for this slaughter as the lunatic who actually pulled the trigger. And they won’t hesitate to sacrifice other innocent churchgoers, government officials, police officers and even children to gun violence while wrapping themselves in their twisted interpretation of the Second Amendment." ...

"The death this week of a 3-year-old boy after what appeared to be an accidental shooting at his grandparents' house in Spring brings to mind a recent article in The Washington Post about guns in Japan, a nation with some of the tightest gun-control laws in the world and, not coincidentally, one of the lowest rates of gun deaths in the world (12 last year, 10 of them tied to crime syndicates)."

"'Gun violence is very expensive,' Burgess said, noting that the direct medical costs of treating 253 gunshot victims at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center last year surpassed $17 million, with taxpayers covering more than $12 million of that. 'It’s time for the gun industry to help defray those costs and this is a very reasonable way to do it.'" ...

Submitter's Note: Well, ignoring the fact that the freedom to own and carry the weapon of your choice is a natural, fundamental, and inalienable human, individual, civil and Constitutional right -- subject neither to the democratic process nor to arguments grounded in social utility, according to the U.S. DoT, in 2014 the Economic Value of a Statistical Life (VSL) was $9.2 million. So if DGUs in Seattle save an average of just 1.5 lives annually "gun violence" saves the city more than it costs. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Timmy boy.
